SRINAGAR: A strict curfew in Srinagar and some other towns in the valley, coupled with restrictions on people”s movement in other places, has crippled life across Kashmir on Wednesday.

Hurriyat Conference has given a call for a march to Pampore today on the eve of the death anniversary of one of the Hurriyat leaders, Sheikh Abdul Aziz.

A strict curfew is in place in Srinagar and Pampore and its adjoining areas, including Khrew and Khanmoh. Latest reports said hundreds of people have come out on the streets in Pampore, Samboora and Khanmoh and are trying to defy curfew.

On this day in 2008, People”s League leader – one of the constituents of the Hurriyat Conference – was killed when police opened fire on marchers near north Kashmir garrison town of Varmul, who were marching towards the Line of Control (LoC).

JEDDAH: Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah said that financing terrorist acts is “as bad as terrorist deeds.”

“This reprehensible crime is not only as bad as terrorist deeds but also sustains terror, attempts to sabotage our land, destabilizes our security and destroys our resources and our moderate approach,” the king said in a message to Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al-Asheikh, who is also president of the Council of Senior Islamic Scholars. The council last month condemned terror financing.

The 20-member council said the terror financing was a crime as big as terrorism itself because it empowers and enables sabotage, insecurity, murder and destruction of property.

The Arafat sermon was delivered by the Mufti-e-Azam in Masjid Nimra at Arafat.
Sheikh Abdul Aziz said the whole world was facing challenges of terrorism and efforts were being made to destroy Muslim youngsters. He said the world knew more about Islam today than ever before. Some powers are trying to create misconceptions and doubts about Islam therefore Msulims should unite to face such problems.
Sheikh Abdul Aziz told that faith was the only thing that could empower one. Islam is a religion of peace and guarantees it by opposing terrorism. He urged young Muslims to be cautious of miscreants. Today the non-Muslim powers are trying to divide Muslims and the biggest obligation of Muslims is to stay united. He urged Ummah to evade differences through tolerance and solidarity.
Mufti-e-Azam said Islam was a right religion and came for all nations of the world. The real purpose of Hajj is to spread message of oneness of Allah. It is because of non-Islamic economic principles that world’s largest companies are going bankrupt today. The world is looking for a refuge and the only refuge is Islam. He urged the media not to broadcast programs that were against moral principles.
Sheikh Abdul Aziz said the challenges world was facing today included spreading of ills across the globe and only the faith can prevent one from such problems. The planners are obliged to outline plans that could strengthen Muslims spiritually. He urged Muslim leaders to fear Allah about their nations. Muslims are facing another challenge of giving new meanings of Allah’s holy book. Muftis should also fear Allah before giving any verdict.

Call for the observance of the day has been given by the All Parties Hurriyet Conference(APHC) and supported by the forum patronised by senior Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, the High Court Bar Association and other pro-liberation organisations.

It was on August 11, last year, when Indian army personnel shot dead senior APHC leader, while he was leading a mammoth march towards the Line of Control in the aftermath of the economic blockade against the Kashmir Valley by the Hindu fanatic groups of Jammu.

The occupation authorities have sealed the Mazar-e-Shuhada, Eidgah in Srinagar, and deployed heavy contingents of Indian troops to prevent people from assembling there to offer Fatiha to Sheikh Abdul Aziz and other martyrs. Hurriyet leaders including Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi have been placed under house arrest.

Indian police personnel arrested several people after subjecting them to heavy lathi charge at Munawarabad in Srinagar while they were on their way to Pampore, the hometown of the martyred leader.

Indian troops have sealed all the roads leading to Pampore town and no one is being allowed to move towards the town from Pulwama, Islamabad and Srinagar.
