Degrees of 2 more MNAs, 2 MPAs, senator declared fake
ISLAMABAD: Higher Education Commission (HEC) has declared invalid the degrees of two federal ministers Israrullah Zehri and Humayun Aziz, as they received the education leading to the obtainment of the degrees from ‘non-chartered universities’.
The HEC received 70 degrees from 9 universities and Madaris after scrutiny.
Haleem Adil Shaikh slams PA resolution against media
KARACHI: General Secretary Pakistan Muslim League-Q Haleem Adil Shaikh Friday vehemently condemned the adoption of resolution against media by the Punjab Assembly.
In a statement, he said media is playing role of an active opposition by representing the poor and downtrodden segments of the society and this, he added, has scared the two ruling parties.
Haleem Adil Shaikh said the recent move has lifted the veil from the face of Pakistan Muslim League-N, which raised vociferous slogans in favour of free media in the past.
“Opposition, as a norm, represents the people but here the N-League has become Team-B of the government.”
Punjab govt withdraws notification of changes in Nikkah Nama
LAHORE: Government of Punjab has withdrawn notification, introducing a number of changes in Nikkah Nama.
Earlier, the notification had introduced 8 amendments in the Nikkah Nama, making mandatory the affixing of photos of the couple, inclusion of verified dates of birth, blood groups, medical check ups and mark of identifications besides signatures of the parents as witnesses.
Abnormal baby abandoned by parents
QUETTA: An unknown couple took an abnormal baby to Bolan Medical Complex today and left during the treatment.
According to hospital sources, the couple went missing when the baby was being treated. Baby’s brain was outside its head and according to doctors, it happens due to deficiency of folic acid in mothers.
Dr Noor, in charge children ward, said efforts were being made to save the baby but it might not survive.
Another petition filed against Shoaib
LAHORE: One more petition has been filed against Shoaib Malik and Sania Mirza here in the Lahore High Court on Monday.
Petition accused Malik of violating various government rules.
Hasan Sheraz, who filed a petition in the Lahore High Court, alleged that Shoaib violated the government”s ban on serving more than one dish at marriage functions, which was a rule that was introduced as part of the austerity drive.
He also said that Malik needs to be punished for letting his reception function go beyond 10 pm, which was in violation of a government”s order which enforces a 10 pm-curfew on such functions.
Reports of hosting dinner by PM to Shoania baseless: Spokesman
ISLAMABAD: The government has termed a news item about hosting of private dinner by Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani for the newly wed couple Shoaib Malik and Sania Mirza in the Prime Minister House as fabricated and baseless.
A spokesman of the Prime Minister House in a statement issued here Monday termed the news item published in a section of the press mere figment of imagination.
He said that the Prime Minister neither met the couple nor hosted a dinner.
Shoania meet Indian HC, Shoaib’s visa extended for one year
ISLAMABAD: Newly-wed star couple Sania Mirza and Shoaib Malik today met Indian High Commissioner Sharat Sabharwal, following which the Pakistani cricketer was granted one year visa extension.
Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Malik and his wife Indian tennis star Sania Mirza arrived here last night along with her mother Nasim Mirza.
They were taken amid tight security from hotel to the Indian High commission where they met with the High Commissioner. This meeting was arranged on the request from Sania.
During the brief meeting, the couple requested the High Commissioner to extend the visa of Shoaib which was valid till June 24, officials said.
Shoaib”s visa was later granted an extension of one year and includes cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Hyderabad.
Sania”s mother Naseema Mirza accompanied the couple to the Indian mission. Sania had sought the meeting yesterday.
During the meeting Sabharwal wished them well and hoped they would have a “long and happy married life”, Indian High Commission spokesman Siddharth Zutshi said.
The Indian envoy, however, has not hosted any reception for the couple, the officials said.
The high-profile couple arrived in Pakistan yesterday to a frenzied reception, with the federal government according them the status of “state guests”.
After flying into Karachi from Mumbai yesterday afternoon after their wedding on April 12, the couple arrived in the federal capital last evening.
The couple and their entourage were received by senior police and civil officials at Benazir Bhutto airport in Rawalpindi and driven to Serena Hotel in Islamabad.
While airing reports on the couple, Geo News channel ran a ticker that read, “Welcome Sania-Shoaib”.
The security arrangements put in place for the couple”s drive from the airport in Rawalpindi to Islamabad were akin to those made for VVIPs like the Prime Minister and President, and outsiders were barred from the Serena by the hotel”s management.
