Akshay Kumar gets injured in mob fury outside night club
Akshay’s stint as a deejay at a suburban club in Mumbai on Saturday night as part of a promotion for his new film nearly ended in disaster. The star who was out to have fun at the club playing his favourite songs from the 1970s, ended up with injuries in his arms legs and back.
Mob fury beat down on Akshay, his co-star Aditya Roy Kapoor and director Vipul Shah when youngsters were not allowed to enter the jam-packed club. They vented their fury on the club-lobby, shattering the glass cases and breaking the furniture as Akshay and his team tried to make their get-away from the back entrance.
But to no avail. There were people jamming the backdoor too. Akshay, Vipul and Aditya had no choice but to push their way through the relatively smaller melee at the backdoor. In the bustle Akshay was injured.
Shudders Vipul, “It was a nightmare. It took us a good half an hour to make our way from the back entrance to Akshay’s car. By then the damage was done.”
Akshay has forbidden his colleagues who were with him on Saturday evening from talking about his injuries.
“Achcha nahin lagta. They were well-meaning fans,” Akshay reasons.
To recap to Saturday evening, Akshay Kumar and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan were supposed to act as deejays on Saturday night at the club Polyster. Aishwarya couldn’t make it. So Akshay braved the club armed with his favourite 1970s tracks including John Travolta’s ‘Saturday Night Fever’, ‘Jai Jai Shiv Shankar’ (Aap Ki Kasam), ‘La Bamba’ and ‘Tum Kya Jaano’ (Hum Kissise Kam Nahin).
Akshay was supposed to zip into the club, spend 20 minutes DJing and leave quickly before the crowds started swelling.
But Akshay got greedy.
Says Vipul, “Akshay really began enjoying himself. Instead of 20 minutes, he stayed a good 45 minutes. By then the word had spread around the club that Akshay Kumar was the deejay of the evening. The club could hold around 400 people. We expected an additional 500 people.”
Within half an hour the crowd increased, with people trying to get into the Club.
Shudders Vipul, “The door of the club had to be shut. Those who couldn’t get in got restless and angry. They started breaking all the glass and furniture. We fled through the backdoor. But not before facing the mob at the back entrance.”
Looking back Vipul sighs, “Thank God Aishwarya couldn’t make it. I can’t begin to imagine what would’ve happened if she was present.”
Says Akshay, “Hota hai. It was good fun. I got to play my favourite John Travolta track. It’s a pity my event with John didn’t materialize. I was out of town when he was in Mumbai. And when I returned he had left Mumbai.”

Any Kaufman, whose complete name was Andrew Geoffrey Kaufman was a super American entertainer, actor and a classy performer. Andy was born on January 17th in 1949 in New York and was widely regarded as a brilliant comedian of his time.
Belonging to a Jewish middle class family, Kaufman had started his career at the tender age of nine. After attending the Graham Junior College in Boston and then graduating in 1971, Any Kaufman turned to stand-up comedy by performing his skills at various small clubs along the East Coast.
The attention-grabbing performance in his career came with the character of Foreign Man. After that there was no looking back for the marvelous comedian. His fake accent, which he often used to utter, “I would like to imitate Meester Carter, De President of The United States”. He would continue in the same breath, “Hello, I’m Meester Carter, De President of The United States. T’ank You Veddy Much’. The audience used to enjoy it.
Andy `s role in the Caspian Sea as a Foreign Man was hugely recognized and that gave him the boost to his career. His various style of comedy was broadcast in the Saturday Night Live. His Mighty Mouse single was aired again in the first season of the SNL in 1975. Later his expression of being Bunker and the joke telling were included in the show .
Andy had a daughter Maria Colonna, who was adopted by the other unknown parents. In 1992 she discovered her biological father as Andy Kaufman. Any was found of the Yoga and performed for almost three hours daily . he was vegetarian.
Andy was good in the voice over. He speaks with fake accent of the french newscasters and he continuously done that . in 1983 he was diagnosed with lung cancer but he didn’t survived and died on May 16, 1984 in Los Aneles. He will be remembered by his unique fake accent and style of comedy which he performed in the various TV shows.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Attorney General Bill McCollum isn’t on the list of Gulf state attorneys general meeting with U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder because he wasn’t invited.
McCollum spokeswoman Sandi Copes said the attorney general’s office didn’t learn about Tuesday’s meeting until a reporter sent her a press release Monday evening.
The Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama attorneys general and U.S. attorneys are meeting with Holder after he tours areas affected by the Gulf oil spill.
Copes said attorneys in McCollum’s office were trying to get an explanation from the Department of Justice for why he wasn’t invited.
US Attorney General Eric Holder said the government was investigating whether criminal charges should be filed against those responsible for what is estimated to be the biggest oil spill in US history.
The widening disaster overshadowed some better-than-expected figures from the US construction and manufacturing sectors.
The blue-chip Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 112.61 points, or 1.11 per cent, to 10,024.02. The broader Standard and Poor’s 500 Index dropped 18.7 points, or 1.72 per cent, to 1,070.71. The technology-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index was down 34.71 points, or 1.54 per cent, to 2,222.33. Eric Holder, the top US justice official, travelled to Louisiana for the first time Tuesday and signalled that the administration was considering criminal or civil cases against oil giant BP and others responsible for the growing ecological disaster.
‘If our laws were broken, leading to this death and destruction, my solemn pledge is that we will bring those responsible to justice on behalf of the victims of this catastrophe and the people of the Gulf region,’ Obama said, after a White House meeting with the co- chairs of a commission investigating the causes of the oil spill. In Washington, Mr Obama stepped up his efforts to assert control over the disaster response with his second televised address in less than a week. “If our laws have been broken leading to this death and destruction, my solemn pledge is that we will bring those responsible to justice on behalf of the victims of the catastrophe and the people of the Gulf region,” he said.
Mr Holder announced that he was launching a criminal and a civil investigation into the oil spill. Earlier, he met Louisiana law enforcement officials in New Orleans after ordering BP to preserve records that could shed light on what led to the disaster. He has also instructed US Department of Justice staff to look for evidence of “malfeasance” in the days and hours before the Deepwater Horizon rig blew up.

