ECP still waits for 602 law makers financial statements

ISLAMABAD: In spite of passing deadline on Thursday for submitting financial statements, yet 602 law makers including several federal ministers have not submitted their financial statements to Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announced September 30 the deadline for submitting financial statements of parliamentarians and members of provincial assemblies.

Sources told SAMAA that the Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar-uz-Zaman Kaira, Interior Minister Rehman Malik, Khursheed Shah, Noor-ul-Haq Qadri, Samsaam Bukhari, Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar, Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani, Naveed Qamar, Ghulam Ahmed Bilour and Hina Rabbani have not contacted ECP about their financial statements.

Implement SC verdicts, SCBA president asks govt

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court Bar Association President Qazi Mohammad Anwar said it is the responsibility of the government to implement the verdicts of the Supreme Court”s in letter and spirit.

He was talking to media men outside the SC building.

It is also the court”s responsibility to get its verdict implemented, he added. ”It is our bad luck that fake degree holders once again became lawmakers.”

Nato installs surveillance system near Chaman border

CHAMAN: Nato forces in Afghanistan have installed a sophisticated surveillance system along the Pak-Afghan border to monitor the movement of insurgents in the area.

Equipped with more than half a dozen security cameras, the sprawling three hundred yards tall balloon type satellite tower has been installed at Spin Boldak town and can easily be seen from Chaman town, which lies about a kilometre south of Spin Boldak.

An Afghan security official told on the conditions of anonymity that the tower would be instrumental to monitor the border especially during the Nato operation against the Taliban in Kandahar.

He added that if needed more such towers would be installed inside The Afghan territory adjoining Pakistan.

Sardar Abbasi refuses to withdraw resignation

MURREE: Former chief minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and MNA Sardar Mehtab Abbasi refused to withdraw his resignation from his seat.

During an advisory council meeting held under the chairmanship of PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif, Abbasi was forced to withdraw but he did not do so.

The meeting deliberated in detail on the issues like VAT, upcoming budget, petitions against NRO verdict and 18th Amendment.

Sardar Mehtab Abbasi was specially invited in the meeting.

Abbasi, a key party leader from the Hazara belt has resigned over the renaming of NWFP.

Kohat toll rises to 25

KOHAT: At least 25 people were killed and several others injured in two powerful explosions at a refugee camp in Kohat’s Katcha Pakka area, Geo News reported Saturday.

According to the reports, the first blast occurred at a place where ration was being distributed among the refugees and a second bomb also went off when the people gathered for relief activities after the first blast. The second blast caused massive losses.

The injured and bodies are being rushed to district Headquarters Hospital, where emergency has been declared.

Several injured are in critical state, which may raise the death toll.

The security forces and the law enforcement agencies put security cordon around the blast site.

According to sources, both the blast were suicide attacks.

It should be mentioned the refugee camp is 20 kilometers from the Hungu city.

The affectees of Orakzai Agency operation are living at these refugees camp on Hangu Road.

Also, the sounds of gunshots were heard soon after the blast.

MNA Sardar Mehtab sends resignation to Sharif

ISLAMABAD: Sardar Mehtab Abbasi of Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) decided to resign from his National Assembly seat, Geo News reported Saturday.

Abbasi has sent his resignation to PML-N Chief Mian Nawaz Sharif.

A letter attached with the resignation, said, ‘I was elected on PML-N ticket; accordingly, he is sending his resignation to Nawaz Sharif.’

It should be pertinent to mention here that Sardar Mehtab demurred at change of the NWFP’s name and also he did not vote in the National Assembly in favour of Khyber Pakhtoonkhaw to be the new name of the NWFP.

Verdict on cases of Afaq, Amir delayed

KARACHI: The verdict in cases of Amir Khan and Afaq Ahmed has been delayed to April 7, Geo News reported Wednesday.

Talking to media, Afaq said he has no link to the government or agencies, adding he does not know who is responsible for the delay of the verdict.

Underscoring the need for jettisoning the way of politics now, Afaq said target killing should be put to end at all cost in Karachi.

Talking to media, Amir Khan said he extends the hand of reconciliation to the Muttahida, saying, ‘I extend the hand of friendship to Altaf Hussain.’

However, any settlement with Afaq is out of question, he stressed adding he is ready for reconciliation with Jamaat Islami for peace in Karachi.

CRC agrees to rename NWFP as Khyber-Pakhtoonkhwa

ISLAMABAD: The parliament constitutional reforms committee has finally reached a consensus to rename NWFP as Khyber-Pakhtoonkhwa, Geo reported Wednesday.

A final announcement in this regard is expected to be made at 8:00pm tonight, sources said.

According to reports, the reforms committee has accepted the PML-N demands about renaming of NWFP and reconstitution of judicial commission.

The decision has ended the deadlock found between the PML-N and the ANP on the renaming of NWFP.

The committee met today with Senator Raza Rabbani in the chair. Ishaq Dar and Sardar Mehtab Abbasi of PML-N, ANP’s Haji Adeel and Aftab Sherpao of PPP-S attended the meeting.

The committee, after a hectic discussion, finally agreed to rename NWFP as Khyber-Pakhtoonkhwa.

The meeting was put off till 8pm, in which final announcement will be made. The CRC Chairman will make a formal announcement about the latest development.

Speaking to Geo ANP spokesman Zahid Khan confirmed that Rabbani would announce the good news to nation.

1f01fa866bchange PML N Forms Body for NWFP Name ChangeISLAMABAD, Pakistan News: Former prime minister Mian Nawaz Sharif has constituted a party committee headed by Sartaj Aziz to consider over the change of the name of NWFP and to hold talks with Awami National Party (ANP) over the issue.

The committee was formed in a meeting of Muslim League (Nawaz) at Punjab House in Islamabad on Saturday.

The members of the committee include Saranjam Khan, Nasir Khan, Sardar Mehtab and Pir Sabir Shah.

The meeting also nominated Malik Shakeel Awan as party candidate for bye-elections of NA-55 constituency in Rawalpindi. Anbar Faiz was named party candidate for Mansehra bye-polls.
