Portugal rout North Korea 7-0 in 2nd round
CAPE TOWN: A merciless Portugal tore North Korea to shreds in a 7-0 rout on Monday, putting them within reach of the knockout rounds and eliminating the Asian nation from the World Cup.
With Brazil already qualified from Group G, Portugal now have four points to Ivory Coast”s one, leaving Didier Drogba”s team with only an outside chance of making the round of 16.
North Korea have lost both their games and will head home after their last match against the Africans.
A Raul Meireles strike put Portugal in front with the Porto midfielder pouncing in the 29th minute. But it wasn”t all one-way traffic, with North Korea creating their own chances as they powered forward on the
counter-attack.
The game changed though with three quick second-half goals from Simao, Hugo Almeida and Tiago that left North Korea shellshocked before substitute Liedson banged in the fifth.
Captain Cristiano Ronaldo got the sixth, ending his two-year international goal drought, before Tiago made it seven.
North Korean coach Kim Jong Hun took responsibility for their collapse.
Portugal coach Carlos Queiroz made four changes to the team that drew 0-0 with Ivory Coast, with Tiago replacing the injured Deco and Simao, Almeida and Miguel in for Danny, Liedson and Paulo Ferreira.
The revamped team started brightly on a slippery pitch after persistent rain.
Ronaldo signalled his intentions by unleashing a long-range strike on two minutes that goalkeeper Ri Myong-Guk did well to collect.
Ricardo Carvalho also had an early chance, rattling the post with a header, as Portugal set about their task with vigour.
The opportunities were coming thick and fast as Portugal used wingers Simao on the right and Ronaldo on the left effectively
North Korea finally got a shot at goal on 10 minutes with defender Cha Jong-Hyok whipping a 30 yard piledriver just past the upright.
As the rain returned, the Koreans were starting to look handy and far more aggressive than when they lost 2-1 to Brazil, surging forward to threaten the Portgual goal.
The Cholima were certainly not intimidated and could have taken a shock lead when captain Hong Yong-Jo”s shot was parried by Eduardo, only for Mun In-Guk to head the rebound over the bar.
The Portuguese came out after the break pushing hard for the second goal which inevitably came on 53 minutes with Meireles slicing open the Korean defence with a pass to Athletic Madrid”s Simao who slotted the ball past Ri.
North Korea were in disarray and let their guard down again three minutes later when Fabio Coentrao beat his man on the left and sent a lovely cross to Hugo Almeida who made no mistake with a powerful header.
Portugal were rampant and the fourth goal came soon after when Ronaldo picked out Tiago in the box and he clinically side-footed home before Liedson volleyed in the fifth with nine minutes left.
Ronaldo made the most of a lucky bobble to get the sixth in the 87th minute before Tiago rubbed salt in the Korean wounds with a late deft header.

Lakers vs. Celtics 2010 Game 1: Lakers Beat Celtics 102-89 – As I write The Lakers and The Celtics are battling out in the 2010 NBA Finals. This might appear unbelievable but this is actually the twelfth time these two teams have reached to the finals together. When you combine the two franchises they have a total of 32 titles which is very impressive to say the least.
Their rivalry is mostly remembered for the heated 2008 Finals, where Doc Rivers’s team won the championship by defeating Phil Jackson’s men in the sixth game, with Paul Pierce being crowned Most Valuable Player.

Cryptococcus gattii is killing people especially in British Columbia, according to news reports and the CDC. Researchers have discovered that a unique strain of the Cryptococcus gattii has emerged recently in Oregon, and already has spread widely there, sickening humans and animals.
Who gets cryptococcosis?
Cryptococcosis is disease due to a species of the fungus Cryptococcus. C. neoformans typically infects immunocompromised persons. Most people in the United States who develop cryptococcal infections are HIV-positive. However, occasionally persons with no apparent immune system problems develop cryptococcosis. Infections with C. gattii have also occurred in healthy persons without compromised immune systems.
How is Cryptococcus spread?
Inhalation of airborne fungi. Cryptococcosis is not known to be spread from person to person.
What are the symptoms of a cryptococcal infection?
Cryptococcal infection may cause a pneumonia-like illness, with shortness of breath, coughing and fever. Skin lesions may also occur. Another common form of cryptococcosis is central nervous system infection, such as meningoencephalitis. People with cryptococcal meningoencephalitis are usually immunocompromised. Symptoms may include fever, headache, or change in mental status.