The Gores, who have been married since May 19, 1970 and are parents to Karenna, Kristin, Sarah LaFon and Albert Gore III, said June 1 that the split was “a mutual and mutually supportive decision that we have made together following a process of long and careful consideration,” as per an emailed statement obtained by the Associated Press and Politico.
Kalee Kreider, a spokesperson for 62-year-old Al, confirmed the statement but declined to comment further.

She co-wrote the screenplay for the upcoming 2010 film Nailed and the narration for the 2007 documentary Arctic Tale. She was also a writer for the FOX animated sitcom Futurama and the long-running NBC sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live.
Karenna is the oldest sibling to Kristin, Sarah and Albert Gore III. For Al Gore’s daughter, or any of his kids for that matter, it has got to be a difficult time for them right now. Who knows, maybe they will reconcile.
cruel intentions

It’s always a blast for the audience when two stars who are in love film a romantic movie together. Case in point: “The Notebook.” “Cruel Intentions” and “The Last Song.” The sexual energy is just a little bit higher, and the intimate moments are just that much more realistic, and the romance off screen really lends itself to making a believable story on screen.
So, needless to say, we’re pretty excited about Drew Barrymore and Justin Long’s “Going The Distance.” Since we spotted the two of them making out on the set back in October, and learned that Charlie Day and Christina Applegate would be joining the cast, we’ve been anxiously awaiting the trailer for the film, due out August 27. Well, that day has finally come.
We’ve got to say, we really like what we see! The chemistry between Justin and Drew is, as expected, very relaxed and believable, and we can totally see them as being the type of couple to try out a long distance relationship. Add that to the fact Charlie and “Saturday Night Live’s” Jason Sudeikis are totally hilarious as Justin’s character’s best friends, while Christina looks fantastic as Drew’s sister, and you’ve got us really digging this trailer.
What we like is that the trailer really doesn’t give away the entire story, but sets up what viewers will see in theaters. It shows that Drew’s Erin needs to go off to San Francisco after six weeks of dating Justin’s Garrett, but doesn’t imply that this move is only the first half of the story. Apparently things go really well for them while they’re going the long distance relationship, but it isn’t until she gets her dream job in San Francisco and his career starts

ORLANDO, Fla. — It might have seemed a little odd on the eve of the Orlando Magic’s training camp when Rashard Lewis delivered a message to teammates about “sacrifice” and “unselfishness.”
After all, it was Lewis, the Magic’s highest-paid player, who was suspended 10 games for testing positive for an elevated testosterone level. The only thing more stunning than his drug test was that he was the one of all people to talk about discipline.
Not so shocking anymore.
Overcoming the stigma of the suspension, Lewis has become the example teammates use to explain why the Magic are back in the Eastern Conference finals. A season spent neglecting individual accolades, “Sweet Lew” is again living up to his nickname with some big playoff performances.
“The only thing I felt could stop us this year was guys have egos or being selfish,” Lewis said. “My main thing was, at the end of the day, it’ll all come down to who’s going to sacrifice for that game, that year.
“We got a lot of talent on this team. We got guys that sit on the bench that could go and start on other teams. Just told them the word of this year, the biggest word is ’sacrifice.’”
Lewis stayed true to his message, even when it resulted in criticism.
His 14.1 points per game was the lowest of his career since he became a regular starter in the 1999-2000 season with Seattle. Some felt the production was not up to par for a player making $18.8 million this season.
“People have their little he said, she said like, ‘This guy’s getting paid this amount of money but he’s not producing,’” Lewis said.
Things weren’t always as bad as they seemed.
Lewis’ 43 percent shooting was the same as when he was an All-Star last year. The difference was, with the addition of Vince Carter and a talent-rich roster, Lewis had almost 400 fewer shot attempts this season.
“It was a little tough some times,” Lewis said. “Some nights you lose ball games and you’re not taking very many shots, it’s tough. You look at yourself in the mirror and feel like you could have been the reason that you lost, or you could have been the reason that you could have won if you had been more aggressive and taken more shots.”
The message has resonated with teammates.
The Magic swept through the first two rounds and have won 14 straight games. They await the winner of the Cleveland-Boston series, which the Celtics led 3-2 entering Thursday night’s game.
After hitting several game-winning shots in last year’s run to the NBA finals, Lewis averaged 17 points per game in the second round, showing he can still make shots when needed most.
But it’s the individual sacrifices where teammates say he’s made his biggest mark.
Carter, an eight-time All-Star, had his lowest scoring numbers in years. Dwight Howard and Jameer Nelson saw their scoring averages dip, too.
The Magic, finishing with the league’s second-best record behind Cleveland, didn’t even have a player in the top 20 in points per game. They all credit Lewis with motivating them to focus on the team’s goals first.
“It’s hard to be selfish with this group,” Magic coach Stan Van Gundy said. “You would stand out, and not in a good way.”
The Magic also never let Lewis’ suspension become a distraction.
They rolled out to a 17-4 to start this season, getting solid stints from newcomers Ryan Anderson and Brandon Bass. Looking back, players believe that early bit of adversity was actually a good thing.
“Nobody wants to see anybody suspended or anything, but I think it helped us in the long run,” Nelson said. “We had guys step up big time, and I think it helps us out for this part of the season, the playoffs.”

