32,000 hoarded bags of sugar recovered from Faisalabad

FAISALABAD: Authorities have recovered 32,000 bags of hoarded sugar from a sugar mill near Jaranwala area of Faisalabad on Monday.

Faisalabad’s authorities received information that a large quantity of sugar has been hoarded in Hussain Sugar Mill for black marketing.

Following the information, the authorities immediately raided the sugar mill and recovered 32,000 bags from the godowns.

The authorities have seized all bags of the recovered sugar and started to shift them to government godowns. The authorities have said that all the confiscated sugar will be sold to people at a government approved price. Trend Pk

Advocate Azhar Siddique, the petitioner, has requested in the petition that the Chief Minister of Punjab and Prime Minister both be called to court for an explanation of their provincial and federal government allegations about the sugar crisis, as they both blame each other.

MQM reminds Malik of his promise

KARACHI: MQM deputy convener Dr. Farooq Sattar said Tuesday that his party was taken into confidence by the government on the issue of price hike.

Speaking to journalists at Nine Zero today, he said that Rehman Malik had promised to brief MQM legislators about the state of the country’s economy and price hike two months back.

Malik was yet to honor his promise, he said, adding that the MQM had cancelled its plan to boycott the proceeding of two Houses over government’s promise.

The MQM leader said that the sugar crisis was benefitting the feudalists and land lords.

He said that the MQM had repeatedly drawn government’s attention toward possible sugar crisis. However, it failed to allow import of sugar on time, leading to this crisis.

Dr. Sattar said that most of the sugar mills were owned by influential politicians

SAHIWAL: The sugar crisis has deepened further in Pakistan as the price, in different parts of the country, has climbed to Rs. 130 per kilo gram on Tuesday.

According to market sources, the sugar price in Sahiwal and Khanewal has been mounted to a record high level of Rs. 130 per kg. In Lahore, it is being sold on Rs. 105-110 per kg but sugar is not available on the majority of the shops and Utility Stores.

In other cities, including Mianwali, Vehari, Okara and Toba Tek Singh, sugar is costing Rs. 110-120 per kg.

The shopkeepers of Islamabad and Rawalpindi are selling sugar on Rs. 111 per kg. In Quetta, being sold on Rs. 115 and in Peshawar it is available on Rs. 120 per kilogram. Trend Pk

KARACHI: The ongoing and unstoppable price hike of sugar continues all across the country as its retail sale has touched the record high price of Rs. 125 per kg on Monday.

The people have turned angry and annoyed over the constant increase of the sugar price and they have declared it as the white gold of the powerful sugar cartel of the country, which is being black marketed throughout the country under the nose of the government.

The latest retail price of the sugar has mounted to Rs. 125 per kg in Karachi and other parts of the country while many areas have started to face shortage of sugar as well.

The government seems to be totally helpless or completely ignorant of the ongoing sugar price hike issue while the price committees have badly failed to control the sugar price crisis. Trend Pk

Sugar price mounts up by Rs.20 per kg in Hyderabad

HYDER ABAD: The price of sugar has been mounted up by Rs.20 per kilogram, in just last twenty days, in the second largest city of Sindh, Hyderabad.

Earlier, just twenty days back the sugar was being sold on Rs.70 per kg and currently it has gone up to Rs.90 per kg in Hyderabad.

The sugar hoarders have also turned active while the poor and the middle class people have been severely troubled by this stunning price hike of the sugar.

The majority of Utility Stores have also stopped providing subsidized sugar to the local residents which creates more problems for the commoners.

The troubled residents of Hyderabad have demanded that the on going sugar price hike shall be controlled immediately and a permanent stability shall be brought in prices. SAMAA

Sugar price increases by Rs. 5 per kg in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: The sugar price in Peshawar has been once again increased by Rs. 5 per kilogram in wholesale market, SAMAA learnt Tuesday.

Price of 50 kilogram sugar sack, two weeks ago, was Rs. 3,840 which is now being sold at the price of Rs. 40,30. Similarly, sugar was being sold at the price of Rs. 76 per kg. in whole sale market that has been mounted at Rs. 81 per kg.

The sugar prices in open market likely to increase at Rs. 85 per kg.

According to wholesalers, many sugar mills are closed due to flood devastation, while the sugar supply remained suspended before Eid over security concerns that caused the rise in sugar prices. However, the sugar prices will maintained within few days.

It is pertinent to mention here that the price of 50 kilogram sugar sack has been increased by Rs. 550 during one month. SAMAA
