Pakistan seeks details of Samjhota bombing probe

Pakistan said on Monday to go ahead with the investigations of gruesome incident of Samjhota Express. Indian deputy high commissioner was summoned to Foreign Office in this regard. Foreign Office DG South Asia Afrasiyab informed the Indian deputy high commissioner that media reports were being surfaced on Samjhota Express incident but India didnt inform Pakistan about the investigations of the incident which was occurred in 2007. He emphasized that India should inform Pakistan about the incident as soon as possible.Meanwhile, foreign office spokesman Abdul Basit said, It took almost four years for the Samjhauta Express investigations to come to this pass. We can only hope that no further time will be squandered in bringing the criminals to justice.

The fastest woman of South Asia Naseem Hameed, who won a gold medal in the 100-metre event of the 11th South Asian Federation Games in Dhaka, Bangladesh still awaits the flat and plot promised by Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani.

64 Pakistani prisoners freed by India cross Wagah Border

LAHORE: All 64 Pakistani prisoners released from Indian jails returned home through Wagah Border on Tuesday.

Out of 64 freed from India with the efforts of South Asia Partnership Pakistan chapter, 55 prisoners are fishermen.

Officials of Pakistan Rangers and South Asian Partnership welcomed the released men at the Wagah Border.

Arrival of one prisoner, Abdul Rehman, on stretcher raised eyebrows of many people present at Wagah. Rehman was in critical condition. Trend Pk

India-led hosts target World Cup blockbuster

DHAKA: India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have joined hands with the aim of putting on a memorable World Cup as cricket’s showpiece event is played in South Asia for the third time.

A hundred days ahead of the February 17 opening ceremony in the Bangladeshi capital of Dhaka, the International Cricket Council gave a thumbs-up to the work done by the three host nations.

“I am confident we will get a good tournament,” ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat told AFP. “Preparations have been going on well and there has been good co-operation between the three host nations.

Kashmiri leaders plan new protests for Obama visit

SRINAGAR: A top separatist who spearheaded a wave of protests against Indian rule in Kashmir called Saturday for fresh demonstrations to coincide with US President Barack Obama’s visit to India.

The region has been hit by rolling protests since June 11 when a 17-year-old student was killed by a police teargas shell. Since then, security forces have been accused of killing a total of 111 people, mostly teenagers and students.

Obama arrives in India next Saturday on a three-day trip.

Syed Ali Geelani announced a new 10-day general strike starting on Saturday that will still be in effect when Obama arrives the following Saturday in Mumbai.

Geelani said Obama’s planned visit to India has turned the world spotlight on South Asia and on Kashmir in particular.

Nuclear-armed Pakistan expected to chair IAEA board

VIENNA: Pakistan is expected to become the next head of the U.N. nuclear watchdog’s governing body despite being outside a global anti-nuclear arms pact and home to a nuclear smuggler who supplied Iran and North Korea, diplomats say.

One Western diplomat said the choice was “not ideal” because, like India, North Korea and Israel, Pakistan has shunned the 1970 Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) that is at the heart of the International Atomic Energy Agency’s work.

But Western powers are not expected to oppose the nominee of a group of Middle East and South Asia member states because Pakistan was a longstanding member of the Vienna-based IAEA Board of Governors and the choice would be within its rules.

“People are talking about it but I don’t think there will be any uproar,” a European diplomat said. “There is no rule saying that an informal nuclear weapons state

Manmohan calls PM Gilani

NEW DELHI: Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has called up Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and expressed grieve over the death of thousands in the huge floods that have devastated parts of his country.
