KJo’s next directorial venture titled Student Of The Year

Karan Johar is kick starting his next directorial outing sooner than expected. Though he had made it pretty obvious that after his heavy duty My Name Is Khan, he would be changing gears to get into a far more comfortable zone, there were still speculations around what would be bringing on floors. The closest that one expected was a rom-com on the lines of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, his debut film.

Meanwhile there were rumours that kick-started about him launching Varun Dhawan (son of David Dhawan) and Alia Bhatt (daughter of Mahesh Bhatt). However, since there wasn’t any formal announcement from the man at the hot seat, one still waited with bated breath to know about his plans.

Well, the wait is over now with Karan Johar making it all official. He is all set to direct a young tale which is titled Student of The Year. The film would launch not two but three newcomers which include Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt and also Siddharth Malhotra (who is different from the namesake director who recently made We Are Family.

Talking about the film, Karan Johar says, “Student of the Year will have everything that I love about movies. It will have songs, dances, happiness, fun and frolic all around.”

One does understand where Karan is coming from. After all not just My Name Is Khan but even his previous outing Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna was a relatively seriously film. Though there were songs and dances in the film, at the core of it the film was about adult relationships. Even earlier his Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham had a massive look and feel to it with six heavy duty superstars coming together in one frame.

However, with Student of the Year, Karan Johar could well be bringing to fore the Kuch Kuch Hota Hai era, albeit in the 21st century avtar. Also, though he has worked with Shah Rukh Khan as an actor in each of his four films so far, he has no hesitation in making Student of the Year with rank newcomers.

“See, I may be looking at getting into a holiday zone with this film, especially after My Name Is Khan, but by no means would I not be working hard on it”, says Karan in his characteristic tone, “Yes, it’s a happy song and dance film with the tone and syntax being that of a holiday outing. Still from emotional energy perspective, the entire team will go all out to make it one super cool young flick.”

The name Shah Rukh Khan would still be involved in the film as Student Of The Year would be a joint presentation by him along with Karan Johar.

British Govt. announces changes on student visas

Overseas students in Britain wanting to stay on and look for work after their courses end will no longer be able to do so under government plans to restrain immigration laid out yesterday; where as the English language test for the visas will also be more strict from now on.

Hundreds of thousands of overseas students study at British universities each year, mostly from the Asian region, with numbers reaching record levels in 2009. The government wants to tighten controls on entry visas for overseas students to address concerns that illegal immigrants are using them as an easy way to get into the country. Immigration Minister Damian Green said that this government wants high caliber students with the genuine desire to study to come to our country for temporary periods, and then return home. An overhaul of the student visa system would reduce the number of people entering Britain to study below degree level, as well as toughen English language requirements and limit students rights to work.

Attracting talented students from abroad is vital to the UK but we must be more selective about who can come here and how long they can stay. Too many students coming to study at below degree level have been coming here to live and work. We need to stop this abuse, he added. The student route currently accounts for two-thirds of migrants entering the country each year. If the governments proposals are passed, students will have to leave the country and apply for a new visa to further their studies.

Wisconson high school 150x78 US: Wisconsin teen shoots himself after holding class hostageAccording to media reports, a high school administrator called authorities around 3 pm notifying them of a student taking hostages in a classroom. Nearly 100 police officers surrounded the area. Authorities mediated with the gunman through the female teacher and finally won the release of the hostages. All the hostages were released not too long after five of the 23 hostages were released from a Marinette, Wisconsin high school classroom, but 18 students and a teacher remained for a period of time with the gunman. We know nothing about what the student wants, Marinette Police Chief Jeff Skorik said during a short press conference. Authorities are reluctant to release information about the student or those in the classroom, he said. The incident started during the school day, the chief said, but the exact time is unclear. Investigators have interviewed the parents of the hostage-taker, but they do not have answers on why he took hostages, he said.

The city of Marinette is located 50 miles north of Green Bay and has a population of about 11,700. Marinette County has a population of about 44,000 people and typically has low levels of violent crime, according to the state Office of Justice Assistance. Marinette County recorded 29 violent crimes in 2009, up from 21 the previous year, 32 in 2007 and 21 in 2006. SRK even tweeted recently about Tom joining the cast of his home production. Said the superstar, “a big welcome to Tom Wu in the film cast. He is so humble & such a sport…really nice to have him on board.”

For the uninitiated, Tom Wu is a martial arts expert who has starred in films like Revolver, Shanghai Knights and Batman Begins. Considering that Ra.One also has its fair share of heavy duty action, one can be rest assured of seeing Tom Wu kick some butt in this flick too.