LOS ANGELES — Facebook fans brought Betty White to “Saturday Night Live,” and now they’ve got their eyes on the Oscars.
A page on the social networking website, called Official Page for Getting Betty White to Host the Academy Awards, has collected more than 56,000 fans.
One commenter wrote that “Betty White would be one of the best hosts ever!!!!!”
But the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences says it isn’t ready to let Facebook make casting decisions for film’s biggest night.
Spokeswoman Leslie Unger says the academy plans to continue with its protocol of allowing the producers to select the host that will best serve the show they’re trying to put together.

Koscheck accuses Daley of cheating; White discusses Kimbo Slice release
There was irony in Josh Koscheck’s UFC 113 win over Paul Daley on Saturday night at the Bell Centre, one that set up Koscheck for a title shot and cost Daley his job.
Koscheck was booed by the crowd of 17,647 fans, who wanted to see a grudge match end with wild punches and a knockout. Instead, they got what was almost a duplicate of the March 27 fight in Newark, N.J., where welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre won a decision over England’s Dan Hardy by using an effective but not particularly exciting style of ground control.
Like St. Pierre against Hardy, Koscheck (17-4) took Daley (23-9-2), perhaps the most explosive welterweight striker, down to the ground and controlled him for most of three straight rounds, winning a straight 30-27 decision. The win was by far the biggest of Koscheck’s career.
The fight was to not only determine who would coach against St. Pierre on the next season of “The Ultimate Fighter” reality show, which starts filming in a few weeks, but also who would get the next crack at St. Pierre’s title in December.
After Saturday’s fight was over, Koscheck, booed as much as any UFC fighter in recent years with the exception of heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar, told the crowd that the Pittsburgh Penguins would be beating the Montreal Canadiens in their NHL playoff series and that Montreal would lose twice since he was going to beat St. Pierre.
Koscheck, who grew up in Pennsylvania and was the 2001 NCAA Division I wrestling champion at Edinboro College, going 43-0-1, said the interview was done in response for the crowd’s reaction to him. He said he was not aware at the time that the Penguins had won the game that ended earlier that evening. He joked that he didn’t want the title fight in Montreal, but said he wanted it in Pittsburgh.

Betty White kicked off her long-anticipated Saturday Night Live hosting gig by addressing the Facebook movement that brought her to the show in the first place.
While she knocked the service, she was very gracious and thankful to her fans.
White first joked about the live nature of the show. “Back then we didn’t want to do it live, we just didn’t know how to tape things,” she said. “So I don’t know what this show’s excuse is.”
Then she turned her attention to the new media movement. “I really have to thank Facebook,” she said, but admitted she wasn’t aware of its existence until the campaign began.
And once she learned about what it was: “It sounds like a huge waste of time.”
Comparing her youth to the youth of today (who spend hours on Facebook), she said, “Facebook just sounds like a drag. In my day seeing pictures of people’s vacation was considered a punishment.”
Well, Betty’s millions of fans will be tuning in tonight to continuously support and adoration for the 88 year-old superstar. In a conference call, the Golden Girl said, “It blows my mind,” adding, “I can’t get over, at my age, what all’s going on. All I can do is roll with the punches, enjoy it thoroughly, and be grateful for it.” She definately is a leading lady!
Saturday’s whole show was one big celebration of White, from the commercials featuring the actress to her game presence in every sketch. A number of the skits didn’t do much more than trade on her saucy-grandma image, and there wasn’t necessarily a classic moment in the 90-minute show.
