johnson county texas dallas morning news hood county texas dallas news click2houston BREAKING: At least three people killed Monday afternoon when natural gas line exploded after it was struck by workers, according to the Dallas Morning News.Cleburne City Manager Chester Nolen said at least three people were killed and at least 10 more were missing. Johnson County Emergency Management Coordinator Jack Snow told the Associated Press that about six people were transported to hospitals. He said officials believe the gas line was struck with a digging machine.
Massive flames and a huge plume of smoke could be seen in the area Monday afternoon. Nolen said a company was working to turn off the gas to the ruptured line, but he was unsure how long it would take.
The gas company just recently got the line shut down and firefighters are on the scene. The surrounding area was scorched by the fiery enferno that ensued for 2 hours after the inital blast. The line that was hit was a pipe that was connected to a natural gas collection facility.
What a terrible tragedy. This was the second major explosion that happened today. The other happened in Moundsville, WV. A crew there was drilling a natural gas well through an abandoned coal mine when they hit a pocket of methane gas that ignited. That explosion injured 7 workers. The pipeline helps carry gas from West Texas across the state to utilities, distribution companies and commercial users on the eastern end of the state. Rainey said the company would work with customers to avoid any disruption to their service from the fire.
The injured workers were digging for a subcontractor hired by Waco-based Brazos Electric Cooperative, Snow said. A message seeking comment from that company was not immediately returned. A spokesman for the subcontractor, Oklahoma-based C&H Power Line Construction Services, did not immediately respond to a call for comment either.

Gas Explosion Death and Damages
A massive explosion by a ruptured gas line affected today the areas of Johnson County and Hood County, Texas. As a result of the explosion three people were reported missing.
Hood County Fire Marshall Brian Fine talked about the situation and the missing workers, saying they went missing went a work crew ruptured the gas line while they were digging a trench.
“We can’t get close. … We have to wait for the gas line to get shut off and wait for this fire to burn itself out,” Fine said.
He also advised people to stay at home so they can have the roads open for rescue labors. The pipeline belongs to Enterprise Products Partners. People were surprised and scared by the big noise and flames triggered by the explosion.
A natural gas pipeline exploded and affected the areas of Johnson County and Hood County, Texas. It was a very intense heat. As an outcome, three persons were reportedly missing and later on, one of them was found dead. Eight people were brought in to the hospital because of serious injuries and wounds. Most of them are believed to be employees of contractor.
Hood County Fire Marshal Brian Fine told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram the workers were missing after a work crew hit a gas pipeline while digging a trench. Officials urged residents to stay in their homes so emergency responders could have full access to the rural roads to the site.
“We can’t get close. … We have to wait for the gas line to get shut off and wait for this fire to burn itself out,” Fine said.
The exploded pipeline, which transits the state of Texas carrying high-pressure natural gas, belongs to Enterprise Products Partners.
“It looks like there is a possibility that a third party was involved; they may have hit our line,” Enterprise spokesman Rick Rainey said.

HTC EVO 4G phone from Sprint
Sprint’s new HTC Evo 4G, its third device to run Google’s Android operating system, raises that theoretically absurd question.
The Evo — debuting June 4 for $299.99, before a $100 mail-in rebate, for new or renewing subscribers — stands apart from other smartphones even when it’s shut off. Its comparatively enormous display, 4.3 inches across, makes it a slab of a device, wider than any mobile phone I can remember using.
That sizable screen eases typing on its on-screen keyboard and reading Web pages, although without the trackball or touch-pad control found on most Android phones navigating and selecting text is more difficult. A thoughtful flip-out stand also lets you rest the phone on its side for tray-table movie viewing.
But in return, it looks as if it could double as a carrying case for more compact models, such as Verizon’s HTC Droid Incredible.
The Evo also aims to up the ante with its mobile broadband connection. It’s Sprint’s first phone to support its under-construction “4G” service, which the Overland Park, Kan.-based company touts as offering download speeds averaging from 3 billion to 6 billion bits per second (Mbps), compared with 3G downloads that typically go no faster than 1.4 Mbps. 
Couple this fee with the 4G and hotspot fee and the EVO was becoming quite an expensive device to own. The good thing is this fee wasn’t mandatory, it just unlocked access to those unnamed premium features.
Androidguys uncovered these features, now we all know what they are. As mentioned in an earlier post, video calls will be free. Even after you factor in the cost of this and 4G coverage, your plan would still be cheaper than those found on a few other carriers. For all you lucky people that got your hands on an EVO, you will have access to all these features for free until July 15th. If ownership of this awesome device wasn’t enough, Qik has just sweetened the pot (temporarily).The trade show industry as a whole has a history of being extremely wasteful (ever see a trade show floor at dismantle on what’s left behind to be thrown out?…you’d be surprised how many railroad cars leave a convention center with trash). Exhibit manufactures, service providers, show venues and exhibitors have increased their sustainable practices with some being pioneers, and others being forced to commit to sustainable practices. Adapting the Reduce, Reuse and Recycle model is starting to have a noticeable and positive effect on the show floor.

LeGarrette Blount, Jevan Snead among top undrafted players
The NFL draft is over, which means there are currently scores of undrafted players on the phone getting offers to sign as free agents.
Among the most recognizable names not to be drafted are Oregon running back LeGarrette Blount and Mississippi quarterback Jevan Snead.
Blount missed most of his senior season because of a suspension for punching a Boise State player after the first game of 2009, while Snead made the surprising decision to enter the draft early after a disappointing junior year in 2009.
Other undrafted players of note include West Virginia quarterback Jarrett Brown, Virginia running back Rashawn Jackson, Tulane wide receiver Jeremy Williams, Texas offensive lineman Adam Ulatoski, Troy defensive end Brandon Lang, LSU linebacker Harry Coleman, UCLA linebacker Kyle Bosworth and Michigan cornerback Donovan Warren.

TALLADEGA, Ala. — NASCAR canceled all Saturday track activity at Talladega Superspeedway because of threats of extended periods of severe weather.
Track officials said the decision was made on advice from the Talladega County Emergency Management Agency and the National Weather Service, which said Talladega County was one of the areas in Alabama facing a high risk of severe thunderstorms and tornadoes on Saturday.
“Fans are strongly encouraged to take necessary precautions to ensure their safety, especially those guests camping on speedway property,” track officials said.
The Nationwide Series race scheduled for Saturday will now be held Sunday following the Sprint Cup Series race. It’s the second consecutive weekend that NASCAR will attempt a doubleheader.
Rain last weekend in Texas washed out both Cup and Nationwide events, and they were run back-to-back on Monday. Drivers who competed in both series totaled 801 miles of racing.
There are 10 drivers scheduled to run both of Sunday’s races, which are scheduled to total 811.30 miles barring any additional “overtime” laps.
Qualifying for Talladega’s Cup race was canceled, and the field for Sunday’s race will be set by owner points. Four-time defending champion Jimmie Johnson will lead Matt Kenseth and Greg Biffle to the green flag.
