SRK to do cameo in Always Kabhi Kabhi

It has been known for some time now that Karim Morani’s daughter Zoa is being launched by Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment in Always Kabhi Kabhi. However, there was much speculation about SRK’s presence in the film.

Well, it has now been confirmed that King Khan will not be a part of the film but he will do a promotional video for it. The said promotional video will feature SRK talking about his school days.

With the backdrop of high school students, their issues and their relationships, the film is expected to hit the screens on June 17. Besides Zoa, the film also stars Love Aaj Kal damsel Giselle Monteiro, Ali Fazal and Satyajeet Dubey.

‘TMK’ & ‘TKS’ will open in U.K. & U.S. before India release

All eyes are on the two major releases this Christmas – TEES MAAR KHAN and TOONPUR KA SUPERRHERO. The Christmas weekend, over the years, has yielded excellent returns [2007: TAARE ZAMEEN PAR and WELCOME; 2008: GHAJINI; 2009: 3 IDIOTS] and one expects a repeat of previous years’ performance, this year. Though the Christmas weekend is of immense significance in India, it’s considered the most lucrative period worldwide, since the world is in a celebratory mood, enjoying Christmas and New Year festivities [the holiday period is spread over two weekends].

In view of the fact that film business shoots up during Christmas and New Year weekends, the distributors of both, TEES MAAR KHAN [UTV] and TOONPUR KA SUPERRHERO [Eros], have decided to release the films worldwide two days before they hit the screens in India. While the two films will open on 24 December [Friday] in India, they will be released in U.S. and U.K. on 22 December [Wednesday], while Middle East will open on 23 December [Thursday] to capitalize on the festive period. Rest of the world [including India] will open on 24 December [Friday]. Fingers crossed!

Bollywood looks for Diwali success

MUMBAI: Bollywood is gearing up for a slew of new releases over the Hindu festival of Diwali, with expectations high that they will provide some cheer after a lacklustre year at the box office.

At least 10 big films are due to hit the screens in the coming weeks, with hopes of success pinned on the comedy “Golmaal 3″ and the time-travel romance “Action Replayy” that will be released on Diwali itself on November 5.

Like the Christmas period for Hollywood, Diwali has traditionally been seen as a money-spinner for India’s Hindi-language film industry, as studios look to attract the holiday crowd with well-trailed movies featuring big name stars.

Industry watchers estimate that Bollywood could make four billion rupees (90 million dollars) by the end of the year.

Are you aware? Interesting developments of the week

The release date of quite a few films has been reshuffled. PAAN SINGH TOMAR, starring Irrfan Khan and directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia, which was supposed to hit the screens in October initially, has been pushed to next year. The new date is yet to be finalised.

Which will be the first release of 2011? The Rani Mukherji – Vidya Balan starrer NO ONE KILLED JESSICA. The film is confirmed for release on 7th January, 2011.

Aamir Khan has confirmed the month of release of DHOBI GHAT. It’s February. Reportedly, Aamir is likely to decide on the date shortly. It could be 18th or 25th.

Several biggies are eyeing June 2011. Shah Rukh Khan’s RA.ONE, Ranbir Kapoor’s ROCKSTAR the film is 70% complete and Hrithik Roshan’s ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA are confirmed for release this month.

‘Kajraare’ will not arrive on 6th Aug., shifted ahead’

KAJRAARE has been pushed ahead! Initially slated for release on 6th August, the film will now release on Eid, on 10th September. That’s the buzz in the industry. The postponement has come as a surprise, since the promotion of the film is in full gear.

Bhushan Kumar, the producer of KAJRAARE, sheds light on the issue, “Yes, we are not releasing the film on 6th August. In fact, we haven’t taken a call on the new date yet.” The buzz is that the film will now hit the screens on Eid. Will it withstand the tough competition posed by DABANGG and WE ARE FAMILY? “It’s uncertain at the moment. We will arrive at a decision [on the new date] within a week or so,” he states.

Why this sudden shift? “Our distributors are of the opinion that we shouldn’t release the film during the holy month of Ramzan. Also, since we are planning to have a really big release in Pakistan, releasing the film during Ramzan would’ve hampered the business prospects. In view of the fact, we decided to shift the film to a latter date,” the head honcho of T-Series reveals.

Akshay finds solution to ‘Action Replayy’ – ‘Patiala House’ clash

The showdown has been averted! ACTION REPLAYY and PATIALA HOUSE, both starring Akshay Kumar, were supposed to release in the same month – November. While Vipul Shah had confirmed ACTION REPLAYY for 5th November, Nikhil Advani and Mukesh Talreja were keen on bringing PATIALA HOUSE on 19th November. However, the film-makers of these two films had left the decision on Akshay Kumar, who was supposed to take a call after completing his shoot in Manali.

Well, the suspense is finally over. While ACTION REPLAYY is confirmed for Diwali [5th November], thus clashing with GOLMAAL 3, PATIALA HOUSE has been shifted to next year. The film will now hit the screens on 11th February 2011.
