Swabi: 2 cops killed, 6 hurt in Police Lines suicide attack

Two police personnel got killed while six others injured in a suicide attack at Police Lines in Swabi, Dunya News reported Monday.
According to DIG Mardan, the attack was a suicidal attack; the attackers were trying to barge into Police Lines, when he was intercepted by a police positioned there.
At least six cops including an inspector are injured in the attack, the police official said.
Both the attackers also got killed in the exchange of fire between the police and unidentified miscreants that ensued after grenade attack.
The police put security cordon off the area while the wounded have been shifted to nearby hospitals.

FC Commandant Sifwat Ghayur killed in Peshawar blast

PESHAWAR: Commandant FC Sifwat Ghayur along with at least four guards has been killed in a powerful suicide blast in Peshawar area of Saddar, Geo News quoted SP Cantt Wednesday.

The SP Cantonment said the suicide bomber targeted the FC vehicle, adding the injured have been shifted to LRH.

The blast occurred at Deens Chowk, a usually crowded commercial spot. The blast damaged at least three vehicles including one FC’s vehicle carrying Sifwat Ghayur, FC’s Commandant.

The FC Headquarters is situated near the blast site.

The Bomb Disposal Squad, police and other law enforcement agencies approached the area before long and put a security cordon around the blast site.

The firefighters are busy with efforts putting out the fire that encompassed the vehicles after the blast.

Various hurt in Hyderabad blast

HYDERABAD: Various people were injured in Hyderabad area of Halanaka, when a blast occurred in a truck, Geo News quoted police say Monday.

The blast site, which is a commercial area, is littered with the blood and shards with a nearby mosque harmed to a large extent.

SSP Special Branch said the blast occurred in a truck that was parked at a truck stand here.

The injured have been shifted to hospital.

Talking to Geo News, RPO Hyderabad Leghari said eight injured have been shifted to Civil Hospital and five others shifted to another local hospital. Four injured are in critical condition.

Leghari said the Bomb Disposal Squad is ascertaining the cause of blast, as the nature of blast is hitherto unconfirmed.

The RPO said the incident could not be termed as a terror-related occurrence.

According to Geo News correspondent, an oil tanker was also parked near the blown up truck.

According to police sources, at least 13 people were injured in the blast. (Last updated at 1225)

14 dead, scores hurt in Hyderabad blast

HYDERABAD: At least 14 people were killed and various others injured when a blast occurred in a truck in Halanaka area of Hyderabad, Geo News reported Monday.

According to Geo News, at least 14 bodies have been brought to hospitals and several others were injured, of them, 12 are in critical condition.

An eyewitness told Geo News that the blast occurred at a commercial center, where at least eight shops were completely destroyed, adding a mosque was also harmed.

The high-tension wires have snapped broken as a result of blast, which was heard far and wide. The power pylons are seen lying around the blast site near Super Highway.

The law enforcement agencies including police put a security cordon around the blast site.

Earlier talking to Geo News, RPO Hyderabad Leghari said eight injured have been shifted to Civil Hospital and five others shifted to another local hospital. Four injured are in critical condition.

Leghari said the Bomb Disposal Squad is ascertaining the cause of blast, as the nature of blast is hitherto unconfirmed.

Mirza sees LPG cylinders as blast cause

HYDERABAD: Sindh Home Minister Zulfiqar Mirza Monday said the blast in Hyderabad that killed at least 14 people was caused by LPG cylinders.

He said while speaking at Sindh Assembly, the LPG cylinders which were stacked up on a truck parked at Halanaka’s commercial area, blew up to trigger the casualties.

The intensity of blast was multiplied as a transformer was present near the truck when it blew up with LPG cylinders, he added.

The Home Minister said the cylinder leakage caused the blast.

Hyderabad blast toll rises to 18

HYDERABAD: At least 18 people were killed and various others injured when a blast occurred in a truck in Halanaka area of Hyderabad, Geo News reported Monday.

SP Investigation Muhammed Ali Baloch confirmed to the Geo News the killings of at least 18 people, adding at least 40 people were injured in the blast; of them 9 are in critical condition.

He added 33 injured have been brought to Civil hospital and seven others were taken to Iqra Hospital.

Baloch said there was thinner in the truck, which developed a massive pressure within, and caused a huge blast, declining any possibility of terror link in the incident.

Federal cabinet approves Labour Policy

ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet approved the Labour Policy 2010 in a special meeting, Geo News reported Saturday.

The minimum wages for the labourer has been raised from Rs6000 to Rs7000 in a meeting presided over by Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani.

The meeting held Convention Center Islamabad, reviewed the Labour Policy hammered out by the Ministry of Labour and Manpower. The new Labour Policy will be put in force from June 1.

Under new policy, the industrial labourers will be entitled to further privileges and the forced labour would be put to an end.

Under the policy, the minors aged 14 to 18 would not be allowed to work in uncongenial and improper atmosphere. The number of women at any company would be specified under ILO Charter.

The new policy also stipulates the rules and regulations relating links between employers and employees.

Swat suicide blast kills 2, injures 12

SWAT: At least two persons were killed and 12 others injured in a powerful suicide blast in Mingora area of Sohrab Khan Chawk in Swat, Geo News reported Saturday.

Deputy Inspector General of Malakand Police Qazi Jameel confirmed that blast at Sohrab Khan Chawk that claimed two lives, was suicide attack.

Talking to Geo News, he said at least two people were killed and nine others injured in the blast.

MS Saidu Sharif Hospital Lal Noor said at least 12 injured have been brought to the hospital; of them, three are in critical state, who have been sent to operation theater.

The blast occurred in a large market situated near Sohrab Khan Chawk in Mingora. The injured have been rushed to Saidu Sharif Hospital.

The blast was so powerful that several shops were destroyed. Police and other law enforcement agencies put a security cordon around the blast site.

It should be mentioned that Green Chawk, where a suicide bomber was arrested minutes before the blast and Sohrab Khan Chawk are two busiest points in the city.

Earlier today, the security forces received tip-off regarding the presence of two bombers in the area. One was arrested from Green Chawk and shot down two extremists; however, the other one managed to blow him up at Sohrab Chawk, 100 meters away from Green Chawk.

According to police sources, the deceased are Farhan and Hussain. The injured include Akbar Khan, Bahram, Muhammed Riaz, Gohar, Fazl Rehman and Fazl Haq.

Alleged suicide bomber nabbed from Swat

SWAT: An alleged suicide bomber has been arrested from Green Chawk area of Swat, Geo News reported Saturday.

According to the security sources, there were reports regarding the presence of a suicide bomber at Green Chawk. On this, the forces, ordering the closure of nearby market, put a security cordon around the area.

The bomber was arrested and shifted to undisclosed location for interrogations. Also, suicide vest and other explosive material were recovered from him.

The suicide attacker aged 16, was wearing black clothes. The security forces started search operation in the entire area.

DPO Swat satisfied over security steps

SWAT: District Police Officer (DPO) Swat Ghulam Farooq claimed that the security situation is up to the mark in the city, where a suicide bomber was arrested minutes ago and another succeeded in exploding himself, Geo News reported Saturday.

Talking to Geo News, the DPO said he cannot confirm about the nature of the blast at present.

He also expressed satisfaction over the security situation in the city.

It should be mentioned that the security forces received tip-off regarding the presence of two bombers in the area. On was arrested from Green Chawk; however, the other one managed to blow him up 100 meters away from Green Chawk at Sohrab Chawk.
