Five days on, police clueless about Shahbaz Taseer

Police failed to recover Shahbaz Taseer even five days after his abduction from Lahore.

Police was continuously conducting raids in various areas of Lahore for the recovery of Shahabz Taseer but could not get an obvious success.
Shahbaz Taseer, son of former Punjab governor Salman Taseer’s was abducted on Friday from the Gulberg area of Lahore by unidentified gunmen.

According to police, the abducted Taseer has not been taken out of Lahore city. The police were making sketches of the kidnappers with the help of eye-witnesses to trace the culprits.

Meanwhile, lawyers have announced to stage a protest rally in front of Lahore High Court today.

Lahore: Police launch search operation for Shahbaz Taseers recovery

The search operation for Shahbaz Taseer’s recovery continued in different areas of Lahore during late hours of Friday while two detained persons were released after investigation.

According to the sources, a heavy contingent of police is launching search operation in Defence, Model Town, Gulberg and the adjacent areas.

Police are launching search operation on the basis of information by different sources; however, no breakthrough has been made so far.
Meanwhile, two suspected persons arrested from the crime scene were released after investigation and no information could be found from them.

On the other hand, DIG (Operations) Ghulam Mahmood Dogar, while, visiting Taseer’s family, disclosed that certain development has been made regarding the incident.

Dogar added that the details cannot be disclosed to the media yet as it is matter of somebody’s life and death.

Salman Taseers son kidnapped

Four men on motorbikes intercepted Shahbaz Taseer in his car in the Gulberg area and took him to a nearby street before whisking him away, police said, quoting witnesses.

“Shabhaz was out with a friend when four unidentified people kidnapped him,” his brother Sheryar Taseer told.

“Our family has been receiving threats from the Taliban and extremist groups,” he said, adding they could be behind the abduction. No one has yet claimed the responsibility.

The governor, Salman Taseer, of the ruling Pakistan People s Party, was killed by his own bodyguard early this year after he came out in support of a woman accused of committing blasphemy.

Asia Bibi, a Christian mother of four, was sentenced to death in a case stemming from a village dispute, putting Pakistan s harsh blasphemy law in the spotlight. Shahbaz Taseer s abduction is the second high-profile kidnapping in Lahore this month.

Police are still searching for an American aid expert who was kidnapped about two weeks ago.

Warren Weinstein, 70, the country director for J.E. Austin Associates Inc., had been working on a project in Pakistan s northwestern tribal areas where Pakistani troops have been battling Islamist insurgents for years.

Up to eight assailants kidnapped Weinstein in a pre-dawn raid on his house in Lahore on August 13.

Taseer’s assassin Mumtaz Qadri presented in ATC

ISLAMABAD: Punjab Governor Salman Taseer’s assassin Malik Mumtaz Qadri has been presented in an anti-terrorism court (ATC) of Rawalpindi today.

Under strict security the joint investigation team presented Mumtaz Qadri before a special ATC today. Owing to the security risks, Rawalpind’s anti-terrorism court has been shifted to Islamabad for today’s proceeding on Governor Salaman Taseer’s murder.

Earlier yesterday, Taseer’s assassin was presented in Islamabad’s court. The Islamabad court handed over Qadri to the police under one day’s remand and instructed to present him in Rawalpindi’s anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Thursday (today).

During initial probe, the joint investigation team brought Mumtaz Qadri at Taseer’s murder spot at Kohsar Market in Sector F-63, Islamabad and asked him to draw a map of the murder plan.

Punjab Govt wants to occupy Governor House: Taseer

Governor Punjab Salman Taseer said that Punjab government wanted to occupy Governor House.

Talking to media in Lahore, the Governor said that he was not going to anywhere, he was in Lahore but some channels and newspapers were presenting and publishing wrong stories. He said that he advised Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif to run his government without any fear of government fall. He said that he was surprised at the working of Geo and Jang group, and Ansar Abbasi was writing biased reports.

Punjab govt is being run on stay order: Salman Taseer

Governor Punjab Salman Taseer has said that Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharifs government is being run on stay order, while the federal government is not being given much time.
Talking to media in Lahore on Tuesday, the Governor said that the appointment of NAB chief drew baseless criticism aimed at creating chaos in the country.
Salman said that Rehman Maliks sentence had to be condoned by the President of the country while Sohail Zia was released on bail despite having same charges.
He rapped Shahbaz Sharif for threatening long march.Replying to a question, Taseer said Kalabagh Dam is vital for the country.

Pakistan would become Somalia, if KBD not made, warns Taseer

Governor Punjab Salman Taseer warned on Wednesday that if the Kalabagh Dam is not made, the country would turn into Somalia within a decade.
Defying PPP policy, Taseer urged all the political parties to get united and hammer out a strategy to build Kalabagh Dam for the country.
The Governor said all the provinces should evolve a unanimous plan regarding the construction of the said dam.
He blamed the dictators who made the construction of Kalabagh Dam a contention.
He said the construction of the Dam would generate electricity for the power-starved country besides avert flooding.

Sanaullah warns Babar, Rehman of Punjab entry ban

Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah has said that the entry of Interior Minister Rehman Malik and Federal Law Minister in Punjab could be banned while Governor Salman Taseer could also be put under house arrest.
Talking to Dunya News, the minister said, Both Babar and Rehman are trying to fuel sectarianism in the province, adding that, the provincial government has got evidence in this regard. Whenever both of them go to any aggrieved family for condolence after any terrorist attack, they openly term Punjab government unsuccessful and hold it responsible for the attack, a fuming law minister said. Rana alleged Taseer of doing all this by the nod of Interior Minister and federal Law Minister. Governor Taseer do such acts on the behest of Rehman Malik and Babar Awan. The minister further alleged that the statements of the trio, ensuing the Data Shrine and Karbala Gamay Shah attacks, showed that they wanted to stoke sectarianism in Punjab. In view of their nasty statements, I would call upon the Punjab government to put a ban the entry of Babar Awan and Rehman Malik in the province and put Taseer under house arrest in Muharram, the minister maintained.
