Lady Gaga is getting a Lifetime movie bio
TrendPK.com: Exclusive: I don’t know if she knows it, but Lady Gaga is getting a Lifetime movie biopic. A casting call has gone out for an actress to play Stefani Germanotta, aka Gaga, from Lifetime. Listed as the producer is Ilene Kahn Power. Norman Snider has written the script for the film called “Fame Monster.” It’s a Toronto production. I’m told it’s optioned from Maureen Callahan‘s book, “Poker Face.” It’s not a “go” movie apparently, but they’re casting away. I’m told it’s also a love letter to Gaga, and not a’ “slash and burn.” It’s going to be about she invented herself, I’m told, and not about her copyrighted later appearances and costumes.
Here’s the description: “STEFANI GERMANOTTA (LADY GAGA) is a bright rebellious Catholic school girl who dreams of fame. The story covers her from age 16 to 22. When we first meet her she is a dark haired, off beat, very talented and intensely ambitious teen. She comes from a Italian/American well off, close knit, Upper West Side NYC family. She never felt she ‘fit in’ with her fellow students in high school and was disappointed when her college experience at NYU didn’t meet her expectations.
So, with her parent’s reluctant permission at 19, she drops out and moves downtown to the Lower East Side where the artists are. Independent and strong willed, Stefani learns she must be something more than a talented young girl and to really stand out, she must change. The story covers the ups and downs of her amazing rise and eventually to her transformation to Lady GAGA. We are seeking an actress who can physically resemble Lady GAGA (see photo) and who can believably span ages 16 to 22. Singing is preferred but not required.”
The last line is funny, because Lady Gaga can sure sing.
India trounces Australia in first Test
VVS Laxman battled severe back pain to single-handedly take India to a memorable victory over Australia with a gritty unbeaten 73 in a nail-biting first Test on Tuesday.
Laxman, who reserved his best for the Australians, played almost a lone hand in India’s run chase of 216 as his experienced colleagues fell to poor shot selection and umpiring error as he guided India to one of its most memorable Test victories. Sachin Tendulkar was the second highest Indian scorer with 38 while young Ishant Sharma contributed an invaluable 31 in the Test which went down the wire. With the victory today, India took an unassailable 1-0 lead in the series and retained the Border Gavaskar Trophy with their seventh highest run chase in history. The two sides now move to Bangalore for the second and final Test starting in Bangalore from October 9. Laxman, who used runners in both of India’s innings, and Ishant shared an 81-run stand for the ninth wicket from 131 balls and that ensured India achieve what looked impossible when they were looking down the barrel at 124 for eight at one stage.
However, with Ishant given a debatable leg before decision by umpire Ian Gould, it was a tense last 15 minutes for the Indian supporters at the PCA Stadium before Laxman and Pragyan Ojha (five not out) took India to the magic score of 216. India sealed victory with two leg byes got by Pragyan Ojha off Johnson to the wild celebrations at the dressing room and the stands.
Laxman faced just 79 balls for his unbeaten 73 which he made with the help of eight fours while Ishant consumed 92 balls for his 31. It was indeed a ‘Very Very Special’ knock from a man who who was not even being able to walk properly for the last two days due to back spasms. Each and every of those 73 runs he scored has worth its weight in gold. Laxman batted only in the manner he is capable of. The backfoot punches through the cover, the short-arm pulls, extra second he takes while hitting those silken boundaries, those supple wrists and egging the Ishant Sharmas and Pragyan Ojhas to run the singles and twos was worth a sight. But for Ishant, Laxman would not have completed the magnificent win. Having bowled 14 no-balls, being down with a hamstring injury, Ishant may have scored the most significant 31 runs in his career. When some of the top-order batsman lacked stomach for fight, Ishant concentrated like a saint to give Laxman the necessary support that he needed to pull off a Herculean act.

World Cup 2010: Eurovision left trailing as England’s songs hit new low
England fielding grim bunch of contenders to become the World Cup song for South Africa 2010.
On Saturday evening the Eurovision Song Contest reaches its seasonal nadir.
Watching its glitterball excesses over the years, I have long laboured under the belief that in no other field of human endeavour can so much effort, time and money be expended for so little return. Every year, thousands of man, woman and somewhere-vaguely-in-between hours are lost in the cause of coming up with a trans-continental hit record that might linger in the memory rather longer than a circuit of his bowl does in the mind of a goldfish. Yet in 50 years of trying, only Abba’s Waterloo has managed to achieve the feat.

