KARACHI: The number of deaths from yesterday’s suicide bombing on CID building in Karachi rose to 16 while another 168 people are injured.

Three dead bodies were found in the rubble of the gutted building on Friday.

The deadly attack is being described as the worst terrorist strike in the history of the country’s commercial capital.

Sindh’s Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah visited the devastated CID building along with Home Minister Dr. Zulfiqar Mirza.

The Chief Minister said that terrorists had failed to achieve their targets.

“The attackers wanted to rescue their detained accomplices, who were not present inside the targeted building,” he said.

PM orders probe into Data Darbar blasts

LAHORE: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, strongly deploring the triple suicide bombing at Data Darbar, has issued directives to law enforcement agencies to probe into heinous crime for submission of a report.

Also, Quaid Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has strongly condemned suicide bombings at Data Darbar which killed 40 devotees and injured another 175, calling government for bringing involved elements to justice.

Elderly men, women and young children were also among killed and injured, witnesses and rescue workers told media.

Triple suicide blasts kill 38; injures 174 at Data Darbar: DCO

LAHORE: Three suicide bombers have killed 38 devotees and wounded another 174 at Data Darbar Shrine here late Thursday night, DCO Lahore Sajjad Bhutta and Commissioner Khushro Pervez told media.

24 among injured devotees are said to be critical in condition, hospital sources said adding that emergency has been put in place in all city hospitals.

Two attackers blew themselves up inside the shrine while the third one outside it before hurling hand grenades, he added.

Relief and rescue activities are underway at the blasts site.

A hand grenade has been found near Wazoo Khana of Shrine while police has cordoned off the area.

All the injured, some of them in critical condition, have been shifted to nearby hospitals where emergency has been clamped.

Data Darbar has five doors out of which four were closed. The only door kept open had a body scanner installed with it and it is still unknown how the bombers made their way inside the shrine.

There were a large number of devotees at shrine due to Thursday while ‘Langer’ was happening at the time of explosions.

Following the triple suicide blasts, furious mob also staged protest and pelted security forces with stones, which police took under control by resorting to baton charge and firing teargas.

Police also claimed recovery of two heads and bodies of alleged suicide bombers, adding that three 10 kg suicide jackets were used to carry out suicide blasts.

The situation is under control, police sources confirmed to media.

DCO Sajjad Bhutta confirmed that it was a suicide attack, and added that the intelligence office was targeted. The intelligence office building got completely damaged, while a 20 to 30 feet deep crater has been emerged. The blast was so powerful that its bang was heard miles away from the site, whereas many cars parked over there damaged and glasses of nearby building also got shattered. Smoke engulfed the whole area. According to sources, the adjacent Dr Israr Ahmed’s mosque and academy also damaged. Rescue efforts have been kicked off and ambulances rushed the scene and the injured are being shifted to hospitals. Security forces threw cordon around the area.
Talking to media, DCO Bhutta said that the toll could not be ascertained, adding that the injured are being retrieved from the rubble. He said that around seventy people were present at the blast site, while 600kg explosives were used in the incident. It merits to mention that two years ago on March, 11 2008, a suicide bomber struck the same Model Town besides two other places in the city.

11 dead, 70 Injured in Lahore blast

According to sources the suicide bombing that created over six feet deep and 18 feet wide crater at the surface.

According to earlier reports at least eight persons said to be killed and 59 injured in a huge explosion in Model Town area of Lahore.

The injured were being shifted to Jinnah Hospital and other hospitals of Lahore.

The police have cordoned off the area after the blast.

The blast said to be occurred in office of an intelligence agency in Lahore that demolished the structure entirely and also damaged the adjacent buildings.

Several people said to be still trapped under the debris of the collapsed building.

According to Rescue 1122 and Edhi sources the death toll has reacehd to eight with recovery of another body from the collapsed building debris.

That 11 persons have been injured in the blast. He vowed to step up  security measures to improve the situation.

According to sources it was a suicide bombing that created over 10 feet deep crater at surface. The building was said to be targeted earlier by the terrorists.

Emergency has been declared at hospitals of the city.

That the offices of an intelligence agency likely to be attacked by a suicide car bomb.

President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, Chief Minister of Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, Governor of Sindh Ishrat-ul-Ebad and MQM Quaid Altaf Hussain have condemned the attack.

Saleban Olad Roble passed away on Friday at a hospital in the Saudi capital Riyadh, where he and other victims of the Dec. 3 blast at the Shamo Hotel had been flown for treatment.

Twenty-two people were killed, including three other government ministers — education, higher education and health — and 10 members of Benadir University’s faculty and students.

“We are arranging a state funeral,” Mohamed Ali Nur, Somalia’s ambassador to neighbouring Kenya, told foreign news agency. “We are still not sure whether his body will be carried back from Saudi Arabia. Our condolences go to his family and colleagues.”
