Dadu: Manchar Lake touches danger point
The water level at Manchar Lake in Dadu district reached danger point on Sunday.
According to sources, water level increased by 17 feet during the last 24-hours. The irrigation authorities opened all spillway gates of the reservoir to ensure that the lake does not overflow and inundate adjoining villages, and areas of Sehwan and Bhan Saeed Abad.
On the other hand the Pak Army is trying to reinforce the FC protective embankment. A discharge of 20,000 cusecs of water was recorded at the lake.

ISLAMABAD: Chief of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), Maulana Fazl-ur-Rahman, called on President Asif Ali Zardari at Aiwan-e-Sadr on Thursday.
The devastation caused by the unprecedented flood in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, relief and rehabilitation efforts, coalition matters and overall political situation came under discussion during the meeting.
The meeting took place over an Iftar-cum-dinner hosted by the President in honour of Maulana Fazl-ur-Rahman.
Speaking on the occasion, Rehman said that his party was extending all possible help for the flood-ravaged people. SAMAA

SWAT: Shah-e-Roon doesn’t have the energy, money or support from government to help Madyan recover from floods that decimated the small town nearly a month ago.
He has been walking for two days with a 20-kg (44 lb) sack of wheat on his back. Food shortages caused by the disaster have sent prices soaring and the only market he can afford is many kilometers away.
“How can I think about rebuilding? I have no way of making money and I am just too tired,” said the 50-year-old farmer.
Madyan, in the northwest Swat valley, looks more like an earthquake zone than a flood-stricken area.
Four-story hotels that fueled the local economy vanished. Buildings have been flattened, with cars sandwiched between slabs of concrete. Roads were dragged down and all that’s left behind are 30-meter (100-foot) dirt cliffs crumbling into a river.

KARACHI: The Meteorological Department has forecast dry and hot weather for most parts of the country over the next 24 hours, said sources on Saturday.
Rain with lightning is predicted for lower Sindh.
According to Met office, the monsoon spell will halt for the next few days; no rain is expected in flood-hit areas.
On the other hand, the spell is expected to continue in southeast Punjab, Gilgit Baltistan and Kashmir. SAMAA

Pak-Afg transit trade deal challenged in LHC
LAHORE: The transit trade agreement, reached between Pakistan and Afghanistan, has been challenged in Lahore High Court (LHC) on Saturday morning, Geo news reported.
In a plea, the petitioner requested the honorable court to declare the agreement void being contradictory to constitution of Pakistan.
Former President Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA), Advocate Shafqat Mehmood Chauhan filed petition, challenging the outcomes of Pak-Afg transit trade pact, saying that the pact will promote likelihood of smuggling of poppy and arms from Afghanistan.
“It will also surge opportunities of terror activities in Pakistan, seeing the fragile security arrangements being adopted by both governments at border and will make it possible for terror-triggering elements to easily pour from Afghanistan into Pakistan, the petition said.
Many kinds of prohibited and banned goods from India could be smuggled into Pakistan en-route Afghanistan if the agreement gets go ahead signal, which would cause negative impact on local industry, the petition stated.
The petitioner said that the deal would ultimately wreck havoc with already reeling economy of Pakistan.
Two electrocuted as high voltage wires fall in Lahore
LAHORE: Two people have been killed and several others wounded when high tension wires fell in Gulshan-e-Ravi area of Lahore.
According to reports, the wires of main supply line of 11,000 KW fell at thickly populated area in Gulshan-e-Ravi. Eyewitnesses said four people electrocuted in the incident and several others injured. The bodies and wounded rushed to hospital.
On the other hand, people staged protest against the incident and brunt tyres at Band road.
85 arrested in Nowshera, Charsadda search operation
NOWSHERA: Eighty-five militants arrested and six houses of militants destroyed during security forces operation in different localities of Nowshera and Charsadda.
Police sources said joint search operation of security forces, FC and Police is underway in Badarshi and Kaka Sahib areas of Nowshera in which 70 suspected militants have been arrested whereas six houses of militants including the house of outlawed outfit Tahreek-e-Taliban Nowshera ameer Qari Kamran.
On the other hand, 15 suspected persons arrested during search operation in North Hasht Nagar area in Charsadda.
Four militants killed in Swat
SWAT: Four militants were killed during security forces operation in different areas of Swat.
According to official sources, four militants were killed during exchange of fire between security forces and militants in Miandam area in tehsil Khawazakhela. Forces also recovered rifles, grenades and knives from their possession.
On the other hand, security forces in Peochar area in tehsil Matta killed a militant whereas unknown gunmen shot dead two persons in tehsil Kabal.
Orakzai:15 militants killed in clash with security forces
Some 15 militants were killed in a clash with the security forces during the ongoing military offensive in Orakzai Agency on Saturday. Sources said that the militants attacked the forces in Samdarra, Dabori injuring two army personnel. The forces repulsed the attack and 15 miscreants and destroyed three of their hideouts.
The forces operation is on in the adjoining areas.
