new iphone

You don’t need me to tell you that Apple will announce the new iPhone tomorrow – that’s a given. But what we never truly know is when the new iPhone will be available.
Historically, Apple has waited a few weeks. I’ve been thinking June 25 or 26.
Now I’m wondering if it might be sooner – a lot sooner.
That photo is a text that I received by dialing *NEW# (*639#) which lets you know if you are eligible for an upgrade. I checked last week like I always do around this time of year and it said I’d be eligible on June 20.
Now I’m eligible now. So that has me wondering if Steve Jobs will change things up after the announcement tomorrow and say the following exciting words: “The new iPhone is available now.”
In years past, we’ve gotten wind of the new iPhone and then AT&T drags its heels in announcing if and when current customers would get an upgrade. In fact,
I was already drafting my email to AT&T to ask if and when we’d have the answer to that question. But now I don’t have to worry about it – I already have my answer.
Oh and by the way, AT&T – love the $18 upgrade fee. NOT. Do you really need to nickel and dime me now too? I’m already going to buy a new phone and sign a new contract. That said, you’d better honor the unlimited plan that you promised me I could keep.
So the summary here is mostly good all around … whether the new iPhone is available tomorrow or next week or June 25, it looks like AT&T is already ahead of the game as far as upgrades are concerned. That means you will just need to decide if this is the iPhone you want to upgrade to.
That said, I can tell you that I will be upgrading. I’ve had every model and I’ll have this one. Plus, iWife is looking forward to me passing on my current 3GS to her.The EVO was set up to automatically check Twitter and e-mail on Google’s Gmail service, but even with these options turned on, it was shocking that a fully-charged smart phone left with its screen off for about eight hours was already in the yellow-battery danger zone.
Other nasty surprises include a $10 fee on top of the regular smart-phone data plan for 4G service, a fee that applies no matter where you live, even if your town has no 4G wireless service.
(In Austin, I found the 4G service to be fast and reliable downtown, but a bit spotty when I trekked south of Austin and away from Interstate 35.)
tom cruise mtv movie awards

Tom Cruise rocked a bald head and a paunch, Sandra Bullock asked people to go back to making fun of her, and the Twilight franchise was predictably over-exposed at Sunday’s lively (and expletive-laden) MTV Movie Awards.
Though the two-hour ceremony seemed like one big promotion for the return of Jersey Shore on July 29 (the cast of the MTV reality show appeared frequently in and around the Gibson Amphitheatre near Universal Studios in California, where the event was held), the show was still chock full of highlights that didn’t involve Snooki or The Situation.
90″ height=”340″ /> Cruise gamely reprised his role as Les Grossman from Tropic Thunder in some side-splitting skits as the award show’s “producer” (“Sit back, relax, and enjoy my giant, two-hour s–t”). Ken Jeong (The Hangover) tearfully talked about his cancer-free wife while accepting the prize for the Best WTF Moment. Peter Facinelli (Dr. Carlisle Cullen) dropped one too many F-bombs – some of which couldn’t be bleeped in time by the censors – when nabbing the Best Movie prize for New Moon. And making their (world!) premieres: the trailers for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
Les Grossman was not done for the night,he had more surprises hidden under his hairy chest.
Grossman brought out Jennifer Lopez at the event and the duo worked it out very well to J.Lo’s 2005 song “Get Right”.
Katie Holmes and all of us watching were seriously impressed by the high energy, booty slapping performance.
Tom Cruise proved that he was a funny man but he also proved to be an even greater dancer at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards, held at Universal Studios’ Gibson Amphitheatre on Sunday (June 6) in Universal City, California.
Cruise opened the show in full costume dressed as “mega mogul” Les Grossman who is known for his dirty mouth. It was good to see a Tom Cruise who did not take himself too seriously. He did not even come off as a crazy Scientologist, probably because he did not do a lot of talking. Good job to Tom Cruise for showing us he still has a sense of humor, and he can thank Beyonce for lending credibility to Tom Cruise’s Les Grossman imitation.
Apple overtakes Microsoft as No 1 tech company
Apple Inc overtook Microsoft Corp to become the world’s most valuable technology company on investors’ optimism it can keep adding customers for its iPhone, Macintosh computer and iPad, according to media reports Thursday.
As of Wednesday, Apple’s shares rose 2.8 percent on Nasdaq, pushing its value to $222.12 billion while Microsoft was valued at $219.18 billion. The only American company valued higher is Exxon Mobil, with a market capitalization of $278.64 billion.
Microsoft, with its Windows and Office software franchises, has dominated the computer technology market for almost two decades. The last time Apple had a higher market value than Microsoft was Dec 19, 1989, according to Thomson Reuters Datastream.
It is the single most important turnaround that I have seen in Silicon Valley, said Jim Breyer, a venture capitalist who has invested in some of the most successful technology companies.
Microsoft still leads Apple in sales. In the latest quarter, Microsoft reported $14.5 billion in revenue compared with Apple’s $13.5 billion.
Ahmadinejad says U.N. veto power "satanic"

