Sanaullah plays prank on Taseer
An interesting situation is witnessed on Wednesday when Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah expressed concern over the disappearance of Governor Taseer, who was later found in Sukkur.
When contacted, Governor Punjab Salman Taseer told News Trends via phone that he is in Sukkur to attend his friends marriage and would reach Karachi by evening today.
Earlier, while talking to media outside the Punjab Assembly, Rana hinted at filing a reference against the Governor, who, he said, had gone to abroad sans intimation. If we dont get any information regarding his whereabouts, the Speaker Punjab would be asked to take over as acting Governor,a seemingly concerned Sanaullah told the reporters. He also directed the IG Punjab to search out the Governor at the earliest.
CMs alleged indifference made many to hold demo in Lahore
Problems-ridden families belonging to different cities held a protest demonstration in front of the Chief Minister House at Lahore against indifference on part of the latter to address their grievances, while police managed to foil a bid of a family of self-immolation, Dunya News reported on Friday.
Ironically, while the CM was busy chairing a meeting to review law and order situation in the province at CM house, an affected family, resident of Och Sharif, was trying to self-immolate themselves for not being allowed to meet the CM. The police, however, managed to stop their bid to burn themselves. Rajab told the reporters that his brothers have occupied his land and he be allowed to meet the CM for redressal of his problems. While another family said that their daughter has been assaulted by some influential of Hanjarwal and the police are assisting the culprits. Another woman among the protesters said that she belonged to Muzaffargarh and her ex-husband occupied her land.
Talks with India impossible sans Kashmir, Siachen: Qureshi
Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said that talks with India is impossible sans Kashmir, Siachen and water issues, while his Indian counterpart SM Krishna remarked that both the neighbouring countries are not left with any other option than dialogue.
Talking to media in New York, Qureshi said that talks between India and Pakistan should be ‘result-oriented, meaningful and substantive for the sake peace and stability’. Referring to Kashmir issue, the FM stated, ‘How can Pakistan talk to India without these subjects being on the table,’ Qureshi said pointing to disputes over Kashmir, Siachen and water. The need of the hour was for the Indian government to change ‘tactics’ in dealing with the Kashmiris, he said. ‘It is necessary because India and Pakistan are close neighbours. And there are number of outstanding issues. It’s in the interest of our people and our future to tackle these issues and to have an intelligent dialogue on these issues,’ she said. Qureshi told the reporters that a meeting with Krishna was possible before he left New York, if the Indian side agreed to fresh proposals submitted by Islamabad. If he got a positive response from the Indian side ‘we can meet anytime before I leave for Pakistan,’ he said. But talks between India and Pakistan should be ‘result-oriented, meaningful and substantive for the sake peace and stability’.
Nawaz slams Zardari’s foreign trip during floods
LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-N Chief Nawaz Sharif Saturday, referring to the President’s ongoing visit to the UK, said the national resources should have been directed towards helping the flood-stricken people instead of wasting the same on foreign tours.
Talking to media men after visiting a flood relief camp set up here at a workers welfare school, Nawaz Sharif appealed President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani to stand by the victims of flood in their time of trial.
Lashing out at President Asif Ali Zardari for his ongoing UK trip, the PML-N Chief said the prevailing harsh circumstances necessitated President’s staying back at home with the people of Pakistan and not leaving them in lurch by proceeding on a foreign tour.
“I have asked Shahbaz Sharif to stay in Muzaffargarh until each and every flood affected person gets relief there,” he told the reporters.
Faisal Shahzad’s links traced to SWA: Rehman
ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Rehman Malik Wednesday revealed that Faisal Shahzad, presently by the US for carrying out a failed bid to blow a fireball in Times Square on May 1, had links in South Waziristan.
Talking to media men here, Rehman Malik said investigations into Faisal Shahzad case are presently underway. However, he added, that no one has so far been arrested.
“Faisal Shahzad had links in South Waziristan and his accounts are in focus for investigation,” the Interior Minister told the reporters.
He said the government honors the decision of the Supreme Court regarding Hafiz Saeed and urged the Indian authorities to accord similar respect to the verdicts of Pakistani courts. “We had also honored the Indian courts’ decision against Ajmal Kasab,” he said.
Rehman called for a joint struggle against terrorism by Pakistan, India and Afghanistan.
Pentagon bans four reporters from Guantanamo trials

WASHINGTON: The Pentagon has banned four journalists from covering trials at Guantanamo after they published the name of an interrogator testifying at a hearing.
The Pentagon said Thursday reporters from the Miami Herald and three Canadian news organizations, the Toronto Star, The Globe and Mail and CanWest news service, had violated a request from the military judge to keep the identity of the witness secret.
“As a result of these violations, these individual reporters are barred from returning to cover future Military Commissions proceedings,” Colonel Dave Lapan wrote in an email to the reporters” editors.
“Your news organizations may continue to cover the proceedings with other reporters,” he said.
But if those journalists failed to abide by the Pentagon”s rules, the news organizations could be banned entirely from the proceedings, the email said.
Reporters who attend the Guantanamo military commissions must agree to “ground rules” issued by the Defense Department, prohibiting the release of information deemed secret by the court or Pentagon public affairs officials.

Qureshi Asks US To Address Pakistan’s Security Concerns
Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Thursday called upon the US to address Pakistan’s security concerns to boost trust and long-term ties.
Qureshi suggested that the foreign ministers of both the countries should meet once a year.
He also urged the US to address Pakistan’s security concern as it need of the hour.
He told the reporters that he would head the delegation to the US for Strategic Dialogue with the latter, and added that strategic ties, Afghanistan and regional security would be taken up during the meeting.
Drones Are Attacking Pakistan’s Sovereignty: Fazalur Rehman
Pakistan News: JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazalur Rehman has termed the drone strikes as attack on Pakistan’s sovereignty.
Talking to media in Lahore, Fazal said that Musharraf took the decision to be part of war on terror on his own, adding that no institution backed him. Fazal said that Pakistan needed internal stability, urging all the political parties to be united to boost democracy in the country. “Pakistan is not an ally in global war on terror. We are just tools for furthering the agendas of international powers”, Fazal deplored.
