Shahzain Bugti bail plea hearing put off

QUETTA: Balcohistan High Court (BHC) adjourned on Tuesday the hearing of a bail plea filed by detained Baloch leader Nawabzada Shahzain Bugti in illegal arms case.

The court will now resume the hearing on Wednesday.

The counsel for Jamhori Watan Party (JWP) leader Shahzain Bugti had submitted the bail plea in BHC on Monday.

During the hearing, Prosecutor General sought more time to study the case, saying he did not get the relevant record.

The court then adjourned the hearing for one day.

Later, Bugti’s lawyer told newsmen that his client is a patient of blood pressure and that his bail denial could pose a life threat. TrendPK

NHA chairman, aides held from Karachi court

KARACHI: The chairman of National Highway Authority (NHA) along with his aides have been arrested from the court premises on the orders of the Additional District and Sessions Judge Saturday.

The contractor and another man managed to escape.

This happened during the hearing of Shershah Bridge case. The court was requested for the bail of the involved men in the case but court ordered police to arrest them instead of granting bail to them.

SC forms full bench to hear judges notification reports

ISLAMABAD: Taking notice of some media reports about the government’s plan to revoke the notification of judges reinstatement, the Supreme Court constituted a 17-member bench to hear the issue today (Friday).

The bench was formed in a hurriedly-called meeting by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry late Thursday night.

The apex court also summoned the Attorney General to explain the matter.

In addition, the Supreme Court will resume the hearing of the 18th Amendment case.

A statement issued by the Supreme Court said that the notification of judges restoration cannot be withdrawn. SAMAA

LHC opens one way proceeding against President’s two designations

LAHORE: The High Court of Lahore has began a one way proceeding against President Asif Ali Zardari’s two offices which he simultaneously holds.

During the hearing, the court repeatedly called for the Attorney General and Secretary of Law for arguments, but they did not appear.

Later on, the court started a one way proceeding and appointed Abdul Hafiz Pirzada, S.M. Zafar and Abid Hassan Manto as the court’s aids to provide assistance in the case.

After completing initial proceedings, Lahore High Court adjourned the hearing till October 21. SAMAA

Chile: 60 more days for investigation of Saif-ur-Rehman case

The court of Chile has extended a 60 day period for the investigation of Saif-ur-Rehman case. Saif is Pakistani student who was arrested in Chile for charges of terrorist activities.
In the hearing of Saif-ur-Rehman case held in Santiago, he was given permission to travel within Chile; however still not allowed to go out of the country. At this occasion, Saifs lawyer told that the investigation authorities were not able to provide any evidence against him in 120 days. Saif was arrested some months ago for charges of terrorist activities.

Degree of PML-Q MNA challenged

LAHORE: The bachelor’s degree of PML (Q) member of National Assembly Khadim Hussain Watto has been challenged in Lahore High Court.

The petitioner challenged the degree of Khadim Hussain Watto MNA, elected from NA 118-Bahawalnagar, has contended that the name of the MNA in the degree submitted with the election commission has been different from his real name and the roll number and registration number were also not written on the document.

The court summoned reply from Khadim Hussain Watto and adjourned the hearing of the case till August 04.

LHC dismisses objections in dual office case

LAHORE: Lahore High Court rejected government objections in the President”s dual office case on Monday.

The government counsels challenged the jurisdiction of the court in hearing of the petition filed in Lahore High Court against President”s holding of dual offices. The counsels said that the high court has no jurisdiction to hear the case.

Justice Ijaz Chaudhry, the head judge of the five-member bench, turned down the government objections.

The court adjourned the hearing of the case till July 07.

Parliament has authority to amend Constitution: Wasim

ISLAMABAD: Government counsel Wasim Sajjad has said that the Parliament enjoys full authority to make Constitutional amendments.

He was talking to media outside the Supreme Court in connection with the hearing of petitions against the 18th amendment in the Supreme Court.

Wasim Sajjad said none of the constitutional amendments made till today in Pakistan was annulled by the Supreme Court by declaring it against the basic structure of the Constitution. “Even the basic structure of the Parliament is to be determined by the Parliament,” he added.

PCB lifts ban on Shoaib Malik

The Pakistan Cricket Board arbitrator has lifted a one-year ban on former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik, and halved the fine to Rs 1million.
Malik’s appeal was partially accepted, in that his ban was lifted and his fine of Rs 2 million was halved, by arbitrator during the hearing on Saturday. Malik had been banned for a year because of disciplinary issues after an inquiry into Pakistan’s Australia tour in 2009-10, where they lost every game.
Malik is among six players who have appealed against the fines and suspensions.The selectors have already included Malik among 35 probables for next month’s Asia Cup and twin Test series against Australia and England. Younis Khans case has been put off for a week.

Dual office case: LHC issues notice to President

The Lahore High Court (LHC) Monday issued a notice to President Asif Ali Zardari in the dual office case.
During the hearing of dual office case, Deputy Attorney General told the court that in the petition President Zardari, Bilawal Bhutto, PM Gilani and Speaker National Assembly are made a party, and added that the notice were issued to the federation.Expressing displeasure over this, Justice Umar Ata Bandial addressed the DAG representing the federation you must know that president is the symbol of federation.The court said that the notice should be implemented via the presidents principal secretary. The court adjourned the hearing till May 27.
