ISLAMABAD: The Economic Coordination Committee on Friday rejected the suggestion of increase in wheat support price while the relief package for the formers of flood-hit areas was approved.
It was suggested during the ECC meeting to increase the support price from Rs 950 to Rs 1,000 per 40 kilograms but the committee rejected it.
The ECC approved the relief package to the formers and, according to the package; the formers would be given loans on easy conditions.
The former with 25 acres land would be given cash to purchase fertilizer and seed while the formers with more than 25 acres land would be given loans with eight percent markup. Trend Pk

Desperate affectees protest near Lake
HUNZA: The landslide-spawned Lake in Ata Abad area of Hunza is persistently rising, leaving the gap between the Lake and the spillway narrowed to only six feet, Geo News reported Saturday.
Meantime, the affected people here have turned all in protest against no announcement by the Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani for immediate relief package and are currently staging a sit-in near the Lake, exposing their lives to an imminent danger of massive disaster.
Gilani vows relief package for Gilgit-Baltistan
Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani Friday said that a relief package would soon be announced for the Hunza affectees, and added that the spillway strategy would be successful to help rescue the people of the area.
After inaugurating Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Lungar at Hunza Relief Camp, the PM said that the Federal government would extend all-out support to the locals in this hour of need. He said that the Lungar would stay till complete rehabilitation of the affectees. He added that health insurance and electricity bills would also be included in the Benazir Income Support Programme.
He said the likely loss is being assessed, adding that Shahrae Korakurum would be renovated soon. He said Gilgit-Baltistan funds have been delayed due to prevailing situation in the country.
