Chairman HEC calls on President Zardari

ISLAMABAD: Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC) Javed Laghari called on President Asif Ali Zardari here at Aiwan-e-Sadr on Tuesday, Geo news reported.

The meeting witnessed discussion on the issues pertaining to fake degrees of parliamentarians.

According to president house sources, the sitting continued for not more than 20 minutes.

During the meeting, the Chairman HEC Javed Laghari apprised President Zardari of the procedure adopted by the commission for verification of degrees, sources said.

The development projects being carried out under HEC also came under discussion during the meeting, sources added further.

Zilhaj Moon Sighting Meeting Today

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Zilhaj Moon Sighting Meeting Today, The meeting of Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee for sighting the moon of Zilhaj, 1430-Hijri, will be held in the premises of Ministry of Religious Affairs here today.

Chairman of the Committee, Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman will preside over the meeting.

Zonal/District Ruet-e-Hilal Committees will also hold meetings at their respective places.

Chairman of the moon sighting body will announce the decision of moon  sighting or otherwise subsequently on the basis of information received by the Committee.

Justice Khan Takes Oath as Acting Chief EC

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Supreme Court’s judge Justice Sardar Muhammad Raza Khan has taken oath as acting Chief Election Commissioner.
Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary administered him the oath in a ceremony held at the SC. Judges of the SC, acting attorney general, secretary election commission and other law officials attended the oath taking ceremony.
Justice Sardar Raza Khan will serve as acting chief election commissioner till November 26 in absence of Justice (R) Hamid Ali Mirza, the sitting chief election commissioner.

If Current Parliament Fail Then Future Parliament Would Be Failed: PM

PAKISTAN, ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that no future Parliament would be succeeded in the country if the sitting one failed to perform its duties.

Addressing a special session of the National Assembly held Thursday in connection to Independence Day celebrations, the PM said that the parliamentarians crossed the bloodbaths to bring the country where it is at present.

He facilitated the judiciary saying that it has acquired its rights in result of its struggle.

The PM asked the parliamentarians not to mind the criticism by the media.

“We should be thankful to the media on their criticism instead of minding it. We are seeing a lot of criticism at present but I hope soon the media will start understanding its due responsibility.”
