Flood submerges over 40 villages in Dadu

LARKANA: The deluge continued spreading devastation across Qamber-Shahdadkot and the floodwater is now flowing in southward direction, caused several breaches in Main Nara Valley Drain (MNVD) and over 40 villages in Mehar and Khairpur Nathan Shah talukas of District Dadu became the latest victims of devastation.
A 20 feet breach was reported in Main Nara Valley Drain (MNVD) in Khairpur Nathan Shah that submerged the Guza Konb, Bheb, Mehtu Babbar and other several other adjacent villages while thousands of people were marooned.
On the other hand, no maintenance work was visible on the part of the authorities, as the villagers were strengthening the protective embankments on their own.

Ijaz Butt to meet ICC chief in London

ISLAMABAD: PCB chairman Ijaz Butt will meet ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat in London on Wednesday in the wake of the spot-fixing scandal which rocked world cricket recently.
Lorgat told a private TV channel that there is a “zero-tolerance” policy for corruption in cricket and any player involved in wrong-doing will be strictly punished.
He said it was not possible to say at this juncture what action will be taken against any player involved in match-fixing. “It would be premature to say what action will be taken,” he added.
Corruption in cricket will not be tolerated under any circumstances. However, many players are innocent and all are not involved in match-fixing, he said.
The ICC Chief said the world body was expecting that the investigation would be over by the weekend.

Clinton warns N Korea against provocation
US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton warned North Korea Wednesday to halt what she called its provocations and threats, and said the world must respond to its sinking of a South Korean warship.
Clinton, who is visiting Seoul to show solidarity amid rising inter-Korean tensions, also said the United States was reviewing additional options to hold the North accountable.
CJ assures Hamesh Khan of fair trial
Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry said that Hamesh Khan would get a fair trial for he returned back home, which shows his respect for countrys law.
A three-member bench of apex court, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudry heard the Bank of Punjab scam case.
Justice Khalilur Rehman Ramday and Justice Ghulam Rabbani are other members of the bench. During the hearing, Hamesh Khan informed the bench that all facilities made available for him and he did not face any torture. The court also rebuked director NAB for not arresting Shaikh Nisar.
Director NAB in his statement said that Seth Nisar is still at large within the country. Justice Ramday remarked that those busy in taping judges phones should trace out Seth Nisar. Director NAB said that his institution did not have the facility to tape phone and added that IB has been approached in this regard.
PM pledges Rs0.4m for each affected family in Hunza
Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that the people of Gilgit-Blatistan would not be left alone in the hour of need and announced partial relief of Rs 0.2 million for each affected family.
During a press conference in Islamabad on Wednesday, the PM rubbished the notion that the government is not taking due interest in Hunza lake issue and added that many ministers visited the affected area to assess the situation and express solidarity with the affectees of Hunza lake, formed in wake of a landslide in Attabad area.
Enlisting the efforts made by the government so far, the PM said that the spillway has been made to flush out the excessive water to avert flooding of the adjoined low-lying areas.
He pledged Rs0.1million each for the affectees would be given Rs0.4million each.
The PM said the affected families would be awarded Rs5,000 for next six months as compensation money, while utility stores would be set up in Sost and Gilgit to cater to the locals’ needs.

Mufti-e-Azam Urges Not to Comprise With Terrorism

MAKKAH: Mufti-e-Azam Saudi Arabia Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah Al Sheikh in his Hajj sermon urged on Thursday Muslim Ummah not to compromise against terrorism and be united against suicide attacks. The Arafat sermon was delivered by the Mufti-e-Azam in Masjid Nimra at Arafat.
Sheikh Abdul Aziz said the whole world was facing challenges of terrorism and efforts were being made to destroy Muslim youngsters. He said the world knew more about Islam today than ever before. Some powers are trying to create misconceptions and doubts about Islam therefore Msulims should unite to face such problems.
Sheikh Abdul Aziz told that faith was the only thing that could empower one. Islam is a religion of peace and guarantees it by opposing terrorism. He urged young Muslims to be cautious of miscreants. Today the non-Muslim powers are trying to divide Muslims and the biggest obligation of Muslims is to stay united. He urged Ummah to evade differences through tolerance and solidarity.
Mufti-e-Azam said Islam was a right religion and came for all nations of the world. The real purpose of Hajj is to spread message of oneness of Allah. It is because of non-Islamic economic principles that world’s largest companies are going bankrupt today. The world is looking for a refuge and the only refuge is Islam. He urged the media not to broadcast programs that were against moral principles.
Sheikh Abdul Aziz said the challenges world was facing today included spreading of ills across the globe and only the faith can prevent one from such problems. The planners are obliged to outline plans that could strengthen Muslims spiritually. He urged Muslim leaders to fear Allah about their nations. Muslims are facing another challenge of giving new meanings of Allah’s holy book. Muftis should also fear Allah before giving any verdict.
