0f04salman1 Salmans agenda for 2012

Salman Khan is the flavor of the season and rightly so. With BODYGUARD emerging a major money-spinner at the ticket window, the media is focusing on Salman and only Salman since the past few days. Be it the mind-boggling start undertaken by his new film BODYGUARD at the box-office or his surgery in the U.S., not a day passes when you don’t read or watch a news bulletin about the developments in the actor’s personal and professional life.

Now here’s something about the actor not many know. Salman, who underwent surgery last week in the U.S., has started promoting BODYGUARD while recuperating in the U.S. he has been advised a week’s rest by the doctors. Fully aware that he’s required to reach out to his fans when his movie releases, the actor has started connecting with Indian moviegoers via television, radio and print interviews.

Meanwhile, the actor will commence filming EK THA TIGER at a foreign destination. And like this year, which witnessed two releases READY and BODYGUARD, Salman will have two releases next year as well — Yash Raj’s EK THA TIGER which will release soon after the IPL cricket matches and Sohail Khan’s SHER KHAN Eid release.

Bollywood’s Salman Khan to have surgery in US

MUMBAI: Leading Bollywood actor Salman Khan is to have surgery in the United States to correct a facial nerve disorder that leaves him in excruciating pain, he said in an article published on Friday.

The 45-year-old star of blockbuster films like “Dabangg” (Fearless) wrote in the Hindustan Times newspaper that he had been prescribed strong medication to alleviate the symptoms, which first began four years ago.

But the drugs were ineffective and he has been in constant agony for the last year, leaving him unable to eat or drink anything cold.

“The pain is a bit too much now. So I’m going to the US to get it fixed,” he wrote in the English-language daily.

“Now, we’re getting down to something we should have done a long time ago — taking care of it.”

Doctors diagnosed Khan with trigeminal neuralgia, a nerve disorder caused by pressure on the nerve carrying sensations from the brain to the face, leading to stabbing or electric shock-like pain.

Khan said that tests, including an MRI scan, also identified an aneurysm, which caused a swelling of the blood vessels in the brain.

“That has a chance of bleeding and could be fatal. But they’re just scaring me,” he added.

Trigeminal neuralgia is thought to be associated with ageing. Pain is localised in one part of the face, usually the eye, cheek or jaw and can make everyday tasks like eating or brushing teeth excruciating.

With pain in his jaw, it once took him 90 minutes to eat an omelette, Khan said.

Tests had determined the condition was caused by veins wrapped around the nerve, he added.

The surgery means he will miss the release of his new film “Bodyguard” on August 31, which also stars Kareena Kapoor. AGENCIES

Last week, there was considerable speculation over Salman Khan’s health. Some reports stated that he had a minor cardiac problem while some claimed that he would be going to the US for treatment of a spinal condition called sciatica. The news however is that, a nerve has been giving him trouble for a couple of months.

Lately Salman has been promoting his sister Alvira’s home production Bodyguard and shooting for Yash Raj Films’ Ek Tha Tiger simultaneously. This is taking a toll on his health. Salman has now decided to slow down on the work front. He is now planning to do only one project at a time.

He has also informed his brothers Sohail and Arbaaz that he would be shooting their films Sher Khan and Dabangg 2 respectively only next year now. Producer Sajid Nadiadwala and director Shirish Kunder have also been told that their film Kick will start only at the beginning of next year. For the rest of this year, Salman will only focus on Ek Tha Tiger. Shirish Kunder has also dropped the idea of roping in Salman for a cameo in Joker.

Salman won’t begin Dabangg 2 before mid-2012

Salman Khan is busier than ever before and ‘bhai’ Arbaaz understands this well too. So while multiple assignments picked up by Salman means that his dates are coming at a premium, it hasn’t left Arbaaz untouched as well, what with Dabangg 2 further getting pushed. Though the film was earlier supposed to begin towards end of this year and was later pushed to first quarter of 2012, as things stand today Dabangg 2 won’t go on floors before June/July next year which means it would now release only in 2013.

Says a source close to the family, “Salman’s stocks have sky rocketed after giving three blockbusters in a row – Ready, Dabangg and Wanted. He has been flooded with assignments but instead of working on multiple films at the same time, he is choosing to do only one film at a time. He is currently wrapping up Bodyguard and would soon be leaving abroad for the shoot of Ek Tha Tiger. This means that Dabangg 2 would have to wait.”

One wonders in that case when would Salman’s other films like Kick, Sher Khan and an untitled film with Rensil D’Silva begin. Meanwhile Arbaaz doesn’t mind waiting for Dabangg 2 as he rightly believes that Salman’s market value would only grow further by the time they are ready with the sequel.

“Salman is busy and I have to respect that. He has clearly said that his first priority is to clear all the backlog and only then start a new film. He isn’t doing too many films but for someone of his superstar status, working on 2-3 films a year also requires huge effort. I am waiting for him and most likely would start shooting for Dabangg 2 only in the middle of next year”, says Arbaaz who would be managing the twin responsibility of producing as well as directing the film.

