RAS JDIR: US film star Angelina Jolie made a surprise visit to Tunisia’s border with Libya on Tuesday and met desperate refugees fleeing fighting in the north African country.

Jolie, star of such films as “Salt” and “Mr & Mrs Smith”, is a goodwill ambassador for UN refugee agency UNHCR and last month made a similar surprise visit to Afghanistan.

Crowds of refugees jostled to see the star’s arrival in a military-escorted convoy at the Choucha refugee camp, a transit centre for the tens of thousands of people who have fled Libya’s conflict.

“Angelina we love you!” cried excited Ghanaians, Congolese, Nigerians and Ivorians.

During the visit, Jolie visited two tents hosting refugee families and then met with UNHCR officials running the camp.

“We’re tired of being here! We want to return to Nigeria, take us with you!,” one Nigerian refugee shouted to the star.

“It’s a very good thing that she is here, even if I have not seen her films,” said Congolese refugee Emmanuel Gatoni.

Many of those fleeing the violence in Libya were guest workers from other African nations who had been employed in the country.

Jolie, married to fellow actor Brad Pitt, is known for her humanitarian work, in particular with refugees. AGENCIES

Akshay Kumar to play himself in Breakaway

In Breakaway, the Indo-Canadian film that Akshay Kumar is co-producing with his best-friend Canada-based entrepreneur Ajay Virmani to launch Virmani’s son Vinay, the star will for the first time appear as himself.

Akshay will play Akshay in Breakaway and that too because the debutant Vinay Virmani, who has co-scripted Breakaway, hero-worships Akshay and wrote the role especially for the star.

Says a source close to the project, “Akshay and AJ (that’s how Ajay Virmani likes to be known) go back a long way. In fact, AJ has a permanent room in his home for Akshay for whenever the star visits Toronto. Earlier, AJ ghost-produced some of Akshay’s films. Now they’re openly into joint ventures. Akshay has virtually seen Vinay grow up in front of him. The boy completely idolizes Akshay to the extent of imitating his mannerisms and watching all his films repeatedly.”

When Vinay wrote the father-son story in Breakaway, he not only borrowed scenes from his own life with his father-figure Akshay, the boy insisted on creating a cameo for his idol. For the first time, Akshay Kumar will appear as himself on screen.

Confirming this, Anupam Kher who plays Vinay Virmani’s father in Breakaway says from Toronto, “Akshay will appear as himself in the film. Breakaway is an emotional father-son story. I accepted the film because I’ve a very powerful role as a father.”

Anupam tried to grow a beard for the part. But finally gave up. “The facial growth was just not sufficient. So Vinay will have to make do with a beardless father.”

She sighs and apologises for being tired. ‘I only flew back from Kazakhstan at 3am this morning. I’ve had so little sleep.

‘Angelo, the stocky Bulgarian butler, hovers anxiously in his formal morning suit, snapping to attention when she politely orders her ’special drink’ – a cloudy concoction of lemon juice, sparkling water and vitamins.

He returns with the glass on a little silver tray, along with the day’s menu, sent up from the kitchen by Goga’s French chef Michel for her approval.

‘Michel is absolutely marvellous,’ Goga trills. ‘He left us to work for a hotel in the Maldives, but thankfully he came back after four months.’ It’s 11am and despite her jet-lag, Goga has already been busy managing her business empire on her personalised laptop.

It’s 11am and despite her jet-lag, Goga has already been busy managing her business empire on her personalised laptop.

The chatelaine of this impressive £28?million mansion in Holland Park, London, is reed thin and strikingly attractive, with flawless skin and a smoky voice (she enjoys the occasional cigarette) tinged with a faint accent.

In recent months this glamorous and exotic- looking tycoon from Kazakhstan has become a fixture on the London social scene.

Whether it’s entertaining Prince Andrew in her striking copper-lined dining room, meeting the Queen at Buckingham Palace, or supporting long-time family friend, former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev – as she did by attending last night’s Raisa Gorbachev Foundation charity ball – Goga is emerging as something of an enthusiastic party animal.

But appearances can, as we all know, be remarkably deceptive. For despite her good-time girl image and passion for high fashion, Goga is not some Holly Golightly figure, as one glossy magazine has recently suggested.

She is, instead, that very rare thing: a bona fide female oligarch, a woman with a pathological need to make her mark as a successful entrepreneur.
Despite embracing student life with gusto, she was on course for a top- class degree. But by the second year she was being drawn increasingly to the bright lights of London. Having fun took precedence over her studies.

