Six teams have been ruled out from the tournament while eight teams have qualified for the quarterfinals. These eight teams will play 4 matches in this round, after that the number of teams will be reduced to four for the semi finals. Four teams will play two semi-finals. These two semi-finals will decided the two best teams for the final World Cup 2011. Which will be those two teams? Saying anything about this is so early. However here we look at the teams and schedule of quarterfinals.

The top team of Group-A will clash with the lowest team of Group-B. In Group- A, Pakistan is holding the top position, Sri Lanka is present on second position, Australia’s position is third while New Zealand is present on the fourth position. South Africa is holding the top position in Group-B, India is present on second position; England’s rank is third while West Indies is on the last.

The first quarterfinal will be played between the teams of Pakistan and West Indies on 23 March, at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur. India will face Australia in the second quarterfinal on 24 March at Sardar Patel Stadium, Motera, Ahmedabad. The third quarterfinal will be played between South Africa and New Zealand on 25 March at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur while Sri Lanka will take on England on 26 March in the last quarterfinal at R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.

With the centuries of Virender Sehwag and Virat Kohli Indian team sets a total of 370 runs in the first match against Bangladesh at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur.

According to details Bangladesh won the toss and elected to field first. Openers Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag started the innings confidently and played beautiful strokes all over the ground. Their partnership ended on 69 when confused Tendulkar reached into Sehwag’s crease, but he was ready not for run. The host fielders had not made any mistake and little master have to go back he scored 28 runs. Next batsman, Gautam Gambhir played sensibly along with Sehwag and continued scoring. When Indian total reached at 152, Gambhir couldn’t play the swinging delivery of Mahmudullah, and the ball hits the bails. He scored 39 runs on the equal number of balls.

Next, batsman Virat Kohli and played responsibly along with Sehwag. In 48th over Sehwag couldn’t understand the incoming delivery of Saqibul and the ball hit the wickets. It became a very hard task for the Bangal tigers to win against red shirts but they worked hard in order to fulfill their aim and they got success in winning the series against the African side with the margin of 3-1.

The first match of the series between the two week sides was played on 1 day of December at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka. Bangladesh won the toss and elected to Field first and with the fall of all wickets Zimbabwe can score 209 runs. Abdur Razzaq the left arm spinner was the most successful blower from the host side he took 4 wickets. The target of 209 runs was not seems difficult for the host side but in the same number of over Bangal tigers was all out at just 200 runs. The Zimbabwean blowers did not give them the chance to chase the target and Zimbabwe wins this match by 9 runs.

After the gap of one day both teams was ready to face the challenge of each other at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur. The toss coin once again gives the decision in the favor of host side and their decision was the same as in the last mach they played against the guest side. But this time the blowers of Bangladesh proves the decision of their captain true and all the Zimbabwean team was all out at just 191 runs. Off spinner Abdur Razzaq once again gives the excellent performance and took 5 wickets. This time the Bangal batsmen easily chased their required target with the lost of 4 wickets.

The series was equal with 1-1. Both teams come again to in the same city and on the same ground. This time Zimbabwe was the lucky team that won the toss and they repeated the same decision as Bangladesh made in the first two matches. Bangladeshi players played well and they scored 246 runs with the fall of 7 wickets in the limited number of over. Prosper Utseya the captain of the Zimbabwean team was the most successful blower from their side. in order to chase the target of 246 runs the host side was total failed and the whole team was all out at just 181 runs. The captain Prosper Utseya fulfills his responsibility again by scoring 67 runs. Abdur Razzaq was the most successful blower again and he took 4 wickets again Shafiul Islam took the equal number of wickets and contributed his part. The next match was Match abandoned without a ball bowled due to rain.

Zimbabwe Won First Match Against Bangladesh

First ODI between Zimbabwe and Bangladesh was played at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur. It was an important opening matches fro both teams. Bangladesh elected to field first after winning the toss. Zimbabwe opened the inning well and scores 53 runs in 10 over. RW Chakabva scored 45 runs and he remained the top score for Zimbabwe team.

The tail of Zimbabwe collapsed again and they all got out in 49 over. Bangladesh got 210 runs target in 50 over. Bangladesh came to this series after getting series win from New Zealand side. Abdur Razzak took 4 wickets and he shacked the middle bating order of Zimbabwe.

Bangladesh chase was not up to the mark as the lost 5 wickets before 100 runs. Shakib Al Hasan scored 61 runs and remained the top score. No other batsmen could able to rescue Bangladesh. It was proud moment for Zimbabwe team when they got Bangladesh all out on 200 runs. CB Mpofu took 3 wickets for Zimbabwe and his hard work brought victory to his team. This was very close contest as if Bangladesh had wickets in hand then they could chase the target.
