NEW YORK: A New York defense lawyer has demanded that the suspect in the botched car bombing in Times Square be brought to court.
Ron Kuby sent a letter to a chief judge Tuesday that accused authorities of violating the rights of Faisal Shahzad by “squeezing information” out of him in secret.
The 30-year-old Shahzad has been held at an undisclosed location since his May 3 arrest on charges he abandoned a bomb-laden SUV in Times Square.
Authorities say he has voluntarily waived his rights to an initial court appearance while he cooperates.
Kuby said he wasn”t representing Shahzad. But he argued that since the suspect hasn”t appeared in court yet, it was impossible to know if his rights are being protected.

The 17-year-old actor, who plays Walt on the ABC-TV hit series, heard someone trying to break in at 9:28 a.m. Police investigators state that the perpetrator tried to first knock on the door to see if anyone answered. When no one came to the door, he attempted to enter the home from the rear.
TMZ has obtained the 911 call made by “Lost” star Malcolm David Kelley last week — in which he calmly tells the operator, “someone’s trying to break into my house.”
During the call, Malcolm — who plays Walt on the ABC show — tells the dispatcher that he can a see man trying to break into his home with a knife.

Malcolm then tells the operator that the perp is trying to break into the main section of the house where he’s holed up … and that’s when the call cuts off.
Malcolm David Kelley was sleeping alone Friday, when suddenly he was awakened by a prowler in his family’s Bellflower, Calif., home. The actor did not waste time and summoned police to come to his aid.
Malcolm David Kelley had a significant role on the hit television series LOST as ‘Walt’ the son of ‘Michael’. Walt was ’special’ on the show and was kidnapped by ‘The Others’. Michael spent his time searching for Walt and famously called out his name often while he was looking for him in the jungles. Michael was only able to get Walt back by promising to betray the Oceanic 815 survivors to The Others. After that, Michael and Walt left the island as part of their deal with Benjamin Linus. Kelley was hardly recognizable when he returned for a brief appearance in a later season. He had matured from the young boy into a teenager.
The shows producers have said that his aging has made it hard to keep him included in the show’s storyline. Although, seeing as there is a lot of time-traveling going on in the show, it seems there might have been a way. But the show goes on and so has Malcolm David Kelley. With only two episodes left until the season’s grand finale, its doubtful we’ll see him fulfill whatever destiny he had on The Island.
The call cuts off at a crucial point, but don’t worry: All ends well for Kelley. Cops arrived quickly at his home and then apprehended and took the suspect into custody. Some neighbors reported hearing shots: According to the sheriff’s department, the police fired one bullet after the suspect pulled what police believed was a gun from his waistband. Kelley was unharmed in the incident.
