US celebrates 235th Independence Day

The day will begin in various cities including Washington DC with a parade. In the evening display of fireworks would mark the day.

All over the world the US embassies will celebrate the day. A grand ceremony will take place near the Statue of Liberty in New York.

Indian Met office predicts light rain in Mohali

MOHALI: The Meteorological Department of India has predicted clouds in Mohali with a possibility of light rain by the evening on Wednesday.

The rain can spoil the eagerly awaited World Cup semifinal between arch-rivals Pakistan and India.

“A partly cloudy sky will prevail in the Mohali region on Wednesday. Thunderstorms and dust-storms along with light rain, by the evening, could also prevail in various parts of this region on tomorrow. Similar conditions are prevailing in this region for the last 24-hours,” NDTV quoted a Met official saying.

Sri Lanka opt to bat

DAMBULLA: Kumar Sangakkara won the toss and decided to bat against Bangladesh in Dambulla, where the pitch does a bit in the evening, making chasing under the less-than-ideal floodlights harder.

Obama arrives in China

SHANGHAI: U.S. President Barack Obama arrived in China on Sunday, taking his push to energise ties with Asia to the region’s emerging super-power and world’s third biggest economy.

Late in the evening local time, Obama landed in a rainy Shanghai, eastern China’s coastal commercial hub, where he is due to meet city officials and hold a “town hall” session with young people on Monday, before heading on to Beijing. Obama had no meetings or events scheduled for Sunday.

The U.S. President’s talks in Beijing with President Hu Jintao and officials will cover sometimes tense economic ties, international trouble-spots such as North Korea and Iran, and international efforts to fight climate change.
