It has been noticed time and again that producers refrain from releasing their movies during the holy month of Ramzan. The reason being, a big chunk of movie-going audience abstain from watching movies during this month, which in turn makes a big dent at the box-office.

That explains why major film-makers either release their films before the holy month of Ramzan or during Eid festivities.

This year, the holy month of Ramzan will begin on the sunset of Sunday, 31 July and will continue for 30 days until Tuesday, 30 August. Surprisingly, Prakash Jha has decided to release AARAKSHAN during Ramzan this year – on 12 August. Not only Jha, even Y-Films, the youth film studio of Yash Raj Films, will release their film MUJHSE FRAAANDSHIP KAROGE on the same date 12 August.

Isn’t Jha making a mistake by releasing his multi-starrer AARAKSHAN during Ramzan? “See, it’s a long weekend – a 4-day weekend – since 15 August is a national holiday. Besides, AARAKSHAN gets a clear run of 2 weeks till BODYGUARD arrives on Eid 31 August, so why should I miss out on this period? The release schedule is packed with multiple films every single week and this seems to be the most appropriate period, in my opinion,” Jha reasons.

7e57fb9c20islam At Ramzan Dinner Obama Speach On IslamWASHINGTON : US President Barack Obama on Tuesday praised Islam as an integral part of America, as he feted prominent US Muslims at an Iftar dinner marking the holy fasting month of Ramzan.

“For well over a billion Muslims, Ramadan is a time of intense devotion and reflection,” Obama said, in remarks welcoming his guests in the State Dining Room of the White House.

“Tonight’s Iftar is a ritual that is being carried out this Ramzan at kitchen tables and mosques in all 50 states,” Obama said.

“Islam as we know is part of America. Like the broader American citizenry, the American Muslim community is one of extraordinary dynamism and diversity.

“On this occasion, we celebrate the holy month of Ramzan and we also celebrate how much Muslims have enriched America and its culture in ways both large and small,” the president said.

Among the guests Obama praised was Bilqis Abdul-Qaadir, a first-year student at the University of Memphis who scored more points than any other girl or boy in the history of high school basketball in the state of Massachusetts.

“She recently told a reporter, ‘I would like to inspire a lot of young Muslim girls if they want to play basketball. Anything is possible, they can do it too,’” said Obama, who has a well-known love of the sport.

“Bilquis is an inspiration not simply to Muslim girls, she is an inspiration to all of us.”

The president also recognized the first two Muslim lawmakers in the US Congress, Keith Ellison and Andre Carson.

In a message marking Ramzan last week, Obama pledged “concrete actions” to renew ties with Islamic countries, less than three months after his historic address to the Muslim world in Cairo.

“I want to reiterate my commitment to a new beginning between America and Muslims around the world,” Obama said in a video address posted as the world’s estimated 1.5 billion Muslims prepared for a month of fasting and reflection.

The president, who has Muslim heritage on his father’s side of his family, also pledged “unyielding” support for a two-state solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, and to “responsibly end the war in Iraq.”

Islam’s fasting month began last month in most of the Arab world and Iran.

Medical colleges and self-finance scheme in Punjab, Pakistan.

Lahore, Pakistan: A spokesman of Health Department Punjab has said that admission in the medical colleges under self-finance scheme was a blatant violation of merit and nobody will be allowed to usurp the rights of talented and hard-working students besides fees of those who had got admission under this scheme will not be waived.

The spokesman further said that waiving of fees of those male and female students who got admission under self finance scheme will be injustice and discrimination to those 6000 students who could not come on open merit despite obtaining more marks compared to the last student seeking admission under self finance scheme and failed to take admission due to financial constraints.

The spokesman said that on the instructions of Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, the government while reviewing in detail the self finance scheme abolished it in 2008 by declaring it against merit. However, under this scheme the students already studying had been allowed to continue their education on the old terms and conditions. He further said that the students who were unable to take admission in medical colleges on open merit had been admitted under self finance scheme launched by the previous government and they were able to pay their fees therefore no hue and cry on behalf of parents of such students is acceptable.

The spokesman said that students who got admission under self finance scheme and their parents were fully aware of educational expenditures and such students had got admission after careful thinking so the previous terms and conditions will be applicable to such students and they are bound to fulfill the terms and conditions of scheme and no concession will be given to them in this regard.
