WASHINGTON: U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on Wednesday Israel’s plan to go ahead with more settlement building in the West Bank was counterproductive to peace negotiations.

Clinton told reporters a peace deal in the Middle East was still possible and necessary and said the United States was continuing to work to resume negotiations. AGENCIES

BRUSSELS: NATO-led coalition forces in Afghanistan are facilitating contacts between senior Taliban officials and the highest levels of the Afghan government, a senior NATO official said on Wednesday.

The official, who spoke to reporters in Brussels on condition of anonymity, said discussions were still in very preliminary stages and could not be described as negotiations. AGENCIES
