MQM walks out of NA against fuel price hike

National Assembly witnessed another happening day on Tuesday with MQM staged walkout against the rise in PoL prices.
A furious Sherry Rehman asked the Speaker that who sent baton-totting rogues to her house while PML-Ns Hanif Abbasi proposed mid-term polls only panacea to all the crises facing the country. Sherry said that she has never been issued any show cause by the party, adding that she has never violated the party discipline.
The session has been prorogued till 10:00am tomorrow.

Arab Christians face political Islam threat-official says

VATICAN CITY: The rise of political Islam in the Middle East poses a threat to Christians in the Arab world and must be faced down together, a senior Roman Catholic official told a synod of Catholic bishops on Monday.

At the two week meeting to debate how to protect minority communities in the region and encourage harmony with Muslims, the Catholic Coptic Patriarch of Alexandria, Antonios Naguib, also said that attacks against Christians were on the rise due to growing fundamentalism in the region.

“Since 1970, we have witnessed the rise of political Islam in the region, consisting of many different religious currents, which has affected Christians, especially in the Arab world,” said Naguib. “This phenomenon seeks to impose the Islamic way of life on all citizens, at times using violent methods, thus becoming a threat which we must face together.”

Sugar, Gurr prices on rise in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: The price of sugar has been witnessing steady rise in the open market of Peshawar while the rate of Gurr has also increased by Rs5 over the past one month.

According to market sources, sugar price has surged by Rs9 per kilogram in the city to Rs68 from Rs59. The rate of Gurr has also climbed from Rs65 to Rs70 per kg, showing a rise of Rs5 over the past one month.

The price of Gurr may witness further rise in the coming days, source said.

LPG prices increase by Rs3 per kg

LAHORE: The price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) has been increased by Rs 3 per kilogram on Thursday, LPG distribution association announced Thursday.

This was the second time increase in a week.

According to the association, the price of domestic cylinder has been increased by Rs 30 while the rise in commercial cylinder price was Rs 120.

In Lahore, per kilogramme price stands between Rs 78-81, in Karachi Rs 75-78, in Peshawar, Gilgit, Fata, Murree and Islamabad Rs 82-85.

The price was last increased on June 4.