When she was 19 she met her first serious boyfriend, Dino Lalvani, who came from the super-rich Indian family that created the electronics giant, Binatone.

His sister Divia is a successful restaurateur who set up then sold the fashionable Knightsbridge eaterie Zuma and married chocolate heir Joel Cadbury in 2006.

‘Dino was gorgeous and very well connected,’ says Goga. ‘I made many friends who I am still in touch with during that time. In the summer holidays I worked at Merrill Lynch as an intern because I wanted to become an investment banker.’

It came as no surprise to her tutors when she ended up with a third-class degree. She hid the truth from her parents, who were only told she had passed. At that stage, relying on her beauty and social skills – she is also an accomplished pianist – Goga might have become a trophy wife and society hostess.

Through Dino she ran with a jet-set crowd, which included former Formula 1 chief Flavio Briatore – at 22 she was photographed topless aboard his yacht – and Robert Hanson, heir to billionaire British businessman Lord Hanson.

However, Goga was no rich man’s plaything and took a job as a financial analyst with Morgan Stanley.

Then on a visit to Moscow in 2003, she met wealthy American hotel heir Stefan Ashkenazy. He was, she gushes, ‘beyond gorgeous and the most wonderful human being’. Three months later Goga had left her job and moved to Los Angeles, where Stefan had taken over the running of one of his family’s luxury hotels, and they decided to marry.

star spangled banner lyrics

4b5b4b4fb6banner star spangled banner lyricsThe Star Spangled Banner lyrics have been written by Dana Key’s ancestor
Banner” is the national anthem of the United States of America. The lyrics come from “Defence of Fort McHenry”, a poem written in 1814 by the 35-year-old amateur poet Francis Scott Key after witnessing the bombardment of Fort McHenry by the British Royal Navy ships in Chesapeake Bay during the Battle of Fort McHenry in the War of 1812.

The poem was set to the tune of a popular British drinking song, written by John Stafford Smith for the Anacreontic Society, a men’s social club in London. 68c6530f5cag 640 star spangled banner lyrics1″ />“The Anacreontic Song” (or “To Anacreon in Heaven”), with various lyrics, was already popular in the United States. Set to Key’s poem and renamed “The Star-Spangled Banner”, it would soon become a well-known American patriotic song. With a range of one and a half octaves, it is known for being difficult to sing. Although the song has four stanzas, only the first is commonly sung today, with the fourth (“O thus be it ever when free men shall stand…”) added on more formal occasions. In the fourth stanza, Key urged the adoption of “In God is our Trust” as the national motto (“And this be our motto: In God is our Trust”). The United States adopted the motto “In God We Trust” by law in 1956.

“The Star-Spangled Banner” was recognized for official use by the Navy in 1889 and the President in 1916, and was made the national anthem by a congressional resolution on March 3, 1931 (46 Stat. 1508, codified at 36 U.S.C. § 301), which was signed by President Herbert Hoover.

On September 3, 1814, Francis Scott Key and John Stuart Skinner set sail from Baltimore aboard the ship HMS Minden, flying a flag of truce on a mission approved by President James Madison. Their objective was to secure the exchange of prisoners, one of whom was Dr. William Beanes, the elderly and popular town physician of Upper Marlboro and a friend of Key’s who had been captured in his home. Beanes was accused of aiding the arrest of British soldiers. Key and Skinner boarded the British flagship HMS Tonnant on September 7 and spoke with Major General Robert Ross and then-Vice Admiral Alexander Cochrane over dinner while the two officers discussed war plans. At first, Ross and Cochrane refused to release Beanes, but relented after Key and Skinner showed them letters written by wounded British prisoners praising Beanes and other Americans for their kind treatment.

Because Key and Skinner had heard details of the plans for the attack on Baltimore, they were held captive until after the battle, first aboard HMS Surprise and later back on the HMS Minden. After the bombardment, certain British gunboats attempted to slip past the fort and effect a landing in a cove to the west of it, but they were turned away by fire from nearby Fort Covington, the city’s last line of defense.

During the rainy night, Key had witnessed the bombardment and observed that the fort’s smaller “storm flag” continued to fly, but once the shell and Congreve rocket barrage had stopped, he would not know how the battle had turned out until dawn. By then, the storm flag had been lowered and the larger flag had been raised.

Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight,

O’er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?

And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air,

Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.

Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave

O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,

Where the foe’s haughty host in dread silence reposes,

What is that which the breeze, o’er the towering steep,

As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?

Now it catches the gleam of the morning’s first beam,

In full glory reflected now shines in the stream:

‘Tis the star-spangled banner! Oh long may it wave

O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore

That the havoc of war and the battle’s confusion,

A home and a country should leave us no more!

Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps’ pollution.

No refuge could save the hireling and slave

From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:

And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave

O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand

Between their loved home and the war’s desolation!

Blest with victory and peace, may the heav’n rescued land

Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.

Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,

And this be our motto: “In God is our trust.”

And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave

O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

e1c09fbd24sprem1 Traffic stops at Times Square for Hrithik Roshan during Kites Premiere

Hrithik Roshan proved a real and literal traffic-stopper in New York on Sunday night when all traffic was halted for him to sprint across 42nd Street to meet his fans.
Amidst heavy security bandobast at Times Square, the New York premiere of Kites concluded on Sunday evening to a roaring ovation. There were some heart- stopping moments of security hazard caused mainly by Hrithik Roshan’s fan-concern when breaking all protection protocol the star made a dash across the bustling 42nd Street from the venue of the premiere to eager fans across the road.
Hrithik Roshan’s considerate gesture towards fans at the Times Square venue of the Kites premiere on Sunday evening, created panic for the tense and anxious Kites team.
The story goes…at around 5 in the evening when Hrithik along with his co-star Barbara Mori and wife Sussanne, Dad and Mom – Rakesh and Pinky Roshan, director Anurag Basu (with wife) and other members of the team reached the 42nd street at Times Square, he was told to wave out to hordes of Indian fans who had been standing on the other side of the super-board street since early morning waiting for a glimpse of the star.
Sanjeev Lamba of Reliance Big Pictures confirms the incident, “Hrithik did indeed dash across the 42nd Street from our red carpet to waiting fans across the road. And we aren’t about crossing just any busy street at peak hour. 42nd Street is a gigantic universe. Hrithik ran across a good half a mile to get to his fans.”
The elaborate security was obviously in a panic.
Says Lamba, “We had to halt all traffic on 42nd Street for Hrithik to cross. So we can finally say Hrithik Roshan is the first traffic-stopper from Bollywood to make the crossover.”
Not just a dash across the busiest street to meet his fans, Hrithik and his dad also made impromptu arrangements for about 500 fans to be accommodated in an extra screen at the AMC Empire theatre.
Hours after the exhausting and exhilarating experience, Rakesh Roshan said, “What could we do? There were 400-500 of Hrithik’s fans who wanted to see the film. There were women crying, girls tearing their hair and threatening to commit suicide.”
In addition to the 700-seater at the AMC Empire theatre, smaller 500-seater screener was rented for extra fans at the last minute.
“We had no choice. The fans wouldn’t have allowed us to have the New York premiere, if we refused. We’re glad Hrithik’s fans returned happy. At the after-party at the Grand Park Ville, everyone was talking about the new grammar of filmmaking in Kites.”

Early last month Mayor of Topeka, Kansas shocked the world by announcing that his city was to change the name to Google. We have been told ever since, how to best honor moving gesture. Today we are pleased to announce that from April 1st, Google officially changed our name to Topeka.

94030f2f20oto 02 Topeka Google Kansas
The reason is simple Topeka, Kansas. Google will be holding courses “Fiber Communities”, where the Internet giant will install the internet in secret places. The goal is that the speed Internet at this location increased to 100 times faster than other places with faster data transfer 1 gigabit per second.

Through its official announcement, Bill Bundles, Topeka Mayor announced that within a month, from 1 March 31 March city will be called Google. Google full, Kansas – the capital of fiber optics.

A change this dramatic will not happen without consequences, perhaps even with some interruptions. Here are some of the difficult issues that we hope everyone in the greater Topeka community will remember when we begin one of the most important transitions in its history:

* Correspondence well our headquarters and offices around the world should now be directed to the Topeka Inc., but otherwise treated normally.

* Google employees once known as the “Googlers” will now be classified as either “Topeka” or “Topekans,” depending on the outcome of a board meeting that the current at this time. Whatever the result, the conclusion is clear: We are not in Google anymore.

* Our new product names will take some getting used to. For example, we need to ensure users of Topeka Topeka Maps News and that these services will continue to offer news and local information from around the world. Topeka Talk, accordingly, is an instant messaging product, say a popular Midwestern morning show. And Project Virgle, our co-venture with Richard Branson, and Virgin to launch the first permanent human colony on Mars, will henceforth be known as Project Vireka.

* We do not know what to tell Oliver Google Kai’s parents, except that if you ask us, Topeka Kai Oliver would be a charming name for their little boy.

* As our remind us that brands can achieve such popularity at risk of losing their trademark status .