Dallas Braden, unplugged: A’s pitcher rips into Yankees star Alex Rodriguez
Alex Rodriguez doesn’t remember doing it and Joe Girardi didn’t see it.
But in the sixth inning of the Yankees’ 4-2 loss on the Thursday, A’s pitcher Dallas Braden accused Rodriguez of jogging over the mound while on the way back to first base following a Robinson Cano foul ball, which in the pitcher’s mind violated an unwritten rule.
Braden said Rodriguez should have jogged around the mound, instead of stepping on the pitching rubber, a transgression that prompted Braden to go all Gran Torino.
Braden twice yelled at the Yankees star on the field — immediately after the play happened and then after Cano bounced into a double play to end the sixth inning — before excoriating him in a clubhouse interview.
“I don’t care if I’m Cy Young or if I’m the 25th man on the roster,” Braden said. “If I’ve got that ball in my hand and I’m out there on that mound, that’s not your mound. If you want to run across the mound, go run laps in the bullpen. That’s my mound.”
Rodriguez greeted Braden’s objections with indifference.
“He just told me to get off his mound,” Rodriguez said. “I was a little surprised. I’ve never heard that, especially from a guy with a handful of wins in his career.”
Braden, who at one point during his on-field blow-up had to be restrained by A’s manager Bob Geren, fired back.
“He’s right, I don’t even have a handful of wins,” said Braden, who improved to 3-0 this season, career victory No. 17. “I have three. Do the math A-Rod.”
The A’s lefty followed with another brushback.
“He should just maybe watch his captain a little more often,” Braden said, alluding to Derek Jeter. “It doesn’t start and end with him over there at third.”
Rodriguez dismissed Braden’s issue.
“It’s not really a big deal,” he said. “I didn’t know he was talking to me. I thought it was pretty funny actually… I’ve never heard of that in my career.”
Said Braden: “Well, now he has, you know? I don’t go over there and run laps at third base. I don’t go over there. I don’t spit over there. I don’t spit over there. I stay away. You guys ever see anybody run across the mound like that? He ran across the pitcher’s mound, foot on my rubber. No. Not flyin.”
It’s not the first time Rodriguez has been accused of so-called “bush league” behavior. Rodriguez drew criticism for slapping the ball out of Bronson Arroyo’s hand in Game 6 of the 2004 the American League Championship Series. In 2007, the Blue Jays objected when Rodriguez yelled to distract fielders from catching an infield fly.
Despite his anger, Braden said the issue wouldn’t linger. The Yankees play the A’s in two more series this season.
“It’s over and done with as far as I’m concerned,” Braden said. “Like I said, the guy’s a first ballot Hall of Famer. I’m sure he’s moved on already but I’d like to think an impression was made and that he could honor and respect the game and our team and our club and what we’re trying to do a little more next time.”
miami dolphins

Following the prediction that Miami will use their first round pick on Sergio Kindle, second rounder on Arrelious Benn, and third round pick on Major Wright, it is now time to explore the possibilities that the Dolphins have when making their late round draft choices.
Miami will be hoping for an extra pick somewhere in the draft from the Justin Smiley trade, and that will likely be in the fourth round. However, as of yet there has been very little development on the subject of his trade, so one must assume that Miami could still have just one fourth round pick.
The Dolphins traded away their fifth round pick to sign Tyler Thigpen last year, but do have two extra picks in the sixth round. Kansas traded their sixth round pick to Miami for Andy Alleman and Ikechuku Ndukwe, and Washington gave the 174th pick of the draft to Miami when they traded for Jason Taylor.
Miami also has two extra seventh round picks, courtesy of Kansas’ trading for Miami’s seventh round pick in last year’s draft, and a compensatory pick.
So, how will Miami approach the later rounds if they have already drafted an outside linebacker, wide receiver, and free safety?
4th Round – 110th Pick
Miami still needs a nose tackle, and here is where they will draft one. Unfortunately, Linval Joseph’s stock is rising fast. He would be a prime candidate for Miami’s selection in the fourth round, but some believe he will now be drafted as early as the second round.
With Cam Thomas and Torrell Troup also likely off the board, Miami might have to look towards a project at nose tackle. After all, Jason Ferguson is seen as a leader in Miami, and when he returns following his eight game suspension, he may well slot right back in as starting nose tackle.
Two names now stand out for Miami should the aforementioned players have already found homes: Arthur Jones from Syracuse, and Jeff Owens from Georgia.
Jones performed exceptionally in his first year, and posted 30 bench reps on his pro day despite coming off a pectoral injury. He was even listed as the second defensive tackle in the 2009 draft, but did not enter due to a knee injury, and his draft stock has fallen ever since.
He has suffered a couple of injuries, and this will prevent him from breaking into the first two rounds, though he could be selected late in the third.
He has strong hands, and is good against the pass and rush, despite recording very few sacks (often due to double teams and lack of speed). Miami would also be impressed with his positive attitude and excellent leadership skills.
Jeff Owens will definitely still be on the board when Miami pick here. He possesses the same impressive leadership skills as Jones, and similarly has excellent strength, once benching an incredible 535 pounds.
However, Owens does not possess the same agility as Jones, and struggles to redirect against the run. He is an excellent tackler when he gets his hands on the ball carrier though, and is rarely evaded once he reaches his man.
Despite this, he can be inconsistent when rushing the passer, and is regarded by many to be a two-down player. These concerns will most likely mean that Arthur Jones gets the Dolphins’ vote and is chosen to solve the nose tackle issue.
