COAS, Air Chief visit South Waziristan, Taliban attack Ladha
Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Pervaiz Kiani and Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshall Rao Qamar Sulaiman have visited South Waziristan, trendpk.Com reported on Tuesday.
Soon after their visit Taliban fired rockets in the area of Ladha. COAS declared 2011 as the year of hope for the people of South Waziristan.
On the other hand the rocket attack took place after the COAS and the Air Chief left South Waziristan after inaugurating a basic health unit in Ladha. 4 rockets were fired by taliban but the rockets fell away from the population and therefore no human loss occurred whereas the media team had to hide inside a bunker. Security forces responded to the attack with heavy artillery fires.
Earlier the COAS and the Air Chief met with IDP’s and tribal leaders.
Talking to the media the COAS said that although South Waziristan has been cleared from the extremist groups but still there army would remained deployed in the area.

WANA: A suicide blast at a market in Shakai area of South Waziristan left at least eight people injured on Sunday.
According to sources, the blast took place at a market in Shakai, 25 kilometer north of Wana.
Casualties are also feared in the attack.
The injured have been shifted to nearby hospitals for emergency aid. Trend Pk
South Waziristan: 5 troops killed in check post attack
At least 5 security officials were killed in an attack on check post in South Waziristan, Dunya News reported on Friday.
According to official sources, militants attacked Chobara check post in Jandola Sector in South Wazirstan.
Five security officials were killed in the attack whereas militants escaped when forces retaliated. Security forces launched a search operation after the attack.
‘Friendship with Sharif bros never obstruct justice’
HAFIZABAD: Chief Justice Lahore High Court Khwaja Mohammed Sharif has said he has been having friendly terms with Sharif Brothers for last 37 years but this companionship never saw me obstruct justice to dispense, Geo news reported.
He was addressing a huge gathering of lawyers in Hafizabad. “I and my son are being victimized of a baseless propaganda”, he said offering a challenge that he was ready to get execution if proved guilty of corruption.
Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif placed Rana Maqbool – an accused of Zardari case – in Prosecution Department, if someone cannot digest that, he should part ways with PML-N government in Punjab.
People have now pinned all their hopes with judiciary after witnessing failure of governments, he added.
Death tally in US drone strike climbs to 10
WANA: The death toll in suspected US pilotless aircraft which struck a compound in North Waziristan on Tuesday, has mounted to 10 persons on Wednesday, Geo news reported.
Earlier on Tuesday, Pakistani security officials said a suspected U.S. missile strike had killed at least 7 militants while several others were injured, including a suspected al-Qaida operative, in the country”s northwest.
Officials say a drone fired two missiles at a compound near Wana, the main town in the South Waziristan tribal region on Tuesday. Foreign fighters were said to be among those killed.
It was the first reported missile strike in South Waziristan, where Pakistani troops have been battling Taliban and al-Qaida-linked militants. The majority of drone missile strikes have hit North Waziristan.

At least six people were killed in two explosions in Kandahar.
During the first incident four Afghan civilians and one foreign soldier were killed when a suicide car bomber hit a convoy of NATO-led troops.
In a second incident just hours later, a car packed with explosives blew up outside the main police station in the city. The second Kandahar blast killed one police officer and wounded 16 people, including nine policemen.

The militant leader of Turkistani Islamic Party Abdul Haq al-Turkistani was killed in a drone strike at South Waziristan on February 15.
