Amir Khan celebrates engagement to Fayal

The ceremony was held at the weekend with a £150,000 bash at the Rebook Stadium in his hometown of Bolton.

Amir presented his fiancée with a stunning three diamond ring, believed to have cost £100,000, during the special ceremony, with the New York born beauty presenting her husband-to-be with an equally impressive platinum band.

25-year-old Amir announced his plans to marry 20-year-old Faryal earlier this month, with the couple officially marking their engagement with a lavish celebration over the weekend. 1,000 guests joined the couple to celebrate their happy news, amongst them were many famous faces from the world of sport including Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand and Ricky Hatton.

Faryal flew over from New York especially for the engagement party, with her family also travelling with her. The student will spend the next week with her fiancé in Bolton as he plans to show Faryal around what will become her new home as the couple have decided to start married life in the north of England.

The newly engaged couple were given a BMW 750 Li as an engagement present from the bride-to-be’s parents who have reportedly taken to the lightweight boxer in a big way, with student Faryal saying her family already treat Amir like a son.

For Amir and his new fiancée Faryal, their romance got off to quite a rocky start as the bride-to-be revealed she had difficulty understanding Amir’s strong northern accent and vocabulary, with the boxer using unfamiliar words such as “daft” and “innit”, when they first started dating.

 

However the pair managed to overcome early stumbling blocks and are now looking forward to their wedding which is likely to take place at the Reebok Stadium in Bolton, the same venue which hosted their engagement party.

Rahmans first music video for film

Normally A R Rahman shies away from promotional music videos. In what seems to be another first in this composing genius’ distinguished career, Rahman will appear in a promotional video for the film Ekk Dewaana Tha, singing a track Kya Hai Mohabbat‘.

Ironically Rahman, known to delay projects due to his global commitments, has this time done the needful. He has shot for the track for director Gautham Menon.

Now the director is unsure of how to use Rahman’s presence. So for change the delay is from the other end.

Says Menon, “I still have to decide how to put together the music video. We’ve filmed Rahman singing the song. I need to put it together with shots from the film.”

Menon admits this is the first promotional music video for a film that Rahman has ever shot for.

We probed a bit about what made the reclusive composer so agreeable to coming on camera for a video. Apparently, Rahman finds himself sharing a deep empathy with the Prateik-Amy Jackson romance in the film.

Says Menon, “There’s an old fashioned quality to their romance. I think Rahman identifies with that.”

Yash Chopra felicitated with Swiss Ambassador’s Award 2010

The Embassy of Switzerland felicitated Bollywood dream merchant Yash Chopra with the Swiss Ambassador’s Award 2010 for his contribution in promoting ‘Brand Switzerland’ through his movies. The award was presented at a scintillating evening hosted at the lawns of the Swiss Ambassador’s residence on Monday, October 25, 2010.

Popular actor Deepika Padukone was present on the occasion and congratulated Yashji on being presented this prestigious award. The highlight of the evening’s cultural performances was the Swiss Ambassador’s opening of the ceremony with music from Waqt (1965) that he brilliantly played on a Flügelhorn. This was followed by colourful dance performances by troupes to songs from Yash Chopra’s films.

While presenting the award to Mr. Chopra, the Swiss Ambassador H.E Mr. Philippe Welti said “We are pleased to honour Mr. Yash Chopra with the first of its kind award. Mr. Chopra’s association with Switzerland dates back to 1965 when he was present at the very same lawns while shooting for his golden jubilee hit, Waqt. Our association has come a long way since then with numerous of his movies showing the splendid serenity of Switzerland. To many Indians, a Yash Chopra movie has been their window to a scenic dreamland… a window to Switzerland.”

“I am honoured by the gesture shown by the Swiss Ambassador H.E Philippe Welti by giving me this award. Switzerland has always been my first choice of destination for shooting outside India. Be it for its picture perfect snow capped mountains or lush green fields, it is truly a heaven on earth that has made every angle, every shot and every frame of my movies breathtaking with the scenes vividly etched in peoples’ minds” said Yash Chopra on receiving the Swiss Ambassador’s Award.

Mr. Chopra’s romance with Switzerland began during his honeymoon and has continued ever since. On many instances in the past, the Swiss Government has honored Yash Chopra for helping rediscover Switzerland- for e.g. he was presented a special Award by screen goddess Ursula Andress, on behalf of the Swiss Government. The entire unit of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, the 1995 Bollywood blockbuster shot extensively in Switzerland, was given a rare Swiss recognition in Mumbai for its successful running for over 500 weeks. In fact, a lake in Switzerland has been unofficially named ‘The Chopra Lake’ because of the way Mr. Chopra has used it in films.

Hence it was only apt when Mr. Chopra, who has shot a portion of all his films in Switzerland, felt the need to share his romance with the country with his fans and decided to partner with the reputed Brandinvest AG, in bringing the “YRF Enchanted Journey” to life – a tour which gives consumers a firsthand opportunity to live the authentic YRF experience by visiting original sites and locations in Switzerland used by Yash Raj Films.

