Kayani heads to US to attend strategic dialogue

Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Kayani has left for United States to attend the third phase of Pak-US strategic dialogue which would start in Washington from tomorrow.
Pakistan Army chief will hold meetings with US military officials and the members of Obama administration during his stay in United States, ISPR spokesman said. The officials of the two countries will consider cooperation in energy, agriculture, education, security and other sectors in the talks that will last for three days. Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi will head the Pakistani delegation, while the US team will be headed by the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Army Chief Gen. Kayani and Finance Minister Abdul Hafeez Shaikh will also attend the meeting.

UK assessing Pakistan needs: British secretary

KARACHI: British foreign secretary William Hague Thursday said the UK government is taking stock of Pakistan needs and that his current visit here is in the same connection.

He said this during his meeting with Sindh Governor Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan here at Governor House.

William Hague underscored the need for building confidence of foreign investors, terming it important for progress of Pakistan.

He also stressed the significance of accountability in the law enforcement agencies for establishing an atmosphere of peace and tranquility.

Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad on the occasion said the city enjoys a total ethnic harmony.

Speaking about the improvement of the transport system of the city, he said funds are required for installation of mass transit system and added that opportunities for investment also exist in many other sectors.

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said the friends will be invited for investment in private sector in Pakistan.

In the conference being held in Dubai will discuss to promote and encourage the role of partnership between the public and private sectors to help Pakistan to achieve social and economic development.

The conference also aims to encourage the private sector in the 23 member states in the Group to invest in Pakistan particularly in the sectors of energy, infrastructure, agriculture, health and education.

The Pakistani side will present the investment opportunities and projects that the Government of Pakistan intends to put forward in the context of reconstruction and stability for the people of Pakistan.

2d7c59fe6btoday IMF To Meet on Pak Aid TodayKARACHI: The International Monetary Fund will undertake the third review on Pakistan economy for approval of the fourth installment of $1.20 billion today.

The Fund is sure to approve the fourth installment as Pakistan has met all the requirements of the IMF such as removal of subsidies on electricity and other sectors as well as a tightened monetary policy being carried out by the State Bank of Pakistan.

IMF has recommended tightening of the monetary policy to carry on a higher interest rate in view of higher inflation rate, which IMF feels adversely, affects the poor.

decacd7755or pak Dollar 350 Million Loan Pacakage Signed By WB For PakISLAMABAD: Pakistan will get USD 350 million loan from World Bank that would be spent on promoting higher education, social security and other sectors in the country.

Government of Pakistan and World Bank signed three agreements in this connection here Tuesday which will enable Pakistan of receiving the concessional loan to be paid back in 35-year time span at zero point five per cent interest rate.

According to the agreements, $200 million would be spent on developing social security net, $100 million on promoting higher education and remaining $50 million on development of irrigation system in Sindh.

WB’s Country Director for Pakistan Yusupha Crookes and Secretary Economic Affairs Division Farrukh Qayyum signed the agreements in a ceremony here.
