Sugar price increases by Rs. 5 per kg in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: The sugar price in Peshawar has been once again increased by Rs. 5 per kilogram in wholesale market, SAMAA learnt Tuesday.
Price of 50 kilogram sugar sack, two weeks ago, was Rs. 3,840 which is now being sold at the price of Rs. 40,30. Similarly, sugar was being sold at the price of Rs. 76 per kg. in whole sale market that has been mounted at Rs. 81 per kg.
The sugar prices in open market likely to increase at Rs. 85 per kg.
According to wholesalers, many sugar mills are closed due to flood devastation, while the sugar supply remained suspended before Eid over security concerns that caused the rise in sugar prices. However, the sugar prices will maintained within few days.
It is pertinent to mention here that the price of 50 kilogram sugar sack has been increased by Rs. 550 during one month. SAMAA

During the hearing of a petition about sugar prices in the Supreme Court, government presented a report of its negotiations with consumers’ representatives. Domestic consumers will now get sugar at Rs 40/kg across the country. During the hearing yesterday, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary had remarked that he was receiving complaints on sugar availability daily. CJ observed that government hadn’t played its role to solve sugar crisis.
The SC also reprimanded government for not calling the sugar board consumers’ representatives and giving one-sided decision. “Consumers are the biggest stake holders in this case,” the court remarked.

Sugar Prices Increased Rs 70/kg in Balochistan
QUETTA, PAKISTAN: The sugar prices have been increased enormously in different districts of Balochistan including Quetta.
In Quetta, the price of one kilogram sugar has been increased from Rs.58 to Rs. 60 whereas it is available at Rs.70/kg in Panjgur and Mastung.
The government has directed the utility stores to sale sugar at Rs.38/kg; however, citizens complained that sugar is not available at utility stores. They demanded government to make sure the availability to sugar and other commodities at official rates.
