Gaddafi delivers audio message

Libyan rebels in hot pursuit of fugitive despot Col. Moammar Gaddafi claimed to have surrounded his hideout in a Tripoli residential compound but there was no independent confirmation he was actually inside.

At the same time, the man who commanded Libya for nearly 42 years took to the airwaves to deliver an audio message calling on Libyans to “resist these enemy rats” and urging them to “leave your homes and liberate Tripoli.”

However, it was not known when Gaddafi made the recording – his third broadcast since rebels seized his massive home compound Tuesday. He has not been seen in public for weeks.

With a bounty of $1.7 million on his head, and the rebels determined to flush him out and declare a final victory in their six-month uprising, Gaddafi has become, at least temporarily, the world s most wanted fugitive.

A rebel spokesman said Gaddafi was hiding inside a Tripoli apartment building along with an unspecified number of his sons.

The apartment block was near Gaddafi s compound and a “massive” firefight was underway, with heavy resistance coming from the building, however the Pentagon was unable to confirm the rebel claim that Gaddafi was surrounded.

In Washington, a US official said that the CIA was “collecting intelligence about the situation on the ground. The US government, NATO and other foreign partners will continue to gather information to assist the Libyan people with critical security priorities.”

But Pentagon spokesman Col. Dave Lapan stressed the US was “not involved in a manhunt.”

Meyer 911 call

Meyer 911 call latest updates :- Florida coach Urban Meyer complained of chest pain and said his side was tingling before he was hospitalized after the SEC championship game earlier this month, according to a 911 recording.

Meyer’s wife told an Alachua County dispatcher that her 45-year-old husband had a pulse but wasn’t talking when she contacted emergency officials at 4:27 a.m. on Dec. 6, hours after the Gators returned home from their 32-13 loss to Alabama.

“My husband’s having chest pains,” Shelley Meyer said. “He’s having chest pains, he just woke up in the middle of the night and said he’s having chest pains.”

Shelley Meyer said her husband had taken a sleeping pill that night and had suffered chest pains before. She repeatedly tried to rouse Meyer, who was lying on his stomach on the floor.

“Urban, Urban, talk to me,” she says.

The Gainesville Sun posted an audio recording and incident detail report of the call on its Web site late Wednesday. Shelley Meyer’s name wasn’t included on the recording, but the female caller identifies herself as Meyer’s wife.

Initial reports indicated that the Florida coach checked into a Gainesville hospital, where he was treated for dehydration and released. Shelley Meyer told dispatchers that her husband was breathing and appeared to be grunting.

“He almost sounds like he’s kind of trying to cry,” she said.

Meyer abruptly resigned last Saturday citing health problems, then decided he would instead take an indefinite leave of absence. He plans to coach the fifth-ranked Gators in the Sugar Bowl against No. 4 Cincinnati on Friday.

Meyer said during a news conference Sunday that he might need a procedure to alleviate chest pains that started four years ago, but would not say if he had a heart condition. He insisted he didn’t have a heart attack and refused to say whether doctors told him to step away.

“I’d rather not get into that,” Meyer said.

Meyer acknowledged that part of the problem is his tireless work ethic and his need to put the weight of the program solely on his shoulders. When asked whether he plans to be back on the sideline next season, Meyer said, “I do in my gut believe that will happen.”

Prancer Movie, This year marks the 20th anniversary of the first in a long series of Christmas stories. On Christmas Eve 1989, I decided that instead of a brief homily at the Christmas Eve candle service was going to write a story. The idea came when we took our daughter and a friend to see the movie Prancer. One line I jumped on the baby Jesus from nativity school was lost. I thought, “A Lost Jesus” and a story began.

Come Christmas Eve of that year I took a stool in the center of the chapel, while the congregation looked at me as if I had lost my mind. She gave me some brief introduction about this being my Christmas present to them, sat down and told the story. I skipped the next year and then wrote another in 1991 – and did not stop. It became a Christmas tradition. Even members not mentioned it to me recently, while returning from a funeral.

Michael Jackson to Get Lifetime Achievement Grammy

LOS ANGELES : Michael Jackson to Get Lifetime Achievement Grammy, Singer Michael Jackson next month will receive a posthumous Grammy for lifetime achievement, along with six other artists, organizers of the music industry’s top awards said.

The others honored with the annual award are Canadian singer Leonard Cohen, blues musician David “Honeyboy” Edwards, country star Loretta Lynn, pianist Andre Previn, fluegelhorn player Clark Terry and the late singer Bobby Darin.

Over the years, Jackson won 13 Grammys and scored 17 No. 1 singles in the United States, and his 1982 “Thriller” is the highest-selling album of all time.

The Recording Academy, the organization behind the Grammys, will honor the lifetime achievement winners at an invitation-only event on Jan. 30, the day before the Grammy Awards are handed out in Los Angeles.

Past winners of the lifetime achievement award include Frank Sinatra, Smokey Robinson, B.B. King and Bob Dylan.

Jackson died at age 50 in June, from an overdose of powerful medications. His death is still the subject of a criminal investigation.

Separately, the Recording Academy said on Friday that “The Climb,” by 17 year-old Disney star Miley Cyrus, has been withdrawn from the Grammy category of Best Song Written for Motion Picture, Television Or Other Visual Media.

The academy said Walt Disney Records informed them that “The Climb,” written by Jessi Alexander and Jon Mabe, was not written specifically for Cyrus’ star vehicle “Hannah Montana: The Movie,” as the academy had previously thought.

The Climb” was replaced with “All is Love,” a song from this year’s movie “Where the Wild Things Are” that was written by Karen O and Nick Zinner of the band Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
