LAHORE: Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Aslam Tareen has said in a press conference on Thursday that the application had been sent for deployment of army and rangers during Muharram-ul-Haram.
The army and rangers will perform their duties from 7th of Muharram, he added.
The CCPO Lahore told media that police is asked to report about the sensitive areas in five days. The use of metal detectors and closed-circuit television cameras will be ensured, he said.
Tareen said that strict action would be taken against the loud speaker users during Muharram-ul-Haram. Trend Pk

Pak Army makes relief ramps, distributes cooked food

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan army troops have established four relief camps at Naseerabad and are providing cooked food and medical treatment to marooned people.
According to an ISPR press release, Pakistan army has sent 180 tons of ration, 5,800 tents, medicines worth Rs. 2 million and 26 tons of water to the flood affected areas of Naseerabad.
A total of 536 tons of relief items have been dispatched so far from Karachi to Sukkur, Kashmore, Jacobabad and Shikarpur.
At Rahim Yar Khan, over 2,000 flood affectees are being provided with cooked food and fodder to 2,150 livestock.
A total of 470 tons of relief items worth Rs. 17.5 million have been sent to southern Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, KP and Gilgit-Baltistan from Lahore.

One killed, one hurt in Karachi violence

KARACHI: After a day of bloody unrest which killed 14 people, Karachi witnessed a relative period of lull on Friday.
According to reports, apart from a few isolated incidents, the law and order situation remained normal throughout the day.
Asif, 25, was shot dead by unknown assailants near Metro Cinema in Orangi Town. The deceased’s body was brought to Qatar Hospital.
In another incident, 35-year-old Imran sustained bullet wounds on Mauripur Road.
Unknown men set a car on fire near Askari Park in the limits of PIB Colony Police Station.
Later, police claimed they arrested the man who torched the car.
According to police authorities, security was heightened in the sensitive areas of Gulistan-e-Johar, Landhi, Qaidabad and Baldia Town. SAMAA
Mirza orders stern security for mosques, imambargahs
KARACHI: Sindh Home Minister Dr Zulfiqar Ali Mirza has directed the law enforcement agencies to ensure extraordinary security measures at mosques and imambargahs in the month of Rajab and the celebrations of Hazarat Ali(RA)’s birthday.
According to statement issued by interior ministry Sindh, Mirza ordered Special Branch of the Crime Investigation Department (CID) and intelligence agencies to ensure better coordination.
He instructed the police to take stringent measures, especially in the sensitive areas, and beef up security during celebratory gatherings of Hazrat Ali (RA)’s birthday.
Mirza ordered extraordinary security at foreign embassies and consulates, worship places, airports, railways stations, bus stops, hotels, fast food outlets, markets, government offices and other sensitive installations.
He directed the law enforcement agencies to implement the ban on display of weapons, provocative wall chalking, and distribution of material inciting hatred.

Rangers, scouts deployed sensitive areas of Gilgit-Baltistan
GILGIT-BALTISTAN Pakistan news: The rangers along with Northern area scouts will be deployed at the sensitive polling stations for November 12 elections in Gilgit-Baltistan, said Chief Election Commissioner for Gilgit-Baltistan Rahim Nawaz Durrani Monday.
Durrani said that polling will start from 8:00 am and will continue till 4:00 pm. While talking to press conference in Gilgit, he said that 95 candidates of 10 political parties are participating in the elections for 23 constituencies. Besides this, 168 independent candidates are also participating in the elections. The election campaign will end tomorrow (Tuesday) night at 12:00 am.
