Peshawar: 9 killed in Swabi Interchange suicide blast

PESHAWAR: At least nine people, including a policeman, have been killed and several others wounded in a suicide bomb blast at a reception arranged for JUI-F chief Maulana Fazal-ur Rehman, near Swabi Interchange, TrendPK reported Wednesday.

Police and other law enforcement agencies cordoned off the area; the bodies and injured have been taken to Swabi’s district hospital.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman remained safe in the attack.

The law enforcement agencies have cordoned off area after the incident and the rescue workers started the rescue operations. The injured were shifted to the Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar.

Bajaur Agency: Suicide blast kills 44, injures 72

At least 44 people were killed and 72 injured in a blast in Khar, district headquarters of Bajaur Agency in FATA, trendpk.com reported on Saturday.

According to details, the blast occurred in front of a Civil colony at a check point and World Food Programme building was also near the blast place. A woman suicide bomber reached at the point and blew herself up, due to which 44 people were killed and several others sustained severe injuries. The attack took place when more than 300 people were gathered outside World Food Programme building to receive food rations. Security forces and police reached the spot and cordoned off the area and started search operation. Rescue teams were also reached the blast place and started relief activities. The injured are being shifted to hospital where emergency was declared and paramedics staff was called.

16 killed in suicide blast in Kohat

At least 16 people were killed while several others injured when a bomber ripped through a barber shop located at Tirah Bazaar in Kohat, News Trends reported on Wednesday.

The DPO Kohat Dilawar Bangash confirmed the death toll, while rise in casualties is feared.

The bomber is said to have hit a barber shop.

Law enforcement agencies rushed the spot and cordoned off the area while rescue efforts are being kicked off. The injured are being shifted to nearby hospitals.

Malik, Mirza summoned to Presidency over Karachi turmoil

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has summoned Interior Minister Rehman Malik and Sindh Home Minister Zulfiqar Mirza to Islamabad to review the prevailing law and order situation in Karachi.

More than 60 people were killed and several others wounded in four-day violence which erupted ahead of a by-election in Orangi Town on Saturday.

According to sources, Rehman Malik will brief the President about the outcome of his recent visit to Karachi.

He will submit a report about his meetings with leaders of MQM and other parties.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Mirza will give a briefing about the motives behind the ongoing target killings in Karachi. SAMAA

North Waziristan: Five militants killed in drone strike

At least five militants were killed while several others got injured in a drone attack in North Waziristan, Dunya News reported on Sunday.
The unmanned aircraft fired four missiles at a house at Tehsil Shawa, North Waziristan killing at least five militants and injuring many others.
The drones are still reported to be hovering over the site triggering fear and panic among the natives.

Karachi: 8 killed in twin blasts at Abdullah Shah Ghazi shrine

At least 8 people were killed and several others sustained injuries in twin suicide blasts near shrine of Abdullah Shah Ghazi in Karachi, Dunya News reported on Thursday. Taliban claimed the responsibility of attacks.
According to Dunya News correspondent, the blasts occurred near walk-through gates of the tomb. According to Secretary Auqaf, 8 people were killed in the blasts. Panic prevailed after the incident. Police and law enforcing agencies cordoned off the tomb.
Emergency was imposed in Karachi hospitals and paramedical staff was immediately called. The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals including Jinnah Hospital. Situation of some of the injured is stated to be critical.
Sindh Chief Minister said that a committee has been formed to probe the suicide blasts. IG Sindh said that final report of the blasts would be submitted tomorrow.
President Zardari was in the Bilawal House when the blasts occurred in Abdullah Shah Ghazi’s shrine. Security around Bilawal House was increased after the incident.
The Mausoleum and Dargah of Abdullah Shah Ghazi is located in Clifton, neighbourhood of Saddar Town in Karachi.

3 people killed, 17 NATO containers torched in Islamabad

As many as 3 people got killed and 8 others were injured when 17 NATO containers got torched as some unknown armed men opened fire on them near DHA, Islamabad.
According to sources, some unknown men opened fire on NATO oil containers which caused them to catch fire. Three people got killed and several others injured due to firing. Rescue 1122 and fire brigade rushed to the scene and took the injured to hospitals.
It took more than 3 hours for the fire department to extinguish the fire. Interior Minister Rehman Malik has taken notice of this incident and has also demanded for an immediate report.

6 people killed, 12 NATO containers torched in Islamabad

More than six people have been killed and 12 NATO containers torched as some unknown armed men opened fire on them near DHA, Islamabad.
According to sources, some unknown men opened fire on NATO oil containers which caused them to catch fire. More than 6 people got killed and several others injured due to firing. Rescue 1122 and fire brigade rushed to the scene and took the injured to hospitals.
Fire department is still struggling to set the fire off. Sources say more casualties are feared.
