Texas Rangers Baseball Playoff Schedule
Texas Rangers Baseball Playoff Schedule: The Rangers acquired Cliff Lee to bolster their starting rotation, and to add a legitimate ace for the playoffs. It would appear that the trade accomplished exactly that. Cliff Lee was dominant in yesterday’s 5-1 win over Tampa Bay. Facing the third best offense in baseball, Lee surrendered only one run over seven innings while striking out ten. Given Lee’s past success in the post-season, it’s tough to be surprised by this outcome.
Pitching Match-Up: C.J. Wilson will try to duplicate Lee’s results as he squares off against James Shields. After spending his career coming out of the bullpen, Wilson was a revelation as a starter. Playing in a very hitter friendly ballpark, C.J. went 15-8 with a 3.35 ERA and 170 strikeouts in 204 innings.
By mixing a low 90′s heater with a terrific slider and sick cutter, Wilson has been baffling hitters all season. James Shields is a different story. The velocity has been up on Shields fastball, but the pitch has been wildly ineffective. Despite throwing a nice change-up, Shields finished the season with a 13-15 record and a disheartening 5.18 ERA. Truthfully, it’s surprising to see the veteran Shields get the start over the more effective Matt Garza, but I typically trust Joe Maddon.
