Jhang: Village school gets building after TrendPK report

JHANG: The Jhang Health Department has provided a building to Government MC Primary School at Rasoolabad Village, TrendPK reported on Tuesday.

On February 3, TrendPK had aired a report about the poor condition of the primary school. In the report, the students were seen studying near a rail track in severe cold condition.

There was no building for this school, having enrollment of 60 students.

However, taking notice of the report, the Health Department arranged a building for the school, leaving teachers and students jubilated.

Hours long power cuts from today: KESC

KARACHI: Given the pretext of shortage of natural gas, Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) has announced to observe 10-hour long power outages in Karachi from today, TrendPK reported Sunday.

Meanwhile, Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has dismissed KESC’s excuse of suspension of gas supply from the former.

KESC’s spokesperson Ghafran Ata, talking to TrendPK, said SSGC has forcefully shut down valves of the main pipeline used for gas supply to KESC, adding that the former is posing threats to cut complete gas supply to KESC.

However, SSGC spokesman Inayat Ismail, rebuffing the allegations, has said that KESC has commenced a vicious campaign aiming at tarnishing SSGC’s market reputation.

Being wary of complete blackout in Karachi in case of persistence of the issue, KESC’s representative said the company always becomes the prime target whenever there is decline in gas pressure.

Inayat Ismail of SSGC said despite the fact that KESC has to pay off outstanding dues worth 28 billion rupees even then his company is providing KESC gas on regular basis.

Ghafran Ata of KESC said that Sindh High Court (SHC) ordered SSGC to provide KESC with 276 million cusec feet natural gas a day but the order has yet to be obeyed.

SSGC said that the entire energy sector is reeling financial crisis therefore if there is low gas supply for SSGC, so it will result the same for other companies. TrendPK

Rangers, police apprehend over 150 suspects in Karachi

KARACHI: Rangers and police conducted raids at offices of political and religious parties and other suspected areas in Karachi on Sunday, arresting more than 150 suspects.

Police say modern weapons were recovered from an office of a political party.

Rangers launched door-to-door search operation in Khada Market, Nayaabad, Daryaabad, Sango Lane and nearby areas.

Rangers’ commandoes also took part in the operation. More than 50 suspects were picked up in raids.

According to rangers sources, weapons were also recovered from the action.

Meanwhile, dozens of people held a protest against the operation in Lee Market and blocked traffic by erecting barricades. TrendPK

Pir Mazhar confirms Altaf meeting, refuses to share details

KARACHI: Senior Sindh minister Pir Mazhar ul Haq has confirmed his meeting with MQM chief Altaf Hussain in London along with former Home Minister Zulfiqar Mirza. But he refused to share its details.

Interacting with journalists at Quaid’s mausoleum today, he said it will be unfair to share the details of his informal meeting with Altaf Hussain.

“I have long been meeting with Altaf Hussain since 1989,” he said.

The provincial minister urged the need to work with unity in line with the vision of Quaid-e-Azam.

Responding to a question about Zulfiqar Mirza, he said in Sindh one who feels nobody will believe him hold holy Quran. TrendPK

Taseer abduction: Servant’s finger prints found from car

LAHORE: Important development was achieved in Shahbaz Taseer kidnapping case through finger prints.

Police sources said the finger prints garnered from the vehicle, belonged to Shahbaz Taseer’s servant.

According to sources, police are making progress in the light of finger prints reports; however,  police said it could not be said for sure that Taseer’s servant whose finger prints had been found was involved in the abduction or not.

It should be mentioned here that some unidentified miscreants abducted Shahbaz Taseer, son of former Punjab Governor Salman Taseer on Friday while he was on his way to office. TrendPK

Man involved in Quetta Express attack, arrested

QUETTA: Frontier Corps Balochistan arrested a man accused of attack on Quetta Express, TrendPK reported Monday.

The FC officials were quite sure that they would soon arrest the other accused involved in the attack on the train.

According to the FC spokesman, a man allegedly involved in the attack on Quetta Express near Mach yesterday, had been arrested. A motorcycle used in the attack was also recovered from his custody.

It should be mentioned here that Quetta Express left three people dead and 18 others sustained injuries. TrendPK

PPP activists protest against Taseer’s abduction

LAHORE: Following the anger of the leaders of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) over alleged negligence rendered by Punjab government in connection with kidnapping of Shahbaz Taseer, the son of former Punjab governor Salman Taseer, the PPP’s activists staged protest in Lahore, TrendPK reported Friday night.

According to details, political workers, hailing from PPP Lahore chapter, took to street and staged demonstration outside provincial assembly building against inefficiency of Punjab government over rendering negligence which led to likelihood of kidnapping of Taseer junior.

Agitators raised slogans against Shahbaz Sharif government, calling for immediate recovery of Shahbaz Taseer.

On the occasion, talking to media, provincial party leader Samiullah said none can anticipate any good from Punjab government, adding that instead of advising Sindh government, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif should ensure security of people dwelling in Lahore. TrendPK

Libya state TV says NATO helicopter shot down

CAIRO: Libyan forces shot down a NATO helicopter in the sea off the coast of the town of Zlitan on Friday, Libyan state television said.

It quoted a military spokesman as saying it was the third aircraft to be shot down by Libyan forces since NATO began air strikes on Libya in March. There was no independent confirmation of the report. AGENCIES
