Ranbir Kapoor’s loss becomes Aditya Roy Kapoor’s gain

From one Kapoor to another. Debutant Aditya Roy Kapur who has made such a positive impact in Action Replayy has Ranbir to thank for the part. Post-Saawariya Aditya’s role was first offered to Ranbir who had reservations about sharing screen space with Aishwarya and Akshay.

Veejay-turned-actor Aditya Roy Kapur who also plays a major role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Guzaarish, has found unexpected support in Aishwarya Rai Bachchan who stars with him in both his post-debut films.

While Aishwarya plays Aditya’s mother in Vipul Shah’s Action Replay, she stars as his confidante and sympathetic shoulder in Guzaarish, two contrasting roles with the same actress that could create a confusion of perception, though it may be recalled Jaya Bhaduri played Sanjeev Kumar’s daughter and wife in Parichay and Koshish, respectively.

Aditya is totally unfazed and far from confused about his diametrically opposed parts with Aishwarya in the two films he’s doing with her.

“Sanjay Bhansali Sir’s and Vipul Sir’s film approach and treatment to the characters are so different, my response to the scenes is decided the minute I reach the sets for the two films. So I’m not confused by differing roles with Aishwarya in the two films, says the young actor who made his debut last year in London Dreams as Zoheb, the Pakistani member of Ajay Devgan’s rock band.

“I had no burning ambition to become an actor, confesses Aditya whose eldest brother Siddharth works with UTV and second brother Kunal is a director- actor. Aditya is the baby of the family. “Considering my eldest bro is 19 years my senior, he’s almost like a father figure. So yes, I’m the baby of the family. I think Sanjay Sir and Vipul Sir saw me veejaying on television and decided to sign me. Luckily both the experiences have been rewarding.

Though Aditya has been seen around with his Guzaarish co-star Monikangana Dutta, it’s Aishwarya Rai Bachchan he likes talking about. “She has been very helpful with my scenes, telling me how to do them. She has been a silent support on the sets. I won’t forget that.

Aditya has often been seen hanging out with Monikangana. But he dismisses any talk of their friendship being anything more. “She’s my co-star in Guzaarish. And we’re of the same generation. So we spend time together. Otherwise I am single at the moment.

Owing to Suriya’s popularity, Tamil Rakta Charitra to release in single part

Vivek Oberoi would be a part of the history with him being the first mainstream hero ever to have a two-part release of his film. Rakht Charitra would be arriving in its first part this Friday while the second part would come exactly a month later. However, this is for the Hindi and the Telugu version. When it comes to the Tamil version, which is expected to be spearheaded entirely by Suriya due to his immense popularity down South, Rakht Charitra would release in a single, albeit a longer version.

Confirms Ramu, “In the Hindi version, Vivek (Oberoi) features in both the parts of the film though Suriya is only introduced in the first part while he becomes far more prominent in the second version. Hence, it was a given that the Hindi version of the film would release in both the parts. Telugu version too made sense to come in two distinct parts since the audience out there in Andhra Pradesh and adjoining regions are pretty much aware about the core story and the exploits of Paritala Ravi (played by Vivek) and Suryanarayan Reddy (Suriya). Hence, for them it’s the story that would matter most, more than the actors playing the part.”

However, what tilted the balance in favour of a single part release of the Tamil version of Rakht Charitra was the bigger presence of Suriya in it. It was apparent that since Vivek comes primarily from the B-town, the audience may have gone a little restless to see only him in the first part of the film and then wait for their local hero Suriya to arrive only in the second part.

“Not that you would see only Suriya in the single part Tamil version”, reassures Ramu, “Vivek is an integral part of the film and while he anyways had an equal role to play along with Suriya in the second part, there are scenes of his from the first part that have been integrated with the second part here. So now we will have a full length feature film with both the actors.”

While both parts of the Hindi and Telugu versions would be a little over two hours each, the Tamil version is expected to be released with a three hours running length. Moreover, the editing of each of the three versions – whether Hindi, Telugu or Tamil, would differ as well so as to bring to fore the local flavour of the territories. This means that the trilingual features all the actors enacting their scenes little differently in each of the versions.

“I spoke in all the three languages – Tamil, Telugu as well as Hindi – but enacted the scenes differently”, says Suriya who is not quite looking at Rakht Charitra as his big Bollywood launch but is instead treating it as just another exciting film of his, “Yes, I know that in Tamil, the film is coming in only one part.”

Though he stays on to be quite modest about his popularity in South being the sole reason for the decision being made, he humbly attributes the decision making to his director Ram Gopal Varma.