The first promo of ‘Break Ke Baad’ is attention-grabbing

Gone are the days when every second film-maker would cast a successful pair in a love story, to capitalize on their popularity. The actors never complained either, for they felt that the success of their previous film together would rub off on the new one as well. But times have changed, actors are keen to work with co-stars they haven’t worked with earlier.

Imran Khan and Deepika Padukone have been teamed for the first time in BREAK KE BAAD, produced by Kunal Kohli and directed by debutant Danish Aslam. The first thing you notice in a love story yes, BREAK KE BAAD is a prem kahani is, how good does the pair look together and I must say, Imran and Deepika look incredible together and the chemistry comes across very well.

The second thing you notice in a love story is the romance quotient, which, of course, one can’t judge by watching merely the promo of the film, but if the promo is a gist of the content, yes, the film seems like a pucca love story that’s aimed at the youth. Imran looks great and Deepika, gorgeous. Here’s a film and jodi to look forward to.

The first promo of BREAK KE BAAD will be launched in cineplexes on 1st October. Lyricist Prasoon Joshi and music composers Vishal-Shekhar come together for this album, which will be released by T-Series in mid-October.

With 13 nominations, there was no Lady Gaga and return to their homes empty-handed in on Sunday night (Sept. 12) MTV Video Music Awards. Subhash Ghai’s production Paschim Express goes on floors

Subhash Ghai’s next romantic comedy Paschim Express went on floors on 18 July with a mahurat shoot along with the debutant lead actors of the movie Sahil Mehta, Mannat (Neha Yadav), Vikas Katyal, Priyum Galav and the debut director Sunny Bhambani all of whom are from Whistling Woods International.

Paschim Express is a romantic comedy about two Punjabi families who try to have a wedding on a train journey. Initially the bride and the groom are least interested in each other and this mutual dissatisfactsion coupled with other run of events leads to serious conflicts between the two families and the wedding is called off by the parents .But the real drama starts when the bride and the groom rekindle their romance and become comfortable with each other.

Now how will the bride and the groom get together? Will the 30 years of family friendship stand this storm? These are some of the questions which Paschim Express answers. The film is a joy ride comprising of a series of events high on both drama and humour.

The film is presented by Subhash Ghai’s Mukta Arts. Music is given by Jeet Ganguly while cinematography is by Pushkar Singh.

On the Week 3 results show, Buzz Aldrin was the second person eliminated from Dancing With the Stars season 10. I’d developed a real affection for Buzz this week, and it peaked during his sweet and visually powerful farewell montage. That was convenient. Sure, he seemed a little long-winded at times, but this isn’t a batty old man we’re dealing with. The self-proclaimed ”patriotic geezer” is a smart and fascinating guy whose verbosity was not particularly well-suited for reality television in 2010. More power to him for that. ”I will miss hearing his stories,” his partner Ashly told my colleague Lynette Rice after last night’s show. ”I wish everybody could hear what he was telling me.” Read EW’s post-show interview with Buzz and Ashly over at Hollywood Insider.

”Indiana” Jake Pavelka, who was in the bottom two with Buzz, seemed humbled by the scare, but he could have snapped out of the utter terror of possibly not getting the chance to Accept This Rose long enough to shake the spaceman’s hand. Attention! (Or as DANCMSTR would have it, ”a-season ten-sion”!) Stand up and salute the astronaut, everyone. Good cast, good cast. Who’s a good cast? You are.

Many viewers and 99 percent of the Internet thought Kate Gosselin, a terrible dancer, should have gone home before Buzz. After she was the last Star called safe, the heroic mother pretended to faint. ”No fainting! There’s no fainting in ballroom,” cried Tom. ”Most of the time.” Don’t cry for her, America: Kate assured a nation of rapt viewers that she was ”actually proud” of her paparazzi-themed paso doble. ”My internal scores say ‘Thumbs up!”’ she insisted as Tony weakly raised both of his own thumbs. It will be interesting to compare Kate’s internal score next week with the technical and performance scores the judges will attempt to beam in the general vicinity of her ego’s radar.

Evan and Anna performed their quickstep as the Week 3 encore, at DANCMSTR’s request. I loved the white-haired man in the front row who was clapping the entire time they were dancing in his corner. That would totally be me if I were ever at a liiiiiiive show. You only live once, right? And I must not have registered Anna’s sassy mid-dance wink on Monday night. Or maybe she didn’t do it then. I’ll never know, unless I check.

Reba stopped by! ”Three Russians and a Pole” (Maks, Val, Snejana, and Edyta) booted it up for ”I Want a Cowboy,” and Lacey and Dmitry put up a worthy fight to the title of Reba’s second number, ”Consider Me Gone.” Did anyone else think/fear that Lacey was barefoot? Nope! Nude heels! Those two are amazing. Reba was fab and all, but my favorite thing about her at the moment is that she’s clearly such a huge fan of Dancing With the Stars. Even her sequin-embroidered, pleathery top was in the spirit of the show. When Tom asked her who she was rooting for this season, she rattled off ”Erin, Evan, and Nicole.” Uh oh, said Tom, we now have some bitter contestants backstage. Whatever, Bergeron! The fact that she was even able to name three people automatically makes her my favorite results-night musical guest of all time.
