ISLAMABAD: Federal Finance Minister Dr. Abdul Hafiz Sheikh on Friday said that more taxes needed to be imposed on capitalists, feudalists and owners of large properties to ensure provision of basic services to people.
Speaking to the media in Islamabad, he said an agreement has been reached with all four regarding the imposition of reformed GST.

TEHRAN: Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Monday he was ready for “face-to-face” talks with his US counterpart Barack Obama on issues concerning the international community.
“We are hopefully coming for the UN assembly,” Ahmadinejad said in an address to expatriate Iranians, which was broadcast live, on state television.
“We are ready to sit down with Mr Obama face-to-face and put the global issues on the table, man-to-man, freely, and in front of the media and see whose solutions are better.”
Ahmadinejad is expected to travel to New York for the UN General Assembly meeting next month.
Power outages continue despite zero shortfall
LAHORE: The spell of power outages continued with no sign of letting up despite the power shortfall narrowed to zero as a result of downpours across the country, Geo News reported Tuesday.
According to Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO), the improved weather conditions equaled the power demand and supply at 13496 Megawatts without any shortfall with 670 MWs being supplied to Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC).
The spokesman said the total power production include 5420 MW poured from hydal, 2116 MW from thermal, 5906 MWs from IPPs and Rental accounts for 58 percent of the total volume of electricity.
The spokesman further told the load shedding is not being carried out overnight in both industrial and domestic sectors and new schedule would be issued if needed.
Despite this, the spate of tripping continued in nearly all small and large cities including Lahore. And, it is quite unpredictable when power would go and return. The people demanded to put an end to this unannounced tripping spree.
PA adopts pro media resolution
LAHORE: After receiving huge condemnation from all sections of the society for its anti media resolution Punjab Assembly today adopted a resolution in favour of media, Geo News reported Tuesday.
The motion was moved by Law Minister Rana Sanaullah. PML-Q MPA Amir Sultan Cheema pointed out about the lack of quorum, which was rejected.
Punjab Assembly Friday unanimously passed a resolution condemning the media of “irresponsibility that is damaging the democracy.”
