APTMA calls off strike after meeting Textile Minister

ISLAMABAD: The All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) called off their countrywide strike after meeting with Textile Minister.

A delegation of APTMA headed by Punjab Chairman Gohar Ijaz met with Federal Minister Rana Farooq Ahmad Khan.

In a media briefing after the meeting, federal minister said that negotiations will be held with value added textile sector on Friday and decision about yarn duty will be taken after consultations.

Gohar Ijaz told the media that two-day strike has been called off after meeting with government. He expressed hope that issue will be resolve amicably.

Value-added textile sector continues protest on 2nd day

FAISALABAD: Value-added textile sector continued protest trail on the second day today against the thread export, Geo News reported Wednesday.

According to Value-added Textile Forum’s regional Chairman Khurram Mukhtar, federal cabinet’s textile committee called a meeting today to mull over the demands of value-added textile sector.

According to Khurram, the meeting will recommend ban on thread export in view of hardships faced by the Value-added sector.

Seeing the notice taken by the federal cabinet, the industrialists and labourers of value-added sector decided not to come on streets, as they will wait for the decision of Textile Committee.

According to Khurram, protests would be organized in case no steps are taken to save Value-added sector and even civil disobedience movement is on the cards.

Meantime, the protest camps of labourers are still set up intact outside Value-added textile mills against the export of thread.

Govt asked to ban yarn export

KARACHI: The Value-added Textile Sector Tuesday decided to continue its strike against the yarn crisis

Addressing a news conference here, Javed Bilwani, chief coordinator of the value-added textile sector, said that cotton production was very low across the world this year. As a result, all other countries, including India put a ban on its yarn export.

However, he said Pakistan continued to export its valuable raw yarn, taking the situation to an alarming stage for value-added textile sector.

Bilwani threatened to shut the value-added textile sector if the government did not immediately ban the yarn export.

Textile’s value-added sector on strike against price hike

FAISALABAD: Value-added Textile sector is on strike today against the export of yarn and cotton from the country, posing loss of exports worth millions of rupees, Geo News reported Tuesday.

An association of Value-added textile comprising the associations of towels manufacturers, fashion garments, hosiery, apparel, bedware and readymade garments, announced to go on strike for an unspecified time against the export of yarn and thread and hike in their prices.

Chief coordinator of value-added sector Javed Balwani said not even a single container with value-added textile sector products will be exported, warning if the government does not cave in to the demands, then strike will continue for an indefinite time.

The cotton’s per maund price burgeoned 106 percent in the last season and also the yarn price ballooned 80 percent.

Meantime, the cotton exports surged 144 percent during the first nine months of the current fiscal year and 29 percent raise in yarn exports has been recorded.
