Several rounded up in Orangi operation

KARACHI: A number of suspects have been taken under arrest amid a joint search operation carried out by police and rangers in separate areas of Orangi Town on late Saturday, TrendPK reported.
During the operation, all the entry and exit points of Orangi Town remained cordoned off under the security of police and rangers.
Sources said that area women staged protest against operation and arrests.
Law enforcement agencies’ sources said arrested suspects have been transferred to unknown location for interrogation.
Meanwhile, at least 10 women have been reportedly injured in firing from security forces and the subsequent stampede.

9 dead in Bannu highway mishap
BANNU: At least nine persons, including three women, lost their lives in a road accident on Indus Highway near Bannu district, TrendPK.com New reported Friday.
Another two sustained injuries in the mishap, sources said, informing that injured persons have been shifted to District Headquarters Hospital, Bannu.
Rescuers said that the accident took place due to broken highway road.
According to details, a passenger bus, bound to Peshawar from Karachi, met a head-on collision with a truck near Landi Jalander place on Indus Highway, resulting in killing nine persons including three women and leaving another two critically wounded.
Those killed could not be identified immediately, police sources said, adding that accident occurred due to broken highway road.
More investigations are underway, police sources added.
Mohmand: Miscreants blew up girls school
Unidentified miscreants blew up a primary girls school in Mohmand Agency on Tuesday.
Official sources said that two explosions took place at a Government Girls Primary School in Saggi area of Tehsil Safi.
The blasts damaged two rooms and veranda of the school completely.
So far, of the 59 schools destroyed in Mohmand Agency, 21 were of the girls.

Karachi: 3 bullet-ridden bodies found
The three bodies recovered from Karachis Malir Halt areas have been identified, Dunya News reported on Thursday.
Three bodies were recovered from an abandoned vehicle near Karachi’s Malir Halt area on Thursday.
According to police, the blind folded and bullet-riddled bodies were found in a car parked near Markazi Shahrah in the limits of Airport Police Station. The deceased were identified as Khalid Hussain Siddiqui, Shahbaz Ahmed Khan and Sabir Ali who are said to be abducted and then shot dead.
Police sources said that it seemed as if the culprits were shifting the bodies to somewhere else but the car broke down en route while the culprits managed an escape.

Pakistan needs to sign two accords for Aafias repatriation
US embassy said that Pakistan has to sign two agreements for the repatriation of Dr. Aafia.
According to the US embassy sources, Pakistan was informed that it has to sign Council of Europe Treaty and OAF Convention for Dr. Aafias return. Interior Minister Rehman Malik was officially informed about the matter soon after courts verdict. Pakistan was also informed about the issue during Hillary Clintons visit to the country. Embassy sources said that Pakistan did not act upon this easy and diplomatic way to bring Dr. Aafia back to Pakistan.
Mauritanian troops kill 12 Qaeda members in clash

NOUAKCHOTT: Mauritanian military forces killed 12 members of al Qaeda’s North African wing in fighting in the desert border zone flanking Mali, a Mauritanian security source said on Saturday.
Mauritania launched a military operation against al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) militants on Friday and security sources said the fighting was continuing on Saturday.
A Nigerien security source said the fighting had no connection with the taking of seven foreigners, including five French citizens, as hostages in Niger on Thursday, a kidnapping that France’s foreign minister has blamed on AQIM. AGENCIES
Army continues relief, rescue operations in flood-hit areas
RAWALPINDI: The relief and rescue operations being carried out by Pakistan Army are underway for flood-effectees in floods-hit areas in various parts of country on Monday, Geo News reported.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Air Force (PAF) has provided relief goods weighing lb1.5 lacks to poor people caught in floods-plaque areas.
ISPR sources said Pakistan Army has also set up Control Centers at Chaklala, Tarbela and Abbotabad air bases.
A large number of army boats, 782, are participating in relief and rescue operations, sources said.
More than 32000 packets of food have been provided to flood-affectees in Pakistan.
As many as 7000 ration bags, 900 boats and 650 blankets have been dispatched to flood-ridden parts in three provinces.
Army’s eight helicopters are partaking in rescue operations in Southern Areas. 30 Core Gujranwala has sent 10 trucks laden with relief goods for affectees trapped in different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
A charter plane, carrying relief goods including food packets, drinking water bottles, blankets and boats, has flown for flood-affectees in parts of Sindh and Southern Punjab provinces.
First convoy comprising 10 trucks laden with relief goods has set out for affectees in Southern Punjab.
PAF sources said air headquarters in Islamabad has provided ration goods weighing 900 kilograms so far.
Meanwhile, Federal Minister for Law Babar Awan distributed relief goods in a relief camp while another minister for population Fidous Ashiq Awan visited the floods-stricken areas and distributed relief goods among affectees.
Over 300 killed in Malakand floods
SWAT: More than 300 people were killed and thousands became homeless as floods played havoc in Malakand Division.
Government sources said the number of flood victims exceed from 151 and 158 in Swat and Shangla respectively. The most affected areas included Bahrain, Madeen, Kalam, Kanju,Kabal and Mingora where more than 150 connecting and six large bridges, over 400 houses and 10 schools swept away. The supply of power and gas remained suspended in district Swat and local residents facing shortage of food items.
Rescue operation of Pakistan Army is underway in flood-hit areas and 2,500 people including tourists evacuated to safety. Free ration has been distributed in Kalam Valley.
At least 480 houses, 34 schools, six large and 28 connecting bridges, thousands of acres of agricultural land and a department of Shaheed Benazir University in upper Dir swept away in floodwaters. At least 63 people have been killed and 11 missing in the floods.
On the other hand, Dir-Kohistan, Dir-Chitral and Dir-Braval Highways remained closed for traffic.
