Karachi target killings: 4 accused remanded in police custody
A local court in Karachi has remanded four accused including former police official in police custody till October 27 in target killing report. CID police presented police official Bilal Farooqi, Asad, Hanif and Babar in the court of Judicial Magistrate Sara Junejo in the hearing of target killing case against them. Police had requested 14-day physical remand of the accused but the court giving 4-day remand directed the police to submit challan in the court on time after the completion of investigation.
WB asks Pakistan to stop construction of flood-hit roads
The World Bank has asked Pakistan to put on hold the construction of flood-affected roads till the completion of damage estimate.
The meeting of Senates Standing Committee for Communication was presided over by Wali Muhammad Badeeni. Communication Ministry officials while giving briefing told that a report of the Wolrd Bank had estimated the total damage to roads at Rs 22 billion.
The WB has said that funds would not be provided before the completion of damage estimate. Communication Minister Arbab Alamgir has said that construction of Chakdara bridge will cost Rs 45 crore. He said that construction of the bridge would be started if Asian Development Bank didnt reply in a week.
Premature to say anything about Imrans murder: Sattar
MQM leader Farooq Sattar said that it would be premature to say anything about Imran Farooqs murder before the completion of investigations. Talking to media in Karachi, he said that Imran Farooqs murder has created vacuum in the party which would be difficult to fill. He said that Altaf Hussain has directed party members and activists to avoid violence. He said that British High Commissioner has assured full support and matters will be cleared after the investigation into Imrans killing. He said that MQMs journey to become national party will remain continued. He said that dead body of Imran would be taken back to Pakistan.
SC orders demolition of constructions in Islamabad Park
ISLAMABAD: A three-member Supreme Court (SC) bench has ordered demolition of illegal construction of commercial buildings in F-9 Park, also known as Fatima Jinnah Park.
The bench comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justices Ghulam Rabbani and Khalilur Rehman Ramday gave its ruling in a case filed against constructions built inside the Fatima Jinnah Park in violation of the court’s 2006 verdict banning all commercial ventures in public parks.
The apex court had reserved the decision last month at the completion of the hearing. In its verdict on Friday, court has ordered demolition of multinational fast food chain outlet and leisure club built within the premises of the park.
The court has also accepted the apology of restaurant’s owner Ameen Lakhani for his remarks about Supreme Court and ordered that owners of these buildings will demolish the structures within three months on their own expenses.
The apex court also directed legal action against former chairman CDA and present secretary petroleum Kamrab Lashari for giving permission for construction.
Shahbaz for stern action against plunderers
LAHORE: Punjab’s Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said Sunday that those who robbed national resources and development funds worth billions of rupees deserve to have exemplary punishment.
Speaking to media after reviewing the construction work of Rang Road project here, he said those who looted earning of the laborers, workers, if sent to jail by the previous government, must have realized the intensity of crimes they had committed.
Besides, the chief minister also apprised the media about the completion time of ongoing development projects.
Sloganeers of ‘Roti, Kapra, Makan’ failed to deliver: Altaf
KARACHI: Chief of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Altaf Hussain Sunday said those who chanted slogan of Roti, Kapra aur Makan’ (food, clothing and shelter) have given nothing to the people in past 62 years.
In his telephonic address to the convention held simultaneously in Lahore, Multan and Rawalpindi, Altaf Hussain urged the people of Punjab to maintain order as ‘MQM has made its way to Punjab’.
He said today people have converged here to save Pakistan which suffers from dual system of education and where children of the poor are made to sit on ground in yellow schools in the absence of chairs.
The MQM Chief said the masses continue to be subjected to atrocities for the last 62 years. He said actually “it our fault who cast vote in favour of defaulters of enormous debts,” asking, “Why do people of Punjab keep voting for plunderers and looters who have been tried before?”
He said the people will have to make a pledge not to support thieves. “It is Allah Almighty who has all the power to decide as to who gets respect and who gets humiliated,” he said citing Quranic verses.
Altaf Hussain said MQM has made its way to Punjab despite all the hurdles put in its way. “MQM is here to paint faces of thieves and looters in black and walk them in streets,” he warned.

Defiant DSP Moves LHC Against Suspension
The suspended DSP filed a writ petition in Lahore High Court for initiating judicial inquiry against his seniors.
DSP Imran Babar requested in the application that judicial inquiry be initiated against the accused. He said that he was pressurized to release the held terrorists who belonged to Afghanistan.
He requested to halt his suspension till the completion of judicial inquiry. Talking to media, DSP said that he did not accuse SP CIA Umar Virk, and urged the public to move the court against police highhandedness.