TEHRAN: Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Monday labeled as “satanic” the U.N. Security Council and the right of veto held by its five permanent members, Iran”s news agency reported.
Ahmadinejad, who often rails against the West, said the power of veto held by the United States, China, Britain, France and Russia was aimed at “oppressing and destroying the true nature of mankind and are satanic tools,” agency said.
His comments came amid escalating tension in the Islamic Republic”s long-running dispute with the West over Tehran”s nuclear program, with the United States pushing for new U.N. sanctions against the major oil producer.
Washington and its allies suspect Iran is seeking to develop nuclear bombs. Tehran denies the charge and says its nuclear work is aimed at generating electricity.
A U.S. draft for a fourth round of U.N. sanctions proposes more curbs on Iranian banking, an arms embargo, tougher measures against Iranian shipping, moves against Revolutionary Guards members and a ban on new investments in Iran”s energy sector.
Tehran has remained defiant, saying it is prepared to swap its low-level enriched uranium for higher-grade fuel enriched abroad, a move which would help address fears about Iran”s enrichment activities, but insists this happen on Iranian soil.
In October Iran agreed in principle to send low-enriched uranium abroad for more processing, but then said the swap should “take place inside its territory and simultaneously.”
Obama to Muslim world: A ”new beginning” has started

WASHINGTON: President Obama said tonight that the U.S. will set up exchange programs with business people throughout the Muslim world as part of the overall outreach program he outlined last year.
“The new beginning we seek is not only possible, it has already begun,” Obama told the Presidential Summit on Entrepreneurship in Washington, D.C.
The exchange programs will include business opportunities in Silicon Valley, technology, telecommunications, health care, education and infrastructure, Obama told the summit that included delegates from the U.S. and Muslim countries.
The summit was one of the ideas Obama pitched during his June speech in Cairo outlining “a new beginning between the United States and Muslim communities.”
“Over the past year the United States has been reaching out and listening,” he said.
That includes winding down the war in Iraq, working with Afghanistan and Pakistan to “isolate violent extremists,” and seeking a peaceful two-state solution between Israel and the Palestinians, Obama said.
There has also been cultural outreach, Obama said — including a comic book series in which Superman and Batman work with their Muslim counterparts.
“And I hear they”re making progress,” Obama said.

One iPad Wi-Fi problem fixed
But complaints of dropped connections and sluggish downloads persist
“Short version,” writes an iPad owner who calls himself “batzgam” in the Apple (AAPL) discussion topic iPad ‘not auto-connecting’ solved! “Raise the screen brightness above the minimum setting — wifi reappears!”
Like many early adopters, batzgam had a complaint about how his new iPad was communicating with his local Wi-Fi network.
How widespread these problems are is hard to say. As of Wednesday morning the most heavily tafficked complaint thread on Apple’s discussion board — Weak wifi — had drawn more than 300 messages and 37,000 reads.
Batzgam’s problem was a relatively minor one — but frustrating nonetheless. Every time his iPad went to sleep, it forgot what Wi-Fi network it was using and had to be painstakingly reconnected. Apple took the complaint seriously enough to post several suggested fixes. But it was batzgam who seems to have nailed it. It turned out he had lowered his iPad’s screen brightness setting. When he turned it back up, his Wi-Fi issue disappeared.
“Dude, you sir are a genius,” wrote of the many users who said his trick solved their problem. “That is the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen. But thank you!”
The iPad’s other Wi-Fi issues may not go away so easily. The chief complaints: dropped connections, weak signals, forgotten passwords and sluggish downloads.
“Count me in as someone who’s having iPad Wifi issues,” wrote TechCrunch editor Michael Arrington, one of the Silicon Valley’s most influential bloggers, who set the tech press in motion with a post Monday entitled Trouble in Paradise. “The device works fine near the router, but on the other side of the house, nada.”
“My understanding of Wifi issues,” he wrote, “particularly cramped devices like the Macbook Air and iPad, is that it’s usually a hardware/design issue and something that can’t be fixed via a software patch. I hope that’s not the case with the iPad, because faulty Wifi would make this a very unattractive device.”
We’ve generally been impressed with the zippiness of our iPad and have had no dropped signal problems yet (knock on wood). But a side-by-side comparison using Speedtest.net (a free app) revealed that its throughput was about half that of our MacBook Pro (22.8 Mbit/s vs. 10.94 Mbit/s).
An Apple employee has posted an iPad Wi-Fi FAQ with pointers to several articles on dealing with Wi-Fi issues (one suggestion: move your device closer to the router).
But the complaints are piling up and getting a lot of traction in the media. As one popular Apple discussion thread (1,132 reads) puts it: No one goes home tonight until the WiFi issue is fixed.

