810de9db40ade612 tinley park home invasionA massive manhunt employing helicopters and canine units was under way in south suburban Tinley Park after an early morning home invasion that injured two residents. Two suspects were in custody and police are searching for as many as four others who they said may be armed.

The home invasion happened about 4 a.m. in the 9100 block of Basswood Drive. Police said they received a call from an adolescent male who said someone was in the home with a gun. The caller then hid in the living room and stayed on the phone with police.

When police arrived, they saw a suspect assaulting a male resident through a window. At least four people are believed to live in the home. As police entered the residence, the suspects broke through windows and doors to escape. One male was caught as he tried to enter a vehicle in the area, Tinley Park Commander Rick Bruno said.
Area schools were on soft lockdown, meaning pupils weren’t being let out of buildings until the end of the school day.

“This doesn’t happen often at all,” Bruno said of the manhunt. “It’s very rare.”

Another suspect was taken into custody at 6:15 a.m. at 183rd Street and Lenore Lane after a resident called police about a man acting suspiciously in a neighbor’s driveway.

All four suspects are described as male African-Americans. Two are described as 5-foot-7 with a medium build and short dark hair. Both were wearing long black T-shirts, black vests and pants. One wore a Yankees baseball hat and the other was carrying a gun.

The two residents, a male and female, were sent to Palos Community Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said. As of 10 a.m., police said they had no motive.

Tinley Park Elementary School District 146 canceled after-school activities and was not letting students out for recess. Kirby School District 140 serving Tinley Park and Orland Hills was on soft lockdown.

In nearby Mokena, school officials said students will not be released until a parent picks them up or the situation is resolved.

About 20 other police departments and the Illinois State Police are assisting Tinley Park Police, Bruno said.

Police have set up a perimeter in the area and are conducting a search for the suspects, who police believe are on foot. They also alerted residents through the City Watch program, which calls and warns residents of potential danger, and increased police presence at all local schools and transportation centers.

The Story of Stuff is a polemical animated documentary about the life-cycle of material goods.31366e9838stuff The Story of Stuff

Activist Annie Leonard wrote and narrated the film. Tides Foundation, The Funders Workgroup for Sustainable Production and Consumption, Free Range Studios and other foundations funded the film.[2] Free Range Studios produced it. It was first launched online on December 4, 2007.

The documentary is being used in elementary schools, arts programs, and post-graduate economics classes[dubious – discuss] as well as places of worship and corporate sustainability trainings. By February 2009, it had been seen in 228 countries and territories. According to the hosting site as of September 2009[update], it already had more than 7 million views.

Critics consider the documentary to contain incorrect and misleading information and/or to be politically partisan and liberal; this has led the school board of a Montana school district to ban use of the video in the classroom, citing its regulations on bias as justification.

Parents of students who attend Isabelle Jackson Elementary said that the woman is a good teacher, but just made a mistake that may become the most embarrassing moment of their life.

The offending DVD starts with a menu screen that displays various school trips and functions, and when you click on one of them, you see kids in a classroom sharing stories. They start clapping, then the video suddenly cuts to sex.

The Elk Grove Unified School District says they are investigating, but legal experts say it’s unlikely that the teacher will lose her job.

“It’s felony stupid, but it’s not a crime,” said defense expert Ken Rosenfeld. “Is it something that she should be disciplined for? Absolutely, but fired for? She didn’t intend for this to happen.”

Joe doesn’t care if the teacher keeps her job, he’d just like some help from the school.

School officials say a new DVD will be sent to students once it has been reviewed.

yeah she should watch the DVD before she sent it out with the students. Next time she’ll do it.

what an awesome teacher! We would be embarrassed too, leave town quickly and change name.

Poughkeepsie Journal,Pine Plains Central School District:With a gunman in custody, police are working to evacuate Stissing Mountain school and account for the students.

At about 11 a.m., Dutchess County Sheriff deputy Thomas Lasher announced to parents that students will be bused from the school to the town’s highway garage. They will be counted and bused back to the school.

Once all the students are back in the school, they are being told to go to their first period classroom where their teachers will take attendance to account for everyone who went to school this morning, Lasher announced.

At 11 a.m. school buses were spotted headed toward Stissing Mountain school.

American Red Cross volunteers and mental health workers are on site to provide counseling.

Earlier today, the gunman who allegedly barricaded himself in the middle school with a hostage was taken into custody, Town Supervisor Gregg Pulver said.

Multiple sources have said the man in custody is Christoper Craft, a Pine Plains resident.

Bob Hess, the middle school principal, who had been taken hostage, has been released unharmed.

At 10:15 a.m., police were working on a plan to evacuate students and reunite them with their parents, Pulver said.

The district’s Web site states the building includes grades 6 to 12. The high school enrollment is about 400 students and middle school includes about 270 students.

“We have to provide the counseling to the students who need it and figure out the best way to reunite students and parents. They are working on that,” Pulver said.

Bruce Kimball, vice president of the school’s board of education, said a lockdown drill was held Nov. 5 to practice for an emergency situation.more
