Nadal faces upset defeat at Queen”s Tennis
LONDON: The world tennis number one Rafael Nadal has had his long winning run halted by fellow Spaniard Feliciano Lopez at the Queen”s Club tournament in London, while home favourite and defending champion Andy Murray also departed.
Nadal lost 7-6 6-4 in the quarter-finals of the key Wimbledon warm-up tournament – his first defeat since losing to Andy Roddick in Miami on April 2nd, a 24-match unbeaten sequence which included a fifth French Open last week.
Lopez will face Mardy Fish in the semi-finals, after the unseeded American beat the third-seeded Brit Murray 6-4 1-6 7-6 in a third round match carried over from the previous day.
Fish then beat France”s Michael Llodra in straight sets.
Another American also reached the last four with Sam Querrey joining Fish after a 6-3 7-5 win over Belgium”s Xavier Malisse.