“Since the first part doesn’t feature me for most of its duration, Ramu felt it would make sense to wait for some time and then club both parts together”, says Suriya, “Ramu feels that the film would find more patronage in Tamil version if crowds come in because of me.”

With a recollaboration of Hey Babyy team, the recently released multi-starrer flick Housefull is all set to entertain the audiences this summer. While the film is getting rave reviews for its hilarious script, the stars’ performances and the lively jokes, what makes the film more than just staple Bollywood masala is the extraordinary visual effects (VFX) and DI executed by Mumbai-based Visual entertainment services Company, Prime Focus.

Talking about the vfx of the movie, Merzin Tavaria, Chief Creative Director at Prime Focus said, “Housefull is one of the most challenging films in terms of creatives and deliveries. The most important sequences being the Tiger sequence and the Monkey sequence. We had a couple of scenes which involved the lead actors interacting with a Tiger which was quite difficult to shoot in reality,That’s one of the scenes where we have used VFX but the beauty of the shot is that it’s so seamless that you can’t make out the use of VFX and this helps, as it looks real and doesn’t disturb the narrative.

Apart from the vfx, what added glitz to movie was the Digital Intermediate (DI) executed by the Prime Focus team.

Says DI head and Chief colorist Rohan Desai,” Since Housefull is a romantic comedy, we have set the palette to bright-happy colors. We have maintained a very clean and consistent look for the entire movie.

Talking about the challenges Rohan said , “Most of the scenes in Housefull were shot in London where the weather is very erratic; as a result there were a lot of lighting challenges involved, with Digital Intermediate we achieved the required look and feel for the scenes and consistency in terms of skin tones and background. There were scenes where we had patches of clouds passing by that made the background change tones from dull to bright and dim again; We animated the color grades and used DI to maintain consistency in terms of lighting. ,” Desai added.

In a special VFX showcase series by Bollywood Hungama, we bring you an exclusive behind-the-scenes, shot by shot explanation which will take you on an enriching vfx ride courtesy Prime Focus, Sajid Nadiadwala and the Director Sajid Khan.

821a4d14de25 LA Marathon Road Closures with 25000 People on StreetsWith the sold-out L.A. Marathon–that’s 25,000 people–on its new, yet popular, Stadium to Sea route, street closures will be aplenty this Sunday. The race moves mainly through Los Angeles, but it will also affect streets in West Hollywood, Beverly Hills and Santa Monica.

Downtowners interested in checking out the race no longer get to roll out of bed just in time for the finish, but the scenes of runners and wheelchair racers are worth getting up early.

“I’ve had more than one elected official tell me that he hasn’t seen the greater Los Angeles region cooperate like this on anything since the 1984 Olympics,” added Marathon President Russ Pillar.

The LA Marathon 2010 starts early today, Sunday, March 21. See the list of LA Marathon street closures as provided by CBS.

Jan Hooks SNL, The women of “Saturday NIght Live” never get the credit their due. At least, that was the case until Tina Fey became an international superstar as she transitioned from “SNL” head writer/performer to “30 Rock” producer /star/multi-award winner. How appropriate, then, that one of “SNL’s” most underrrated funny ladies will join Fey on tonight’s “30 Rock.”ada1d8aa13ks snl1 Jan Hooks SNL

Jan Hooks stops by tonight to play Verna, the manipulative mother of Jenna (Jane Krakowski). Jenna prepares for Verna’s visit by getting “how-to-say-no-to-Mom” advice from Jack, who has had his share of mommy issues. Verna, though, seems to be all apologies and warm fuzzies, wanting to make up for a lifetime of controlling Jenna.

Hooks’ larger-than-life personality is a great fit for the exaggerated reality of “30 Rock,” and her scenes with Baldwin are especially hoot-worthy.

I loved Hooks on “SNL” and “Designing Women,” where she took over for the departing Jean Smart. Hooks needs more work, people! Verna, at least, deserves a return visit.

ffaf444d34jones2 Jennifer JonesJennifer Jones (who died today at the age of 90) was old-school Hollywood, a dark-haired beauty who could play anything — and was cast in a variety of roles in the ’40s and ’50s.

She was the half-Indian temptress (pictured) in the notorious Western “Duel in the Sun” (which was nicknamed “Lust in the Dust” for its steamy scenes), produced by David O. Selznick — who became her second husband.

She played a Eurasian doctor who falls for William Holden in “Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing.” And she won an Oscar in 1943 for “The Song of Bernadette,” in which she played a nun.
