ISLAMABAD, trendpk: Federal Interior Minister Rehman A Malik took notice of alleged corruption worth millions of rupees in Wapda.

Lahore: IJT students protest turn nasty

A protest demonstration held by scores of Islami Jamiat Tulaba students and teachers turned nasty when some of the students barged into the Punjab Assembly premises, News Trends reported Wednesday.

The protest was staged at the Mall Road against the setting up of Board of Governors at all the institutes with the students calling upon the high-ups to save their study year.

When sensed the indifferent attitude of the officials concerned, the students marched onto the PA and damaged the walk through gate.
However, the charged students could not make into the main hall for heavy contingents of police baton-charged them and made them move to The Mall. The students then vent their ire on the vehicles parked over there and torched two of them.

Islamabad: SC orders closure of fast food outlet at F-9 Park

Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered immediate closure and auction of a fast food outlet illegally built at a recreational park in Islamabad within two months.
During the hearing of contempt of court case against Kamran Lashari, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry asked that Why has the F-9 Parks land, grabbed by a fast food chain, given back to CDA despite the court orders?
The CJ observed that no compromise can be made on the court directives. Justice Ramday held that non-implementation of court orders is always covered by hanky-panky by the officials concerned. The SC however directed immediate transfer of the said disputed land to Capital Development Authority (CDA) besides its auction at the earliest. The apex court also ordered submission of court orders implementation report in the court. The case has been deferred sine die.

Pilgrims face troubles in Saudi Arabia

KARACHI: Several pilgrims from Pakistan are facing troubles at their residences provided by the government, SAMAA learnt Thursday.

According to the details, pilgrims went through government’s scheme are in trouble where the elevator of a seven storey building is not working therefore aged Pakistanis are facing problems.

SAMAA learnt that 1,000 people are living in a building while its capacity is just for 4,00 people. This situation has compelled them to remain in difficult situation.

Pakistani pilgrims, residing in Pakistan House, complained that they paid whatever they had but the officials have not provided better facilities to them. They also complained that no official is serious to resolve their issues. SAMAA

MQM all set to take out rally for Dr. Aafia’s release amid stern security

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) is all set to take out a grand rally for the release of Dr. Afia amid very stern security arrangements by Sindh Police on Tuesday.

Police have finalized security arrangements for the rally, which can start any moment in the second half in Karachi.

According to police sources, more than 2,500 policemen and dozens of other high officials with a large fleet of police mobiles have been placed at different places of the rally’s route.

Among the officials who have been assigned rally security duty are 12 SHO’s of Saddar Town and eight DSPs. More than 36 police mobiles will move along with the rally.

As per the security plan, the Bomb Disposal Squad sealed the whole area at 1:00pm after a thorough search.

Govt. not to appoint NRO beneficiaries on key posts

ISLAMABAD: Government on Saturday has decided to not appoint the officials who benefited from National Reconciliation Order (NRO), on key posts.

Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has directed Establishment Division to furnish urgently a complete list of all those NRO beneficiaries who are presently appointed on various government positions.

The decision was taken in reflection of the situation created after the appointment of Adnan Khwaja as Chairman OGDCL.

PM Gilani had to take back the notification of Adnan Khwaja’s appointment after Supreme Court’s suo motto notice.

According to sources, this decision was taken after the federal ministers argued on this issue yesterday in a meeting at Presidential House. SAMAA

Outflow from Warsak dam reaches 78,000 cusecs

PESHAWAR: The driving rains in the city are causing water level at Warsak Dam to rise gradually, putting the outflow at 78,000 cusecs, Geo News reported Saturday.

According to Warsak Dam officials, the spell of rains is in progress in upper areas and the areas abutting Afghan border, spurring the water level at the dam.

According to the Dam officials, at least 10,000 cusecs of water were added to dam water in last ten hours, after which six gates of the dam have been opened to let out the water.

The other three gates are being repaired at present.

According to the officials, the dam has the capacity to discharge at least 540,000 cusecs.

Pakistan, US officials review defence cooperation

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani and the United States defence officials met from June 7-10 at Pakistan”s Joint Staff Headquarters in Rawalpindi to discuss issues of common interest under the rubric of the strategic dialogue process.

The defence-working group, known as an Exchange on Defence Planning, was the first sectoral working group within the framework of the strategic dialogue since the Ministerial level U.S.-Pakistan strategic dialogue meeting held in Washington, D.C., in March this year.

The Pakistan side was led by Lt. Gen. Athar Ali (retd), Pakistan”s Secretary of Defence, and the US side was co-chaired by Mr. David Ochmanek, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defence for Force Development; and Mr. David Sedney, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defence for Afghanistan, Pakistan and Central Asia.

Both sides were assisted by officers from relevant departments and ministries, says a press release issued by the US Embassy here on Thursday.

Both sides discussed and reviewed cooperation in Defence relations, focused on the mutual challenges associated with multi-year cooperation between Pakistan and the US, and reviewed mechanisms for prioritizing and integrating security and defence capability requirements.

They also exchanged views on security cooperation and areas of potential future cooperation between the two sides.

The US delegation praised Pakistan”s efforts in addressing the threat of violent extremism and recognized the courage and extraordinary sacrifices made by Pakistan”s military, law enforcement agencies and the public in the fight against violent extremism.

The Pakistani side also expressed appreciation for the US support and assistance provided to Pakistan”s security forces in the fight against extremism.

The talks were held in a cordial and friendly atmosphere and both parties agreed to meet again in a follow-on exchange of defence planning.

Age limit for government jobs; decision today

ISLAMABAD: Senate Committee on Cabinet will take up the matter of age limit for government jobs in today”s (Friday) meeting. Senator Ghulam Ali of the JUI-F moved a resolution in Senate on May 17 and supported by opposition benches. In resolution it was ask that the age limit for government jobs should be increased to 35 years. Pakistan Muslim League-N, PML-Q, JUI-F, PKMAP and the JI supported this resolution but the government opposed the resolution.

The Chairman Senate sent the resolution to the cabinet committee and asked for a report on it. Cabinet committee called the officials of Establishment Division in today”s meeting to get their legal views on this issue.