However, after spending an hour of my life trawling the internet this week, I realise the annual bing-banga-bonga-thon has a rival. Indeed, it is possible that not even Eurovision can compare to the magnificent creative futility that is the four-yearly attempt to come up with the definitive World Cup song.
Perhaps fearing that the tastes of the current squad veer towards gangsta rap rather than Mantovani, there is no official number featuring the players this time round. Indeed, there hasn’t been one in 20 years.
The closest we have is a former national team coach, Terry Venables, taking on Elvis’s If I Can Dream, accompanied by the London Philharmonic, which is being used to promote The Sun on a television commercial sorce telegraph.co.uk/

NEW YORK – Mike Pelfrey and the New York Mets zeroed in once again.
Pelfrey and the Mets bullpen pulled off a most extraordinary pitching feat in this big-hitting era, shutting out Philadelphia for the third straight game Thursday night and handing the flailing Phillies a 3-0 loss.
Ryan Howard, Chase Utley and the NL champions got swept in the series without scoring a single run — it marked the first time since 1983 that Philadelphia was blanked three days in a row.

“Luckily, we were able to keep it going,” Pelfrey said.
Pelfrey (7-1) and a pair of relievers held the Phillies to four singles while winning their fifth consecutive game. The big right-hander followed top efforts by knuckleballer R.A. Dickey and Japanese newcomer Hisanori Takahashi as the Mets threw back-to-back-to-back blankings for the first time since 1988.
“I think your job is to put up zeros,” Pelfrey said. “I thought I was OK.”
In today’s times when sluggers rule, it was even more amazing. Not since 2004 had any team shut out another club in a three-game series — Johan Santana and Minnesota blanked Kansas City in that set, STATS LLC said.
Santana will try to keep the streak going Friday night when he starts for the Mets at Milwaukee.
“It doesn’t matter if it’s 1-0 or 10-0 or 10-9,” he said. “As long as you win, that’s what matters.”
Jose Reyes, fresh from giving batting tips to the newly crowned Miss USA, was pretty at the plate. He singled and scored in the first, singled the next time up and delivered a two-run double in the seventh that finished Cole Hamels (5-3).
Henin breaks left little finger
BRUSSELS: Justine Henin has broken her left little finger during training and is out of the singles for this weekend”s Fed Cup tie between Belgium and Estonia.
The break occurred Wednesday, but the extent of her injury only became apparent Friday.
Henin is a right-hander who plays with a single-handed backhand, so uses her left hand for nothing more than a ball toss, but the pain was still enough to rule her out for Saturday”s opening singles. If she plays at all, Henin might come back for Sunday”s doubles.
Henin said the injury was painful but would not have kept her out of a regular tour event. But since Belgium has such strong replacements, there was no need to force her into the singles matches.
US Open champion Kim Clijsters will open the weekend tie against Maret Ani, and Yanina Wickmayer, ranked 12th in the world, will take Henin”s place to play Kaia Kanepi in the second singles.
Belgium is the overwhelming favorite to advance from the tie into next year”s World Group. Henin should be fit to compete in the WTA event in Stuttgart next week.
Ivanovic pulls out of Serbia”s Fed Cup tie with Slovakia
BELGRADE: Former world number one Ana Ivanovic has pulled out of Serbia”s Fed Cup World Group playoff tie with Slovakia next month over poor form.
Ivanovic, who won the French Open in 2008 to reach the top spot, has plummeted to 58th in the rankings after suffering a series of morale-crushing defeats.
“I spoke with captain Dejan Vranjes and the president of the (Serbian tennis) federation Slobodan Zivojinovic and together we decided that under these circumstances it”s not the right time for me to be part of the team,” Ivanovic said on her official website of anaivanovic on Monday.
“Despite my non-presence I believe we have a good team led by Jelena (Jankovic) and this is a great opportunity for one of the young, upcoming players to play on the biggest stage.
“I know that Serbia will put up a performance of great commitment and passion as always while I will continue to make all the necessary steps to find my form.”
Although she lost both her singles in a 3-2 first round defeat to Russia in Belgrade, Ivanovic”s absence will seriously dent Serbia”s hopes of staying in the World Group.
With only a handful of young prospects in support, world number eight Jankovic faces a mammoth task of winning both her singles and the doubles in the home tie.
Since her 2008 French Open success, Ivanovic has made a string of early exits, including at the last two grand slam events, and has not won a tournament for 16 months.
Sania Mirza Slips to 77 in WTA Ranking
Sania Mirza Slips to 77 in WTA Ranking, The first round exit from the Pattaya Open last week severely affected Sania Mirza’s singles ranking as the Indian slipped 18 positions to 77 in the latest WTA list issued on Monday.