Well, one now hopes that Salman indeed is considering Dabangg 2 as a part of his immediate plans and picks up the film on priority next year at the least.

TORONTO: Screen tough guy Salman Khan’s corrupt cop romp “Dabangg” (Fearless) led with four wins at the Indian International Film Academy awards, held on Saturday for the first time in North America.

The film won in the hugely important music categories for best female playback singer, best male playback singer and best music direction, as well as best screenplay.

“My Name is Khan,” starring Shah Rukh Khan as a Muslim suffering from Asperger’s syndrome who is detained at a US airport after his disability is mistaken for suspicious behaviour, followed with two nods for best story and best lyrics.

The award for best dialogue went to the thriller “Ishqiya.”

Shah Rukh Khan, Anil Kapoor (“Slumdog Millionaire”) and the Deol family were among the dozens of Bollywood superstars in attendance, along with Oscar-winners Hilary Swank and Cuba Gooding Jr.

Salman Khan, however, could not make it to Toronto as he was reportedly shooting his next film “Bodyguard,” a romantic action movie with Kareena Kapoor.

“I love you so much,” said Mamta Sharma over and over, after winning the award for best female playback singer for the song “Munni Badnam.”

A tense moment followed when a fan grabbed Shah Rukh Khan onstage, leading the “King of Bollywood” to complain that he was hurting his leg.

“This is the problem, only men grab my thighs,” Khan quipped as his assailant was escorted off stage.

Khan’s return to the awards show after a six year absence had earlier been put in doubt by a knee injury that had required “a couple of injections” and it being taped up at a hospital.

He said he had fractured a part of the bone and the ligament was swollen “to three times the size it should be,” but he vowed to perform a dance number at the IIFA show.

Khan last attended the IIFA in Amsterdam in 2005, and last performed at the show a year earlier in Singapore. He was nominated this year in the best actor category for his role in “My Name Is Khan.”

A three-day festival leading up to awards night saw flash mobs of Indian dancers, gala movie premieres, a fashion show and Indian cultural events.

Jermaine Jackson performed his late brother Michael’s hits with Indian pop singer Sonu Nigam at an IIFA concert on Friday to commemorate the second anniversary of Michael’s death.

Ontario has the second-largest Indian diaspora in the world, topping 600,000 out of a total population of 13 million, “and their passion for Indian cinema has become ours (all Ontarians) too,” said Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty.

Launched in 2000 at the Millennium Dome in London, the annual IIFA awards have been held in 11 cities around the world, including Colombo, Macao, Bangkok, Dubai, Amsterdam and Johannesburg.

It is designed to celebrate the popular Hindi-language film industry and win new audiences abroad.

Bollywood gangster movie “Once Upon a Time in Mumbai” had led the field in the nominations with 12 in categories including best film and best male lead for Ajay Devgan, one of Bollywood’s leading actors.

“Dabangg” was close behind with 11 nominations.

Other movies still in the running for a clutch of awards include the drama “Ishqiya” (Love) with nine nominations. Romantic comedy “Band Baaja Baaraat” (The Wedding Planners) and the thriller “Rajneeti” (Politics) both had eight.

The nominations came from more than 1,500 votes from the Indian film fraternity.

5e2f5134srk1 Did YRF first offer Ek Tha Tiger to Shah Rukh Khan?

Yash Raj Films probably made one of the biggest announcements last week when they signed Salman Khan along with Katrina Kaif for Kabir Khan’s directorial venture Ek Tha Tiger. The news was indeed big as it is the first time Salman is working with Yash Raj Films.

However, not many people know that the same film had earlier been offered to YRF favourite and Salman’s rival Shah Rukh Khan who unfortunately couldn’t take it up due to date issues. King Khan in a recent interview has confirmed the same and has said that he doesn’t have any regrets that YRF have now gone ahead and signed Salman for the project. However, it remains to be seen if Sallu was aware of this fact before signing the project.

7a1b0fd3salmankh1 Salmans fan paints his portrait in zero gravity Salman Khan has often made paintings of his close industry friends and gifted it to them. But for a change here is a woman who has painted Salman Khan. And this is no common painting since it has been done in space in zero-gravity conditions. The lady who has managed this rare feat is Ankita Joshi who thus becomes the first woman in the world to paint in zero-gravity and Salman Khan happens to be the first personality being painted in space.

Ankita’s fascination for Salman Khan goes back a long way and when she had a chance to paint in zero-gravity she decided to paint Salman in his popular ‘Chulbul Pandey’ avatar from Dabangg. She has even applied to the Guinness Book of World Records for her exceptional feat.

Wonder what Sallu’s reaction would be when he hears of this rare feat by a die-hard fan of his?
