Int’l community must back Pak in war on terror: Malik

Interior Minister Rehman Malik reiterated that Pakistan is a front line state in the war on terror. He said that Pakistan has given numerous sacrifices in the war on behalf of the global community.
Malik was addressing from media in Islamabad where he urged that media and political forces should work jointly to tackle issues and problems confronting the country. He said Pakistan Army wont back away an inch and would sacrifice everything for the security and sovereignty of the country.
Malik informed that the flood relief efforts are being carried out along the lines of NADRA record. He maintained that complete transparency will be ensured. He was of the view that strict action will be taken against those found guilty of committing fraud. He condemned that still arms are being smuggled from the neighboring countries.

Local stocks end up; Index closes at 10,201 points

KARACHI: Stocks at Karachi Stock Exchange rose on thin trade on Monday amid hopes of strong corporate results while dealers said investors were waiting for the introduction of a leverage product in the market.

The Karachi Stock Exchange”s benchmark 100-share index, ended 0.47 percent, or 48 points, higher at 10,201.85points on turnover of 67.79 million shares.

“Investors are accumulating selective shares on hopes of healthy profits but volumes will only increase once a leverage product is introduced,” said Sajid Bhanji, a dealer at Arif Habib Ltd.

Results for the year ending June 30 are due to be announced in the coming weeks.

Dealers said volume is likely to improve after the expected reintroduction of margin buying.

The Karachi Stock Exchange authorities and the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) met this month to discuss the reintroduction of margin buying and the KSE sentits recommendations to the SECP on Friday.

Transit pact with Afghanistan not to benefit India: Amin

LAHORE: Federal Minister for Trade Makhdoom Amin Fahim Monday clarified that agreement on Transit Trade has been made with Afghanistan, therefore, India is not going to get any benefit out of it.

Talking to mediamen at Lahore airport, the Minister said under the agreement goods will be transported to India from Afghanistan via Pakistan land route, ruling out any possibility of the vice versa.

He said Pakistan is completely independent to enter into any trade agreement with the neighboring countries and added that such accords are in the interest of Pakistan, denying any pressure from the US in this regard.

Amin Fahim said providing European and Asian countries access to Afghan markets will not affect China. Talks are underway to hammer out a similar understanding with India, he added.

India should resolve issues through dialogue: PM

QUETTA: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani Monday called for a composite dialogue between Pakistan and India to resolve disputes including Jammu and Kashmir, water and terrorism issues.

Addressing here at the Command and Staff College on conclusion of Staff College Course 2009-10 and later responding to questions raised by military officers he said, “Pakistan seeks negotiated and peaceful resolution of all disputes with India.”

He maintained that Indian leadership has also agreed to initiate composite dialogue on all controversial issues between the two countries.

“Pakistan wants peaceful relations with the neighboring countries including Afghanistan, Iran and India. India should sit with us to initiate dialogue to resolve all important issues including Jammu and Kashmir, water dispute and terrorism,” Gilani said.

He said that Pakistan expects the US to adopt non-discrimination in civil nuclear deal with Islamabad.

“We have concluded dialogue with the US government on strategic issues,” he said adding Pakistan values long term strategic relations with the US.

He mentioned that Pakistan China bilateral relations were strong and would continue to grow.

The Hollywood star spoke with hospitalized Haitian survivors in the neighboring Dominican Republic on Monday.

UNHCR spokesman Andrej Mahecic said Jolie would travel to Haiti later Tuesday.

He provided no details of her planned itinerary for security reasons.

LAHORE, Pakistan News: The hearing of NAB reference against PPP secretary general Jahangir Badar in an Accountability court here adjourned for January 13.

Talking to media after appearing before the court on Wednesday Jahangir Badar said he has been charged of awarding jobs to people in Sui Gas Company where the wages doesn’t extend than Rs 500.

He dispelled the impression that the National Reconciliation Ordinance has benefited People’s Party. “People’s Party will not use its power to impress justice,” PPP Secretary General added.

296d665b4chermen India Refuses to Accept 100 Indian FishermenKARACHI, Pakistan News: India has refused to receive 100 Indian fishermen imprisoned in Karachi jails for violation of Pakistani waters.

Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani had issued orders for release of the Indian fishermen as goodwill gesture to the neighboring country.

“All arrangements have been completed for the Indian fishermen, imprisoned in jails for three years, to travel to the border, “ Deputy Superintendent Malir Jail Shakir Shah said.

A non-government organization has arranged food and travel expenses for the fishermen.

Around 668 Indian fishermen were imprisoned in Sindh jails while nearly 700 Pakistani fishermen have been in Indian jails.

The matter of imprisoned fishermen was put on back burner after the Mumbai attacks. Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has issued orders for release of 100 fishermen as goodwill gesture to neighboring India.