Sania’s start to the 2010 season has been far from impressive as she could not cross the first hurdle at three tournaments — including Australian Open — out of the four she has played so far.
Sania’s doubles ranking also suffered, going down to 36, a loss of three spots.
In the ATP rankings, Somdev Devvarman (141) had his ranking unchanged in the singles chart while Leander Paes (7) and Mahesh Bhupathi (8) were also static in the doubles.

Miandad Lashes Out at PCB Over Salary Issue
LAHORE: Former Pakistan captain and Pakistan Cricket Board’s Director General Javed Miandad has denied PCB chief’s claims that he is being paid rupees one million in salary besides lashing out at the Center of Excellence project in Karachi which he terms as sheer waste of money.
Talking to a local English newspaper Saturday, Miandad strongly condemned the statement of the PCB chairman on Friday in which he had said that PCB was paying Rs 7.5 lacs to Miandad and if his other expenditures were to be included, he was costing the Board almost Rs 10,00,000.
“The chairman should not disclose even my original salary under any code of ethics. But to set the record straight I want to say I am getting a net salary of Rs 5,70,000, after tax deduction,” a fuming Miandad clarified.
“Prove me wrong if I have drawn Rs one million in any of the previous months with the PCB as DG,” Miandad, one of the greatest batsmen ever produced by Pakistan, said.
“I have been staying at my own residences in Lahore and Karachi and only traveled whenever the PCB asked me for any assignment,” he said.
“What we have given to this country makes us worthy of it all and we are priceless. And if I donot have proper assignment at hand, it is because of the chairman. Give me one example where I refused any assignment from the Board,” Miandad asked.
He said he had tabled various plans before the chairman for the betterment of the game in the country, but received no positive response on them.
“The only assignment given to him by the chairman was the holding back-to-back One-day matches against Sri Lanka in Karachi, last year. I organised those matches in best manners as the ICC officials appreciated that,” he said.
Miandad said he met the chairman this week and again asked him to give him new assignment.
Miandad, who seems to be heading for a showdown with the PCB chairman, said he was not appointed by the chairman but the Patron of the PCB, President Asif Ali Zardari. The president, he added, also appointed him as cricket ambassador to China.
“And if the PCB chairman is not giving me any respect, he is in fact not giving respect to the Patron,” he said.
Miandad said he had written a letter to the Patron, informing him about all the situation. He also criticised the PCB decision of building an academy in Karachi with a heavy cost of Rs 100million.
“The city has already with an academy, where more facilities can be provided with a cost of just Rs2 or 3million,” he asserted.
He said with some investment the buildings of the cricket academies in Karachi and Lahore could be turned into a hotel where the foreign teams could stay during their tours.
“As both the academies are located in front of the National Stadium, Karachi and Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, the big concern of the international teams about the security can be solved by staying them in these academies,” he said.
Meanwhile, a PCB spokesman, while commenting on the project of the academy at NCA said: “The Regional Cricket Academy (Center of Excellence)
Project in Karachi has been started after getting the approval of the Board of Governors (BoGs) and the board also has approved 100 Million rupees budget for the development of infrastructure, the statement clarifies. The reports in media are based on incomplete dissemination of information by an individual,” the statement says without quoting the name of Miandad.
The current PCB administration has already constituted a committee under the chairmanship of Wazir Ali Khoja and consisting of Abdul Raquib and Iqbal Qasim to oversee the project. It is also important to note that the Center is an academy with five star facilities on the line of National Cricket Academy in Lahore and not a hotel,” he concluded.
However, Miandad, who is also a member of the BoGs claimed that no such kind of project was tabled before the members.
“During Dr Nasim Ashaf’s tenure it was decided to build academy in all the Regions. But no budget was allocated. And during Ijaz’s tenure no such proposal came before the BoGs members,” he said.
He said instead of starting new projects, the PCB should complete the incomplete projects first.
“One of the main portions at the Gaddafi Stadium and the renovation work at the Pindi Stadium are all incomplete for the last many years,” he said.
