For last several days Google has been putting Sesame Street doodle on its website.Sesame Street is an American educational children’s television series and a pioneer of the contemporary educational television standard, combining both education and entertainment. Sesame Street is well known for its Muppets characters created by Jim Henson.

It premiered on November 10, 1969, and is the longest running children’s program on US television.

The show is produced in the United States by the non-profit organization Sesame Workshop, formerly known as the Children’s Television Workshop (CTW), founded by Joan Ganz Cooney and Ralph Rogers. The show has been running for 40 years.

Keeping up its habit of baffling users with playfully odd doodles and design-quirks to remind them about historical events, the ‘Googlle’ logo succeeded in drawing everyone’s attention to its eleventh birthday.

Given that the very name Google had originated for a misspelling of the word ‘googol’ meaning 10100, there’s no reason to be wonderstruck at the doodles. It’s another matter that the word later found place in English dictionaries as a verb.

Founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, two research scholars at Stanford University in California, the search engine in no time grew from search tool on the university website into an undisputed giant in the web search and advertising. The world’s most visited website today amasses billions of dollars from advertising related to its Internet search, e-mail, online mapping, office productivity, social networking, and video sharing services and interestingly, from selling ad-free versions of the same technologies as well.

40th Anniversary of Sesame Street

Anniversary of Sesame Street, 2009 will mark the 40th anniversary of Sesame Street. To celebrate the historic occasion, Sesame Workshop is planning to launch two brand new books that have a fond look back at the incredible story of the world’s most famous street.

“Sesame Street: A Celebration of forty years of street life” by Louise Gikow is a hardcover book of 256 pages that provides an inside look at every aspect of Sesame Street – beginning with the initial idea of showing the and the creation of the pilot episode and moving through its evolution over four decades. The book also offers an inside look at many of the Muppets and human characters enjoyable and the writers, directors, producers, and all the other creative people involved in the legendary series. The book includes hundreds of rare photographs from the archives of Sesame Workshop take a historical look, both in front and behind the camera. The book also includes excerpts from the scripts, sketches of the most original and performance notes. “Sesame Street: A Celebration of forty years of life on the street” is set to be released by Black Dog and Leventhal Publishers on 1 November 2008 – and you can pre-order your copy at Amazon.com.

Viking Press is also planning to launch another book that explores the history of Sesame Street. “Street Gang: The Complete History of Sesame Street,” Michael Davis, will take a broad view on development, growth and continued success of the television show for children most influential for the capture of oral history beloved series. For over five years, Davis made over 200 in-depth interviews with key players, Sesame Street, to collect the definitive history of the series.