Microsoft plans to launching Zune HD:-
Microsoft plans to release a new version of its portable Zune music player later this year featuring a touch screen, Web browser, Wi-Fi connectivity and high-definition radio receiver.
The Redmond, Washington-based software giant said late Tuesday that the Zune HD, Microsoft’s rival to the hot-selling Apple iPod, would be available in the United States before the end of the year.
It did not say how much it would cost.
Microsoft said the device would feature high-definition video output capability which would allow it to play HD quality video on HD televisions using a docking station.
Microsoft also said it was integrating the Zune with its Xbox Live video offerings “bringing an exciting catalog of TV and film to the platform.”
“This marks an important development in the Zune strategy and brings the Zune brand to more than 17 million international Xbox Live subscribers,” Microsoft said.
It said the integration of Zune and Xbox Live would be demonstrated at next week’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles.

Google wants developers to ride its Wave

Google Inc wants developers to ride its Wave:-
SAN FRANCISCO USA : Google encouraged software developers to ride into the future of email with a project called “Wave,” which opens inboxes to text, video, pictures, maps and even social network feeds.
“Wave” expands the capabilities of email to let people communicate and work together in real-time with text, photos, videos, maps, and more, according to Google software engineering manager Lars Rasmussen.
“In Google Wave you create a wave and add people to it,” Rasmussen wrote in a blog post at the California Internet giant’s website.
“Everyone on your wave can use richly formatted text, photos, gadgets, and even feeds from other sources on the web. You see on your screen nearly instantly what your fellow collaborators are typing in your wave.”
A “wave” prototype built by a five-person team “holed up in a conference room in the Sydney office” for months was previewed at a Google developers conference in San Francisco on Thursday.
“After more than two years of expanding our ideas, our team, and our technology, we’re very eager to return and see what the world might think,” Rasmussen wrote.
A Wave software kit was provided to developers at the conference.
Wave allows for collaboration and communication by letting people send out pictures, messages, or videos that can be built on or modified as they stream from recipient to recipient.
Waves can be rewound to see how exchanges evolved, according to Google.
“Developers are going to see the potential of Google Wave as a platform; we hope they’ll leap on it,” Wave engineer Adam Schuck said in an interview posted at the US firm’s website.
“They’ll be able to integrate it with existing systems they use today, or produce new tools that allow people to improve and manage their communications.”
The computer code for Wave will be open source, meaning developers are free to modify it as they wish.
“We’re inviting developers to add all kinds of cool stuff before our public launch,” Rasmussen wrote.
No launch date for Wave has been specified. Rasmussen and his brother, Jens, founded an online mapping firm bought by Google in 2004. The brothers’ technology went into Google’s free Internet map service.
Silicon Valley analyst Rob Enderle said that while the Wave goal is feasible, building a central station for various online photo, video, text and social networking feeds presents complex challenges.
Google Wave has solved “a bunch of stuff that has traditionally been very hard” such as real-time collaboration and hosted data, according to team engineer Casey Whitelaw.
“Developers won’t have to think about all of that, they’ll be able to just build their app and go,” Whitelaw said in the interview.
“The primary ideas are that everything is live, and everything is editable.”
The Wave team in Sydney held weekly “team huddles” that evolved to include theme songs, prizes, and one member’s quest to “help us develop our chocolate palate beyond M&M” candies, according to Whitelaw.
“Rather than try to anticipate every possible use it will be put to, we’ve made it open and extensible so developers can come up with what they think is cool and useful,” Whitelaw said of Wave.
