LAHORE: Under the energy saving campaign, gas supply to many parts of Punjab has been suspended on Tuesday.
All CNG stations of Lahore, Multan and Gujranwala have been closed today; supply to Gujranwala’s industries has been also suspended for two days.
According to Sui Northern Gas Company (SNGC), under the weekly break of gas, more than 1,000 CNG stations of Central and Southern Punjab will remain closed till 6.00am tomorrow.
The two day gas suspension to Multan and Gujranwala’s industries has created severe trouble and unrest for thousands of laborers.
CNG stations in Faisalabad are scheduled to remain closed on Wednesday (tomorrow); those in Islamabad and Bahawalpur will be closed on Saturday. Trend Pk
Pak Army helping flood victims to return home

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Army working continuously in rescue and relief operations for flood affected people across the country. Eighty percent flood affected people have gone back to their homes in Southern Punjab and Forty percent in Sajawal (Sindh).
According to an Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) press release, the Army in collaboration with civil administration are using 15 De-watering pumps to drain out flood water from Dera Allah Yar Khan, Gandakha and surrounding areas in Balochistan.
Turkish Red Crescent with help of Army is constructing 70 houses per day at Pir Sabab, Akora Khattak. Only 29,636 affected people are staying in relief camps in Southern Punjab.
Army Engineers have plugged the breaches on Budh-Kot Addu, Taunsa Barrage and Tori Bund. Army Engineers are working on the road Badin – Sajawal and Jati – Chuhar Jamali.
Relatives of LHC judge injured in firing
LAHORE: Son-in-law and daughter of Lahore High Court Justice Munir Ahmed have been injured in a firing incident in Gulberg area of Lahore, Geo News reported Thursday.
Both the injured have been shifted to the nearby hospital.
Army”s rescue, relief operations in full swing
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Army is devotedly working in rescue and relief operations in flood affected areas across the country.
Pakistan Army soldiers during last 24 hours rescued and shifted 3,200 marooned people to the Relief Camps in Sukkur, Shahdadkot, Qamber and Shikarpur besides providing cooked food to 29,500 people, treating over 4000 people through 21 static and mobile medical units in Sindh, said a press release issued here.
Army Aviation air dropped 6,000 kilograms dry rations, 46,000 water bottles, 25 tons of dry rations and 764 family packets (35 kgs each) have been distributed among the marooned people in Sindh.
Veterinary treatment has been provided to 24,000 cattles.
Army has provided 1700 tents to various Army Relief Camps in Sindh to accommodate the stranded people.
Army Field Hospitals and mobile medical teams have provided medical treatment and medicines to more than 35,000 affected people of Balochistan.
Army and FC Balochistan have distributed 45 tons of rations in relief camps of Dera Murad Jamali, Quetta, Jhal Magsi and Dhadarnital, while 35 Relief camps have been established in collaboration with Civil Administration where the affected people were provided food, shelter and medical treatment.
Army is also providing cooked food to over 20,000 affected people of Dera Murad Jamali.
Army has dropped dry ration packs through helicopters in areas of Osta Mohammad and Gandakha.
Army has dispatched three C-130 carrying tents, dry ration packs and relief goods to Quetta besides establishing a relief base at Gandakha to streamline relief activities in Balochistan.
In Southern Punjab, Army is managing Relief Camps, where more than 10,000 family packs of ration are being distributed daily.
Pakistan Army Medical Corps alongwith 14 Turkish, Australian Medical Camps are providing medical treatments to the patients.
Flood Sweeps 200 Sindh Villages, Major Cities at Risk

News Trends: The worst floods in Pakistans recorded history continue to cause more death and destruction across the country. The floods once against brought destruction to District Jafar Abad in Balochistan. Whereas Sijawal tehsil in Sindh has been submerged and several katcha villages of Nawab Shah have been inundated after Moro and Dadu. Water level at Guddu and Sukkur barrages is reducing but its increasing at Kotri barrage. Floods are heading towards Hyderabad, Jamshoru, Matyari, Tandu Muhammad Khan and Thatha from Nawab Shah.
More than 200 villages in Sakrand, Mehrab Pur, Bachal Pur, Dolat Pur, Sehwan Qazi Abad and Lukki have been inundated. Tehsil Garhi Kheiru of Jacobabad is under water when two breaches occurred in Kherthar Canal and Saifullah Magsi Canal and water is heading towards Tehsil Qabu Saeed Khan. Southern Punjab cities including Muzaffargarh, Jampur, Rajanpur, Kot Mithan are once again experiencing the devastation of the floods.
Flash floods entered into the downstream of Usta Mohammad and Ghandaka, destroying mud houses and rendering thousands of people homeless. However, Usta Mohammad city remained safe because of a protection dyke. Floods further destroyed life and property of people in low-lying areas of Usta Mohammad and Ghandaka where road link and communication system have been severely disrupted. Breaches in four canals, including the Pat Feeder canal, have been plugged in a bid to save Jaffarabad areas of Dera Allah Yar and Rojhan Jamali.
According to the data released by Federal Flood Commission on Thursday at least 1556 persons have been killed and 2088 injured, while 10963 villages have been affected so far in the countrys worst flooding in 80 years. As many as 567,461 houses were either completely destroyed or partially damaged. At least 91,210 houses have been destroyed or damaged in Punjab, 211,375 in Sindh, 178,493 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), 75,261 in Balochistan, 1,432 FATA, 2,820 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 6,870 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. At least 1,522 relief camps have also been established in all the flood-hit areas to provide prompt relief to the affectees. The flood also affected 10,963 villages in various parts including 3,132 in Punjab, 4,295 in Sindh, 581 in KP, 2,584 in Balochistan and 371 in GB.
Meanwhile, the Indus continues to flow in exceptionally high flood level with falling trend in Guddu-Sukkur reach. It is in high flood with falling trend Taunsa and in medium flood with falling trend in Kalabagh-Chashma reach. The Indus is likely to sustain exceptionally high flood level in Guddu-Sukkur reach during next 24-48 hours. Under this scenario, inundation and riverine flooding in low lying areas of Districts Khairpur, Jacobabad, Ghotki, Sukkur, Karkana, Dadu, Nawabshah, Hyderabad and Nausheroferoze can occur. The river is flowing in medium flood with rising trend at Kotri Barrage. It is likely to attain high flood level during the next 12-24 hours, which may further rise to 500,000-600,000 cusecs during the next two to three days.
Tax-free budget despite dismal economy: Shahbaz
LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif Wednesday maintained that the provincial government pulled off a balanced and tax-free budget despite all sorts of economic challenges at hand.
Talking to senior journalists on budget, the Chief Minister said the Punjab government, by presenting the tax-free budget, proved wrong what he called the opponents’ propaganda.
He said a record development programme of worth Rs193.5 billion has been chalked out for the next fiscal year. “Uplift works costing Rs135 billion have been initiated in the Southern Punjab where the critics had only spent Rs68 billion in a period of 5 years,” he claimed.
Shahbaz Sharif said special focus has been placed on education, health and agriculture sectors. The new projects envisage construction of hospitals, liver surgery, solar energy and installation of tube wells.
