b143b90855sharif SELL SUGAR AT RS.45 PER KG, PML,N NAWAZ SHARIFNAWAZ SHARIF DIRECTS PUNJAB GOVERNMETN TO BIND MILL OWNERS TO SELL SUGAR AT RS.45 PER KG

Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan:- Top leadership of Pakistan Muslim League(N), here today, in a meeting reviewed the crisis situation arising due to exorbitant sugar prices. The meeting examined sugar prices announced by the Minister of Industries & Production, without consulting Chief Minister Punjab and against the viewpoint of Punjab government, which has given a severe blow to Punjab government’s efforts to keep sugar prices at a reasonable level. The PML meeting was presided by its Quaid Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and attended by Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, Leader of Opposition Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Senator Ishaq Dar, Senator Pervaiz Rashid, Member National Assembly Capt. Safdar, Chief Secretary Punjab Javed Mehmood and other top officials.

The PML(N) leadership concluded that the sugar price announced by Minister of Industries & Production was highly unjustified and there were chances that sugar prices might increase after it, which would enhance price hike and provide an opportunity to profiteers and hoarders to exploit helpless people more and more.

The leadership of the PML(N) examined the cost of production of sugar in the country and the stock position and arrived at the conclusion that in the situation, the prices fixed by the Minister were unfair and unjustified. The leadership decided that the ex-mill sugar price including taxes (at sugar mills gates) should not be more than Rs.45 per kg at any cost. The leadership therefore asked the Punjab government to ensure sugar supply to the people at Rs.45 per kg (including taxes) and bind sugar mills owners to sell sugar at mill gates at the same price.

PML(N) leadership appealed to the federal government to waive GST and excise duty on sugar, which is Rs.5 per kg so that the sugar was sold at Rs.40 per kg at the sugar mills gates to provide relief to the people.

The leadership was of the view that sugar stocks in the country were sufficient to meet the demand and the crisis situation had been created by the hoarders, profiteers and the vested interests. It was also viewed that linking country’s sugar prices with the world market was not justified as that had no role in the sugar production.
